I'd love to get connected with some other Portland artists.

I'm in Portland as well. But I'm an old married guy with kids and rarely have time to get away and go to workshops and stuff. there have been a couple in seattle that looked like I would have loved to gone to.
but put me on the local list at least so you know there is someone out there.

I only live for today, but I'm one day behind.

Hey! I'm in Corvallis, but when time allows, I sometimes find myself in Portland on the first Saturday of every month. Why? Weeeeellll, it's the Illustrator Open that is a gathering of creatives (pros, students and the usual starvin' lot) at the Art Institute.
A few of those folks are also here, I believe. That may be a good place to start for a gatherin'.
Now, if only I could get this going in Corvallis, life would be puh-fect.
Hey fellow oregonians and P-town groupies. Good to see some locals here. Can't say I know any gatherings, besides the random artists that float around Saturday market.
Hey y'all! Alert! NEXT Saturday is the first Saturday of June; therefore, there will be a meetup of artist types (students, creative pros, starving artists), at the Art Institute of Portland in the Pearl District.
This is a monthly thang, btw. First Saturday of every month. And this coming meetup is rather important (as will be July's) as some of us are preparing for Comic-Con. And the meetup is for the Illustrators Open or Illop, as I like to call it.
The class where we meet is usually on the third floor - inquire at the front desk in the lobby. And you'll have to anyways as they want your signature before you can proceed (security measures and all that).
Hope to meet some local CA.org peeps!
oh wow theres people from portland now yay. so does that thing still happen every first saturday??
Yes.
Also, technically it should be happening again this coming October 6; however, not so sure on that as the HP Lovecraft Film Festival will be going on (beginning Friday, Oct. 5; running through Sunday). I'm planning on going, btw. Bernie Wrightson is going to be there!
(and I'm sorta bumping this up since the Seattle gig is coming up [January]/)
If some other people are going to this thing on the 6th, I can try and make it.

Nam - right after you posted this, I received an email regarding the upcoming Illustrators Open.
Here it tis:
The Open will be this Saturday from 1 - 4 pm at the Art Institute a block from Powell's in downtown Portland.
It'll be in room 308, but otherwise the following details should be accurate:

Also this weekend, noted illustrator Bernie Wrightson will be among the honored guests at the HP Lovecraft Film Festival in the historic Hollywood Theater. Please consult the festival Web site for times, prices, et al. And don't be shocked if some (or all) days sell out:

Hope to see you there.
Cheers,
Lee
Now, I can't go. School is running amok with my time as well as the other stuff I have to do.
And I REALLY wanted to meet Bernie Wrightson. Damnit.
But if you go, trust me, you'll meet some very talented and helpful individuals!
Maybe I'll see ya at the next one in November!
For all the Portland/surrounding area arteests unable to attend Revelations - there will be a gathering of like-minded souls in Portland the Saturday following Revelations.
The monthly Illustrators Open that takes place at the Art Institute (in the Pearl District, if you didn't know). It's normally held the first Saturday of EVERY month; however, I just discussed this with one of the coordinators yesterday and the January's Open will be held a bit late due to Revelations.
So the Saturday after the workshop it is.
I REALLY hope to meet more of you's, too. Especially those of you not able to attend the workshop. Please go to at least the January IllOp! That would be uber cool.![]()
