    Kotaro's Self Portrait

Done with my new charcoal tools including paper stumps and tortillons. Found them very useful. Used Derwent charcoal pencils and a kneadable eraser for the highlight areas. Photographic reference (self-shot from last year, and I kept my eyes wide open for the flash, hate half closed eyes photos).
Yes, my nose is that big.
How come not many girls do self-portraits? Just curious.

    And this

    Big teeth too.

I'd try to do some portraits from life, with a mirror, just because it's harder and better practice.
Especially to get the model to stay still.
So anyways, the dresser temporarily became a desk.

In real life that would be laterally inverted.

Keep going, kotaro! Try different facial expressions. Try using two mirrors.
Use different mediums (pencil, wash, ink) to keep it interesting....

Sorry, haven't visited this part in ages.

Yup yup yup. Definitely try something and move on to a new medium. Being escapist...

this last piece is really nice, I really love how you manage to get those lips this way, as for the ears, they could have be much bigger!

    !

Do you seriously think so? I just extended and pointified mine. I'm not an expert on elf-ear theory (other than reading some Piers Anthony rubbish) so I guess I wouldn't know. This however was more fun than the regular self-portraits. Raising the eyebrows and such.
