Hey all interested
I'm a member here for some time now but have never actually posted anything here. I figured it would be a good idea to start.
Here are some older sketches.

Nice SB Mike. Your best so far is the skull. Nice values and rendering. Would like to see some life studies and anatomy studies. Also some more figure studies from characterdesigns.com. And figures from the mind as well. Keep up the good work.
Thanks Envisor.
I did these quickies friday. Didn't have time to post anything this weekend.
Characterdesigns.com ref
And these are some sketches for a workshop over at CGtalk.com. No ref used.

The head on that last woman in the last post is a bit small. But you're quite strong in markmaking in both your paintings and drawings. I can really get a sense of volume and texture.
thanks.
here are a few dino sketches.
And one i'm rendering at the moment
and some other sketches.

great sketchbook coming along here! nice gesture work there too!![]()
Thanks BurntUmber and Tom. I'm really trying to learn this anatomy stuff but it's not easy man. especially digitally. I'm really starting to get more and more respect for guys like you that do it so good!!
Heres one i just finished. done from a photo.

Hey man these are looking pretty sweet. On the last one I think you could definately push the value more on both ends of the spectrum. And also keep in mind about your gradation of form, and edges. some read a bit flat, like her arm because the gradation is too abrupt and ends with a thick black line. I know Elwell has a great thread about edges on here somewhere. But good stuff man, keep pushing it. I really like the first peice on the page.
Skeiff - thanks a lot for the tips man. i'll give it a go and update it later. any idea where this tutoraial would be? this guys posts quite a lot![]()

Some heads and a foot study for the spartan thread

Amazing gestures. Do you usually use pencil for those? How large are most of them anyway? And where do you get your references from?
Keep it up! It's inspiring.
hey metal-mike! nice studies, keep them going, when doing gestures, try and simplify to bigger shapes, like torso, hips.. shoulders.. and so on.. otherwise you may start focusing too much on details and lose the overall picture. head studies looking good, make sure u check out loomis head book!
stylus - Thanks man. I'm trying to do as much as possible digitally so i get a bit better with the tablet (First 14 heads for example). but i also like to do pencil sketches too. When i draw from ref i don't draw too big, usually around 2`3 inches depending on what i'm drawing. I get me ref's from all over internet. I don't know if you ever download stuff with bittorrent but there's this great website called mininova.org where they have a pictures section as well. you can download all kinds of photo's of actrices or models. other than that just browse the net man. it's the best library every!!!
bumskee - dude it's such an honor to get some crits from you personally man. thanks a lot. indeed that's the shit that always happen to me. i get into details way too soon and loose myself in it not thinking about the overall concept.
We'll just have to work on that. thanks a lot guys.
Thought i'd upload my oil paintings as well. Just getting started with tis stuff. it's pretty cool to work with traditional media and makes you respect the old masters even more!!!

oh and here's a looksy at what i'm working on now. it was actually forthe CHOW thread but i didn't make it on time. still want to finish it though.

thanks for the advice, i do have a problem with detailing to much. I do draw big but not so loose
Heyy!!Thanks for dropping by my SB! I really like your stuff,I like the way you use the grey scale and those oils are fantastic, man!!!I´ll keep coming here!
well here's the fly breeder. added some background to it. wanted to add some color but have no idea how to do that. need to get busy with color as well.

Nice sketches so far.. I like ur little gesture drawings where u try to draw one pose from many angles.. Has also thought of doing that but never really got to it...
Ur fly breeder work.. I feel it is a bit left side heavy.. Considering ur craeture is facing the left of the picture and pointing towards it, you need more space at the left or else it will have the feeling of dropping off the picture area. Possibly some environment might help solidify the composition? Good attention to the anatomy though![]()

Thanks a lot guys. still loads of practicing to do. the gestures are for a thread here at the forum called the Spartan. it's a weekly assignment of 50 gestures and one optional study. it's a very good practice. you should check it out.
