Another one along with the original ballpoint pen sketch I did on the bus to work. I'm not completely happy with the new aspect ratio although it did do good things to the bottom of the picture. This was kind of an experiment to try an unusually tall and narrow frame...

Hi I'm new to the board and just finding pen and ink thus far I love it.
Done with G #180 nib and Speeball C6 nib Higgins ink.
I have a lot to learn yet but am enjoying the journey.

    Love the works here

Love inks! Hadn´t seen this thread before.

    Nice work here.

CamiloDragon... may I ask: how did you do all those branches and veins? They look very natural, doesn´t seem like you´ve drawn them one by one.

I'm constantly struck by the moodiness of pen and ink work. I'm not sure if that's the fault of starkness inherent to the medium, or the natural proclivities of those who are attracted to the medium, or both. Still, being one who has been working in ink (tech pen) almost exclusively for the past several years, I guess I'm prone to such moodiness, myself.

    First, some from my past...

Here's my two best ink pieces and a little vignette. These also appear on my "finally finished" thread, so apologies to anyone who has already seen these on that thread.

Really nice work in this thread. Must break out the nibs soon.
Had to comment on a few:
    bustermaximus
Nice variety of work. The profile head study is sweet. Lovely style.
    kev
Just awesome pen work! I was looking for your work here. That second image esp. mesmerizing.........Like drinking ice cold water on a hot, dry day.
    chaosrocks
You get so much depth with that brown ink. Do more!
    lefran
Cool graphic style. Love to see negative space explored.
    patzdon
Cool start. That 1st image reads with just contrast. Nice.
    FactorZero
Recognize your style anywhere. Keep 'em coming.
    Ostrander
Powerful! Shades of Bernie Wrightson. Nice bold style you have. Is that to say it was done in Painter?! Awesome.

which brings up an intersting question... if its done in painter... is it really ink?
to me part of the wonder and joy of ink drawings is th inability to change or move a line one placed. I think it makes the work much more deliberate.
not to questionthe quality of your guy there Glen but....

AztcFireFlower- Thanks! Yep, done in painter with the scratchboard tool in under an hour without any underlying pencil work.
Chaosrocks- I understand what you're saying. And it poses a good argument. To me it's a means to an end, whether done traditionally (like pics 1-2) or digitally (like pic 3-4).
I break out the real brushes and quills from time to time. But if the end result I'm after can be achieved in half the time and of equal quality of traditional materials, then why not do it in digital?

I just can't stay away from this thread. Such beautiful work. Lefran, aztc, thanks for the kind comments. Lefran, you do some incredible work.

The moose I drew about a year and a half ago, probably the last piece I spent more than a dozen hours on. The other one was drawn as a Christmas gift last winter.

Wow! Just the thread I was looking for! ^^

I'm a true ink lover and it's so wonderful to see that I'm not the only one.
Been doing stuff with pen, no brush yet. But I've been thinking about getting some old school Chinese ink and tools. Hope to see this thread expanding!

    Cheers!

I went out a got some ink and a quill yesterday, sat down made a quick composition and tried it out, inks are really fun to do, can't wait to make some more. So here's my first ink ever. Reference from Bridgman's books and an old master horse sketch.

I just recently realized how much I love ink and dip pens, glad I found this thread.

thought I would add something, this is a cropped version of a jellyfish drawing, I have the full version somewhere in my sketchbook. I will properly scan this one day...
