    ThaHellion's Finished Artwork

ThaHellion Hellion (trying to see if this will allow me to find it in the search)

    "ThaHellion's Triptic"

anyway... this is a triptic [spelling?] i did for a school competition... there are three images: Dreams, Memory, and Reality

i actually came up with a small description for each of them because a friend wanted me to...

    Dreams:
His eyes are sewn shut, showing his seclusion from the world. His own mind scares him. This fear he has built up inside has caused him to shed tears of blood. His lips are removed, preventing him from the slightest interaction with the rest of the world. His minds eye is open, his thoughts are ever active. His world is crumbling around him, and he no longer comprehends what is real and what is delusion. He is lost within himself, losing grip on reality.

    Memory:
His eyes grow dim with delusions of happiness. He keeps secrets inside that tear him apart. He has tears of blood showing the unbalanced nature of his suppression. There is a lock on his mind preventing any chance of infiltration. He eventually suppresses so many secrets that his mind can no longer hold them; he opens his mouth and lets all come out. The world now opens their eyes to this and realized what has been circulating his mind, but it is now far too late.

    Reality:
He keeps one eye open to the world. The other eye shows how dead he feels inside. The hooks keep his mouth formed to resemble something of a smile, but it is not his smile. He has seen things that he should not have seen. He knows what really happens under society’s false cover; this knowledge of reality while everyone else remains ignorant drives him insane. His mind can’t take the delusion of happiness any longer.

you got some good sf=tuff here man,
your textures on the first ones are particularly eye catching.

i think you still need some practice on your digital rendering, your textures on the chars are coming out too flat - but your getting there, practice , practice!

only neg crit is that the eagle and Eastwood look like paint-overs- are they? nothing wrong with practicing on pics and with pics.

the eagle was definitely just a quick sketch painting, but i think i may have done squares over the original picture on clint eastwood to lay out where everything goes and then i went on the normal way.. you can tell by looking at his nose... if it was a paint over it wouldnt look so broken :/

thanks for the critique... i hope for more, but this topic just isnt catching anyones eye

the first three are definitely the strongest.
but the first two have almost too much texture in my opinion.
especially so for the second one, there's so much it detracts from the concept.
the third is more visually appealing i think because the texture isn't too heavy and the composition is more interesting than the others.
that style seems to work well for you though.

    dude -

if you had stopped with the first two painting I would have loved this post. There look like some kind ancient roman mosaics dug up from some cult of demon worshippers in Pompei or something. They are nice

Then I saw the rest of your stuff and realized what I originally took for style was more likely a skills issue.

Lesson number 1 you will always be judged by the weakest and worst part of what you show to people.

Better to show less than more.

Unless of course you rock the world or are looking for crits.

Thanks for the compliment and the comments. I kept going with more because the first three didn't seem to get any comments. I figured if I threw in some older work someone might say something.

I will definitely take your suggestions to mind. I might go through and remove a couple pictures now. Especially the shitty demon with fire. Although, I do like my monkey skull and Bob Dylan pieces.

Here is something that didn't take me long to accomplish overall, but I have been working on it on and off for about a week. I have put in a half hour ever so many days. I think it turned out pretty good, mostly because I tried using a somewhat custom brush that I made (normal brush, but has tweaked qualities) and I will probably use this brush from now on.

Here is a drawing I did throughout the day at school a few days back while trying to avoid listening to a single thing any of my professors had to say. So I guess I spent a total of two-three hours on it. It is done using a No 2 pencil and a bic mechanical pencil. I put it in my sketchbook because it is technically a sketch, but I think this deserves the recognition of a finished piece.

The memory image is very good. Those lost in memory do have dim eyes.

You are overwhelmingly more strong in your pencil works than you are your digital/colour works. So I want to know why you don't show that skill and detail you have in pencil anywhere else beside in pencil?
Still trying to think of a clever saying.

^You make a very valid point. I have recently somewhat noticed this and that is where I went with the demon skull rendering, but I just haven't gotten around to doing more pictures with detail like that or simply coloring the demon head tattoo. With college and work it makes for limited free time to focus on artwork. Not only that but I worsened the situation by getting a PS3 and I just want to play it lately. I thank you for your observation of my artwork as a whole. I like it when I get critiques on single pictures because it lets you know what to focus on in certain styles of pictures, but people rarely critique your overall style of artwork.

Yay for updates on old shitty pictures. I thought it would look cooler as a glass monkey skull.

Not the most elaborate thing I have ever done. This was a design done for a friend and he really wanted it just like this. For a better description click on the link.

First piece - very cool, nice hot & cold. This piece could benefit from subtle separation in foreground and background. It's where you lighten/darken parts of both head and background right where they meet. Adding a dark shoulder on one side will ground it. Powerful!
