I guess I should enter a little introductory blurb, eh? >_> I'm currently a junior at the Los Angeles County High School for the Arts, aka LACHSA. I'm planning on attending Art Center to major in Illustration. This thread was created at the behest of a few friends who're also floating around on CA. Mmm... Here's some other images I found floating around on my computer. I hope you enjoy, and thanks for looking at my work.

I like your animal studies, especially the fish that look like lizards keep up the good work.
Wow, some really nice stuff you got here! Fantastic colors in the portraits, I especially like this one. But the one underneath it is just amazing with all the detail you put into it. Really great.

Hehe thanks a lot for the kind comments. : ) I think that one's my favorite out of the portraits too. I was trying to give a narrative feel to each one.

Cool stuff, especially like the woman in the yellow top and the bull in the last post (has some great energy to it), the only crit i would make is with your creature design (first image) it's a little hard to read.
Mm is it the antlers and the mouth area that are hard to read? After working on the same piece for a while it's a bit hard to point out the weak spots to myself heh. The images I've posted are downsized a bit so that it's easier to see each piece as a whole, so that may be why it seems a bit off, but I could be wrong. : s
Hehe, and the girl in the yellow sweatshirt is a very close friend of mine who I've known since kindergarten. I'm glad you like itI remember a day in middle school when she had gotten into an argument with another student and in this piece I tried to convey her irked mood.

*Wow* ...awesome. I really like your life drawings too - they're all wonderful. This one's really strong. Very solid, confident lines and a rather jazzy style to boot, hehe.
Man, you're younger than me too.....![]()

for your age your amazing dude. keep it up!
hello,
firstly this is wonderful-http://pics.livejournal.com/thelovepumpkin/pic/0003k540/s640x480
the subtle shading looks great.
Plus, I think its great your able to do life drawing also, the charcoal draw's look the best imo.
One of the problems I see with your graphite stuff are the values.
One technique that may help you is laying down a graphite "wash", essentially covering the whole thing lightly with graphite and smudge it with a piece of paper or tissue, then increasing the value range in dark spots etc, then using a kneaded eraser pulling back the highlights.
Have a look at Ted's sketchbook to see what I mean, it creates some whimsical soft drawing's and may adress your value problem( you need a fuller range of values)

real impressive stuff![]()
Haha oops, it's been a while since I've checked back. Thank you for all of your comments.
Alex - I haven't tried that method before, but I'll try to keep it in mind the next time I do a pencil drawing. I usually don't use an eraser, but I'm beginning to see that I should explore it a bit.
At the moment I'm tied up making my first plushie. It's my first time using a needle or making anything 3d for that matter, so it's taking me a bit to learn from my (plentiful) mistakes. I'll try to post an update when I've finished. Again, thanks for the comments! : )

Really nice work. I especially like the girl in the green dress and cropped portrait of the guy.
I think some of the figure drawings seem a little over worked (the ones where the model kept moving) but over all very strong.
Are your color portraits color pencil? You have a very good sense of color in skin tone.
nice sketchbook so far. the life studies are very good.
Keep it up.
Yup, the portraits are done with prismacolor pencils. I've been a bit busy lately but hopefully I'll get an update up soon.

This is excellent work for high school! Tell us more about your high school program, please, or is it you who are doing the research and teaching yourself traditional skills?
This is some powerful stuff. I love the elephant/human one.
If you're interested into getting into Art Center, you'll do great.
