Hey, I really like this one! I don't think it is too dark at all, but that may be my MAC monitor. Images are usually lighter on a Mac. Anyway, this one really grabs me. Great job!

wow kevin, you've gotten so much better since I was last around!

I wonder if that jet would catch some light from a secondary source. I like the rim light job but theres no depth to that shadow. I like the camo pattern but considering the lighting I dunno if you would see all of it.

Did you see if you could find a ref of a jet in a similar setting?

Well, the weather is finally turning nice, so I treated myself to some watercolors and decided to learn something new. I'll try and take some pics of my WC's soon, but in the mean time, here is some new digi stuff.

20-30 minutes on each, about 1.5 hours at the mountainy, firey place.

Here is some more stuff. Some from my head, some from photos, several from life. I have starting taking my tablet pc to life drawing at least once a week. I get lots of dirty looks, but I don't give a Blam!

I bought the pocket and the big moleskin sketchbooks, and the watercolor one as well. I have been trying to do allot more drawing, using pencils, pens, markers, watercolor, etc. I'll post those soon.

I've been slangin all kinds of oil, WC, and acrylic (blah) around the basement too.

THe work your doing is showing in the progress of your work, and to think you only started art so recently. You definatley have a way with the ladies the studies are impressive , and your designs/ compositions are improving. I like the ones with the stronger dark shapes. Keep it comming.

I did the "lens flare" with the airbrush, smudge tool, and overlay and dodge layers. No cliche PS filters involved! Don't just look...... Leave a post!

Very impressive work, Sir! It's come a long ways since you started. I'm such a novice myself that I'd only be a fool trying to give you criticism. Overall, it looks very strong. A lot of your sci-fi stuff suggests that you're really finding your style. I think it comes off well. If I had to give a tip, I would say keep working with reference when you can (as you have been).

After reviewing some of my past figure studies, I decided to hell with the time limit, I need a higher level of finish. This one was about 2.5 - 3 hours from SG photo ref.

I did color pick a few times, but I choose the color I think first, then see how far off I am. After 3 hours of this you start getting pretty damn good. No tracing, overlaying, etc was used, I just flipped allot and tried to nail the drawing.

do long poses....three to twelve hours...over days if you can. if you cant get a model you can get a plaster cast (see mindcandymans thread for a nice cast drawing example). You can also do self portraits. You need time to just draw...to see...and to learn to quickly understand what you see.

WHY NOT! Maybe you could switch from time to time. Wíth time limit (<1 hour), than studies of at least 3 hours?

Vigilandus Great quote, thankyou! I spoke with Jason Manley at Revelations, and he encouraged me to come home every day from my shitty graphic design job, and put pencil to paper. I have almost 3 sketchbooks since then I need to scan and post.

Some of the better renderings are ones where you feel more confident. If the brushwork feels very guessed and messy it doesnt pack a nice initial impression - I would say the 1st and 3rd image in http://conceptart.org/forums/showpos...0&postcount=74 triggered that observation. Think where the forms are going, and use your brush strokes to support that - it will feel more naturally captured. I shall return again

Here is yesterdays life drawing session done in Painter X. One of the better ones from life I have done yet, I think. Pencil and watercolor were done in the first half hour, then she put her robe over the chair.
