    Rick's Sketchbook

Hey guys. I recently came across M@'s speedpainting vids and got super inspired. I did these in two days and im pretty happy with them. On a side note, I'm starting to really focus on anatomy and I've been drawing a lot from books and life- I'd like to get those up pretty soon. But I have supplied a cyborg type guy
Please, let me know what you think.
    Rick

Wow man. It looks like you have powered up a few levels in the past few months. I am really diggin the different ways that you are going about and focusing on composition and design. The speedpainting is really helping to get your ideas down too, and I like the unfinished look. Good stuff man, I am looking forward to seeing more.

Hey man, your colors and light/dark-situations look really good. You should train more on the human body though.
    Good work, keep it up!

Thanks guys for the warm welcome and your comments.

Hey, Biff, thanks for peekin'. I'm still getting used to it so I'll get some better stuff up soon Thanks again for giving me serious critique. It helped a ton.

Here's a handfull of the latest figure drawings I did. They're all from reference either the web or books. There's various problems with them but I'd like to show them as is, and then move on and hopefully learn from mistakes.

    Peace-

The first two are from photo reference painted in Painter. I love this program but theres something not clicking here...

The last two are in progress-taking a break for now. I gotta fix that chicks legs. She's severely twisted.

    Thanks for the look.

Here's some projects that have been taking up most of my time lately. First two are front and inside covers for a cd.

The third was painted to be stuck to a kick-drum for the same band- hence the circle. I'm thinking about painting in the sides at some time.

Here's the bands link if anyone cares- Traverser

I would like to know what you guys think of these. Feel free...

Small update... After seeing Bumskee's recent CHOW entries and all the other great artists over there, I've been trying to get into them- time permitting of course. Didn't quite make the deadline, but realized where my flaws lay in the process.

So, here's the WIP scavenger. I definately finishing this soon, just might need a little direction. Then, just a random girl-trying out a weird brush for this one.

I'm liking your stuff Rick-K. I especially like the brush you used for the women underneath the Scavenger WIP. It has a cool marker, sketchy look which I really like. I can see that studying anatomy has really improved your work. Keep posting.

Here's a speed I did. I hope I pulled off the sunset lighting well. Environments are tricky for me so I'm gonna do more.

The "Egyptian" girl is finished. Any thoughts?

wow some really aweseom anatomy studies! I really like the robot dud in your first post aswell.

the skin on the last one looks a little monotone though, im not sure if its just a matter of taste. Maybe try some ocmplimentary colours for your shadows and highlights.

Thanks Kyle. About the skintones: Maybe it's my monitor, because I did use subtle complimentary colors, but then again I'm still trying to get it right.

Anyone else think the color's bad, or not there at all?

Nice stuff Rick. I like the amount of experimentation you have going on here, its a good start. I especially like the scavenger wip, its one of your stronger pieces. You seem to attempt to keep everything in movement and dynamic The only thing I'd recommend is that you do some color study, your colors tend to be a little dull at this point. Keep it up dude!
