Mr Delicous Well it just didn't look like me in the first one. Too smaller nose and wrong shaped mouth.

M0uS3r I wouldn't say I worked particularly hard I just try to get at least one update a day.

Alice Thanks for the good crit. I'll try out that line weight technique and yeah, I think more rough figures is what I need to help implement my studies into my regular drawings. I spose I need to get over my fear of not finishing drawings lol.

Anyway, Today I started my Art GCSE course in school and our first topic is organic stuff, so basically, to get good marks I just need to produce a lot of life drawings of plants, which is good stuff. So today here is some stuff I did in lessons.

An unfinished close up of a holly branch.

    Some weird shiny seed pod.

    A shell.

All from life. Cheers guys for all the support and encouragement I feel like I can see a difference in the quality of my work since I started this sketchbook which is nice.

Some more GCSE stuff. Only one period of art today. Not nearly enough time to get a decent composition or finish anything so heres an early W.I.P.

Hey man. You're headed in the right direction. I envy anybody younger than me who can draw like this (I'm 16). Good stuff.

I would suggest doing more studies (I'm so hypocritical. ) and experimenting with more media. Charcoal and Pastels can be fun. Also, instead of thinking of an eraser as an eraser, think of it as another drawing tool. Shape the form with it (in other words, add highlights with your eraser). It will give it another layer of value and therefore, even more depth.

Great stuff though, you should be excited about where you're going.

K some more stuff from last night and my art classes today.

1st is a rather camp looking piece of line art I might colour, I like it because I think the anatomy is pretty correct.

2nd is an apple. Pretty obvious that one

3rd is an unfinished section of a plant

I did another piece in a fine liner pen, which wasn't like Biro because well you can only get black out of it. it was horrible so I left it out.

Something is going on with the stomach/waist area. I feel like the 6-pack is turned too far towards the camera as compared with the hips, or maybe there needs to be more indication of the bend of the spine in the stomach area.

The anatomy all seems to be in proportion and in the right place, but not 'torqued' correctly, if you know what I mean.

    Thumbs up

You're coming along really well. My advice to anyone starting out and looking to quickly improve their skills, is to get into a life drawing class, or find a college or something near you that has open Life Drawing sessions during the week. You'll find that drawing from observation will quickly improve your rendering of anatomy, weight, light, etc. Keep drawing bro.

Nice shading work in those pencils. I know the one said "upper body anatomy practice" but the leg/foot placement made him unbalanced and were a little disproportionate. Keep doing the good work!

Bijutsu-san Yeah that last piece is a bit funny but I wont bother lingering on it. Thanks for the crit man.

    Evxyza92Thanks man.

Zacharias Milariasyer I like the sound of eraser technique. Thanks for the crits man and don't let the age thing bother you. 16 isnt that much older.

Kreegz85 Yeah I'd love to go to a life drawing class and I'm sure my mum would take me (shes quite artistic) but I'm just not so sure whether she'd be so comfortable with the nude models just becuase of my age so I guess I'll probably just have to wait till I'm older. Oh well, I'll still be posting on this site in a few years if I can help it.

kooon well I update daily so you won't have to wait long.

silvestri99 yer that figure is a little messed up. Dile was saying to me on msn its becuase I'm right handed all my figures slant so I'll have to work on that.

Anyway so its not a post without art here is a rubbishy environement.

    really really muddy.

Something bothers me about the proportions in this image. He has a ridiculous upper body. Still the anatomy is pretty good and I liked the form in his chest.

    comment/crit away.

The problem is that his legs are way too ridiculously short in contrast to his upper body. The thighs should be almost as long as the upper body itself, as most of the height of the body is made up of the legs. Also, his legs look like they're attached to each other way past the pelvis, like an A. And for some reason, his right leg is bent near the top. Another problem I noticed was that his far left leg is longer than his right leg, which is closest to you. Even though it's bent back, it's still a lot closer to you than the far leg, so it should be shortened to a little more than half right leg's length.

I suggest you get a book on anatomy and just practice drawing the pictures in it (a good one if you're looking for comic anatomy is "How to draw cutting edge comics", has a very good guide on the anatomy of both male and female figures"). Right now, the anatomy is pretty accurate and all (except for the pelvis and legs), but it's not exactly interesting either. Especially study the arms, as that's where you're having the most trouble with now, they either look to thin at some points, or just awkward all over. And practice foreshortening. It helps make your pictures a hell of a lot more interesting.

you jave drawn a lot and it looks good but in the last few it seems like you were rushing, I mean look at the shading on that last guys pants/feet, I mean you can do so much better just step up to plate and go full out on one picture, and amaze yourself mate
Ill see you around and sorry that the im thing isnt working out , just keep trying and we will get a good convo in

But ya great work overall your dedication is inspiring keep it up !

Mr Delicious Cheers man. I think I didn't use a hard enough brush on the BW. I'm gonna have to do some more.

Lionsword Now thats a proper crit. Really appreciate it man I think I'm gonna buy a Hogarth book of Amazon rather than one designed for comics. I figure I'm better off learning anatomy traditionally before I stylise it. But still thanks for the effort I w't go back and correct the drawing cos I prefer just to move on but its nie to be told where I went wrong. I need to work on my arms and hips really. Cheers.

Jedininjaman Yer I really should go all out on more pics but I mean I find that if I spend too long woking on a drawing and rendering it prperly if the anatomy was wrong or something basic like that it kinda makes the piece a bit of a waste of time. I want to get a balance between fully rendering pieces for practice and also getting god at quick gestural sketches which I fins it easier to implement things I have learnt in studies too. When I get too bogged down about making a picture really refined its harder to get good practice towards things like antatomy.

Anyway. I was at my cousins for the weekend for my grandads birthday and didnt really get all that much time to draw. However while watching the Matrix trilogy (for like the 11th time, I love those movies) I did this which is pretty cool so I'll post. Crit away...

Sup man, been meaning to drop by sooner. The guy with the gun a couple posts above reminded me of something. See the hesitant, hairy lines all up and down the sleeve? You gotta try and wean yourself of that. Try to lay down bold, confident lines, damn the torpedoes and all that. If you look at my stuff, you'll see I still have a little trouble with the hairy lines. ArtKitty gave me that same advice a long time ago.

Oh yea, sometimes you get no replies, sometimes you do.......it normally depends on the quality of the stuff you update with but most times we're all just too lazy to type

MyrridinThanks buddy. Yer the alonein my sketchbook is probably justfustrated ranting lol. thanks for the wow and yes, the pose isnt practical but it looks pretty cool lol. I need to start considering practicalty.

MrBobMarley Yeah the hairly lines are something I've wanted to stop doing for a long time. They have gotten better when I compre it to my older stuff, by that I mean older than this sketchbook. Around a year ago I suppose. It looks horrible now.

Here is a life drawin for Dile. I plan to more of these.

nice work, make sure when youre doing life drawings that you are attacking your weak points. Just drawing from life is good for practice but you wanna use your time as best you can so try and think about some stuff you really have trouble drawing and give that a shot. I like your recent black and white, looks good, theres anatomy problems but youre well on your way man. Very good for your age. Just study some more and try working from refs to gather some more knowledge.

Don't slow this pace! You got the right mentality, don't lose the fire!
