Hey man. Sorry that I haven't even checked out your SB until now.

Great progress going on. Really good that you're doing so many anatomy studies, especially of the face, which is a much needed and complex subject (something I really must get onto).

A a critique on the technical side of things. Work on the line quality - scratchy lines can make what would be a good drawing look bad.
Blind contour drawings and scribbling are good techniques to improve the line quality.
Instead of focusing on attaining precision on a drawing, just let go, don't worry about that, think about getting good, flowing lines, and try to capture the image with minimal lines.

    Keep up the good work.

WOW! Your figure sketches with the gestures and the head sketches with different facial expressions are VERY impressive!
I really love the skull too!

I haven't looked through the other pages yet since I have to leave, but I will once I get back.

    Keep up the great work.

    joaKimArt - Thanks.
    Vermis - Thanks
Euthyphro - Hey thanks a lot. You’ve got some good stuff going as well. Keep it up and keep practicing
    kischi - Thanks.
taeyoungchoi - Thnaks as well. I’ve been very busy lately with designing a CD for a Rock band so I’ve been slacking off with drawing. That’s not good.
HunterKiller_ - hey man thanks, I know I have loads of issues with line work, have to work on that. Am trying to work digitally as much as I can but it’s even more difficult that way. I haven’t seen you at the Spartan Thread for a long time man, you should come back and join us again
Thanks for the tips do you mean this technique?

Queen Nehalania - thanks, glad you like it.

Well here is a very small update.

I did a self portrait last week. Pretty weird to sit in front of a mirror and draw yourself.

And a quick head sketch in Painter.

I will post some more for the Spartan Thread later.

Ok here is the stuff for the Spartan Thread of last week. i was running behind on it but thought I'd post it anyway.

    50 Gestures

the Optional Study of a Jump

ohh i found this drawing i did a while back of the Rapper The Game ( don't know him really, just found this picture of him in a magazine and drew it).
the only think bothering me about it as i look at it now is the shape of the forehead. it's a bit too round i think. anyway check it out.

thanks for posting man! nice improvement i admire the studies. i agree soemone said to loosen up. he means, getting construction done with light lines, then go in and draw dark on top of that. explore where shapes are in space first, then go in with dark lines.

see ya later.. keep at it

Some great work and studies in this thread. Your heads still seem to be your weak area. Do you put a basic structure underneath and any guidelines? Your facial features seem to have a tendency to be slightly 'off' in half of the pics making the faces seem abit twisted.

Some great gesture type sketches, very solid hand sketches and some cool colour work, but the heads are still trailing behind.

Sorry if my last post was a little harsh but its just that you posted in three sketchbooks in 4 min thats the kind of thing that makes me think if people really take their time. And there is to many out there who dont really want to improve they just want asspats and thats a shame. If I need to hear that I can do anything and that Im the best I just talk to my mom. CA for me is a way to get good construktive crit from people who know what their saying. I also want to help in any way I can. Sorry if I offended you but try and be constructive with your posts. At least I would like that and I bet a lot more will to.

For crit, I like this last painting you are working on. She has a tenderness to her and shes wery sweet. The way her hair is falling a bit infront of her face it should cast a shadow on her face. Try and give her even more contrast, The light is coming a bit from behind so try and push the dark ereas a bit.

You also need to work on your heads a lot as SEVANS said. One thing that worked for me is to look at other artist and se how they draw nose, eyes, lips and so on. When I started I was really in to Bengal her faces and figures are awsome. Dont worry about feeling like a copycat, its just ref work but it will take you far fast and its easier than photoref is.

nice work on the first painting in the last post, but try and reach a stable degree of "tightening up" in the whole picture (the face is a bit too much rendered looking at the rest of the pic, if tat makes sense

and when you post the 50 "gestres", they aren't all gestures.a gesture drawing is a sketch where you try and establish the rythm of the whole figure (or the hand, duno) with some quick strokes...try and do 50 of just the full human figure

    keep sharing!
    ciao

    Thanks for the comment mate.

Like them studies. I would like some more random stuff and some more full bodies from you. You're often using the same lines when drawing heads in the same positions.

I really like your traditional stuff and it's awesome that you keep working on anatomy...so important, yet so difficult!....I personally found that going to the gym, working out and studying bodybuilding has helped me out enormously for my anatomy studies...! If any of us showed our stuff to a bodybuilder...they would immediately know if we got our muscles and structure right for sure. Keep working at it dude, ur definitely on your way!

SEVANS - Yeah the heads....I know. well i do use some guide lines. i guess i have to work on that some more.
B-Man - Thanks a lot man. i hope to hear from you some more in the future. I would appreciate it a lot.
TheGnoll - you know that drawing gestures loose and simple is more difficult than trying to draw a full character? I try to stay as loose as possible.
MorteM - noted! thanks. I'll be working on some characters for the next few weeks (i hope).
DJeevan - thanks a lot man. means a lot coming from an artist like yourself dude.

Ok here are some more gestures. All full body and from Ref. i've been trying to do as much drawing as possible digitally but it's just so difficult.

I really love the oil painting you did of the guy that some compared to "Danzig".

It is rough, simple, the forms read well and it is very expressive through the brushstrokes.

If you could transfer the same looseness and confidence to your digital paintings, that would be awesome.

I am looking forward to see more of your paitings!

(you got some very good line drawings as well!)

Poses....overload.......... Man I love the character poses! Being an animator, I'm always interested to see how others position the body and what not Great stuff as always though, oh, and that self-portrait looks like it could be in a "how-to" book. I actually had a double take at it lol

hey dude! nice apple.. add a bit of contrast and bam.. sweet.
as for gestures.. don't stress about drawing digitally.. that shouldn't be of any concern, whatever is comfortable for you.. while adding details is always a temptation, try and get the overall feel of a figure first.. (I mean I always make the same mistakes too..) especially with the boobies.. I think it's distracting u a little with drawing the rib cage right.. rib cage and pelvis is important so you want to get that right.. bridgman is awsome at this I think.. just simplifying forms... also watch the proportions..

    keep it going dude!

bumskee - Wow thanks for the visit man. I Appreciate it a lot. Am planning to do more of the color studies so please check back frequently man. drawing gestures simple is fucking more difficult than just drawing gestures man. The boobies are very, very distracting but your right the overall proportions and gesture are the most important. I'll keep working on that.

Here are the gestures for last week

and the Optional study. this time 4 haircuts.

also this quick head sketch i did while drawing gestures. From imagination.

great improvements, the 4 hair cuts study looks great. you added the 3/4th's view. as noted before change up your views, the face to face tends to look flat. keep up the good work.
