What more can someone say besides "dayum!!!"?
Yeah I know... not much of a commentsry for that
nice. what type of charcoal? also if you can share some of your process that would be awesome.
Great! No crits from me except the near edge of his right foot seems somehow too bulky. Still it could be just me and I trust you have it right and with the intructors in the Angel academy (assuming your still there) it can't be wrong.
Keep posting yor work. It's always great to see some atelier stuff although this kind of work only makes me wish that the summer was already over as I will be starting my own studies in Angel academy next september![]()
wow.. hard to believe thats done in charcoal.. its fantastic. im astonished. great work - JAG
it's only after you've lost everything, that you're free to do anything..
Great work Dorian. Something to be proud of.
Great work! Looks like a photo, very realistic.
Poor guy, had to sit 6 weeks....
Lovely stuff! I wanna see more.
wow! really nice life drawing!!! post some more!
amazing, looks so real
hi
looks great! can you share how many hours a day he sat for you or if it was every day or not ..
thanks
again great job!.
Beautiful work! Six weeks well spent!
Great job implying the hair on his legs.
Some detail shots would be awesome so I can see how you handled that.
That guys hot.
This drawing is n amzing display of high skills. Charcoal is so messy. I'm sure it's even more impressive in real life.
Awesome piece you have here! If anything, I would say the overall tone is a bit too light. you have a very good atmosphere setting here, if it can tone down a little bit will be excellent!

Great study of the human figure. Keep doing more of these!
Amazing use of charcoal. There's many many tones of gray here. Really Good!
Sorry for my bad english...
ℑch
Freaking amazing!
Mmmmmoooooooooooooorrrrrrrrrreeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee!!!! !!!!!!!
hey, that is a famtastic piece great work acctualy looks very much like a b/w PHOTOGRAPH thats how good it is only crits would be the deltoid(big round-ish muscle on edge of shoulder) is a little bit too long, should be bit shorter and the foot he has on the floor looks kinda half done because half is coloured half isnt- how ever if that is due to a specific lighting effect obviously not worth doing anything tobut other wise VERY VERY GOOD piece, asham i dont have patience for a 6 week piece lol.

Beautiful! You have a great feeling of form in this. He feels real and fleshy.![]()
Dorian, it's been a long time! I don't have anything to critique or anything, it's amazing, that's all.
Holy lensflare!![]()
5 STARS! So many comments!
thenass: *dayum* is good enough for methanks!
Lohan: it's vine charcoal, a french brand called "nitram" (http://fusainsnitram.com/ - wow that site looks pretty DIY)
Jazam: I agree it does look a bit weird.. Hey that's awesome! We need more ca.org people here!Enjoy the free time, you'll be drawing 24/7 once you're here! J/k
But a small tip that might get you through the bargues a lot faster: practise your drawing! (getting proportions right) That's the main slowing-down-factor and something you can start working on right now if you're not already anyway.
JAG: Thanks! Well, heh, not so hard to believe once your finger slipped and left a nasty smudge over the whole thing that takes a couple days to get rid of..
Craig D: thank you!
Troll Skelking: Thanks! Well he was fine, he can take a 5min break every 3 days you know
CgMonkey:www.dorian-iten.com!
But this one is the latest and probably best..
stalsby: thanks! there's some more here: http://www.conceptart.org/forums/sho...t=60494&page=2 and in my sketchbook here: http://www.conceptart.org/forums/sho...&goto=lastpost
biz20:
mirskov: he was sitting for 4 days a week, 3 hours a day with a 7min. break every 23 mins. I love math!Stuff in your sb looks good, keep it up!
Crawdad Jones: thanks! Very well spent, learned a ton!!
DSiLLustration: I took the pic with my cellphone, it's almost fine for this size but anything bigger is blurry.. I'll have someone take a pic with a real camera and put a close up of the leg up here for you.
I did some step by step shots I can put together into a tutorial kind of thing if there are some people who would find that interesting?
Jens: Jens! Hope we'll see each other in brussels this year! Thanks for taking the time and pointing the stuff out! Agree with everything.. He did have a bit weird feet but it's my job to make it look good/real unless it's something that really has character. Thank you!
Neneuche: Thanks! I can find out his number for you if you want?"charcoal is messy" - oh yes...
fookchai: I'll just pretend it's your differently calibrated monitor.![]()
Atlantis: Greatest compliment. Thank you.
...man. can believe how many comments there are! so cool!
patdzon: I will, thanks! (man I always try to figure out how I'm supposed to pronounce your name)
ICH: Grazie! Ci vediamo :]

PenDiablo: see reply to stalsby above :]
life on the sofa: apparently you also dont have pacience for punctuation but thats fine no problem really it's a good challenge in concentration but lets look at your crit well I see that foot bothers a couple people :] it was like this but I probably should've played it down I guess will do it next time his deltoid also was amazingly big/low and is probably about right but I see what you mean thank you! heh I actually like this
emily_g: thanks, that's very good to hear! Especialy from you hehe :]
Gamerhomie: heya! Well.. leaves me with nothing to say but "thank you!"
hmm.. how many people would like to see a handful progress pics? (low quality cellphone camera, too.. I should get a real cam..)

I would love to see work-in-progress shots! Man, I wish I could go to Italy to study at the Angel Academy, but I can't afford the housing costs. I'm thinking of going to the Academy of Realist Art in Toronto, instead, which used to be associated with Michael Angel.
What did you use for blending: stumps or tortillons?
Also, I know you guys have to keep your charcoal really sharp, but I find that when I use charcoal, the tip gets dull after about 10 seconds of use. Any tips? I just received some nitram charcoal that I ordered, but since each stick is like a dollar or two, I want to make it last.
very impressive Dorian5 stars to you
holy mother of god.

Dude.
I did tell you you were doing great, right?
dude... fucking impressive. You've developed so much..
I'll just hand it to you I guess. amazing.
Humbucker: hey there, let me see what I can do about the step by step thing, even though you seem to be the only one interested :] We use everything: brushes, stomps, sponges, pimped make-up tools.. experiment! I haven't found out what works best yet... Tools change with values, too - sponge is great for dark halftones, brush & point for lighter halftones, etc. - Yes we do sharpen them using "sandpads" - most people use those wooden kitchen boards you cut vegetables on -> stick sandpaper on it and you're ready to goAs far as how long they last: most people here prepare a couple, say 3 HB's and 2 H's, maybe 1-2 B's so they last one sitting. It also depends on what you're doing, for laying in big areas like a background with B, there's no need to sharpen the things. Let me know when you post whatever you're doing!
Wasker: wow! thanks man
Chuck, mate.: well same to you mate, diggin' your stuff!
John: YOU introduced me to bob hale! THANK YOU! I hope you'll be in brussels this year (I hope I will be, too) so I can kiss you!![]()
Tigermilk: thank you!
All right! Took a better picture! (still not perfect, but better..)
Here's a huge version of the thing, for those interested in seeing it more closely:
(it's 100% of what I got from my friend's cam, as big as I can give it to you)

very atmospheric! Great stuff. How big is the paper? Defintely do post the progress shots!
