i really like the first airbrush attempts you posted, with the jagged edges. also maybe it's just me but you could always change the contrast for the first image (the skull) making some parts much darker and leaving some parts lighter?

hmm, yeah, but i did those paintings on bristol board with thinned india ink non-waterproof.
i'm working on another one that has white ink, but it's turning out with a strange blue-ish tint, dunno if there is a way to prevent that.

Good values, especially the first one with the leather jacket. But remember to keep anatomy and proportions in mind as well!

hungry werewolf, used mechanical pencil HB, and paper 60lb textured.

warlock and sorcerer sketches. they are incomplete, but i did not feel finishing them, the way they appear is relevant enough that they seem to be that sort of character.
    stay tuned, crits please.

hey man, its that dude from the sketcher, good sketchbook here, you are pulling through and finishing most of the stuff too, keep that up!!

something you might want to focus on is facial proportions, mainly how big features are in relation to eachother. Try to look at a lot of photos, and just stare at them for a while and look for any information you can find, how far is the distance between the nose and the end of the lip? how wide is the nose? and so forth and so forth. after a while you will get an understanding of what looks wrong in a face. you probobly wont know how to make it look right, but at least you will know what the problem is, and thats a start!

drawings from pictures, one of my favorites is from a photo that had this pet handler from Nigeria. the handler had a pet hyena. i think it's pretty badass to own a hyena. pretty dangerous, but cool. even the handler has scars from dealing with such a vicious beast.

here's some drawings of batman, i actually tried redesigning batman. yeah, it's hard doing that to such a classic character. one of my favorite comic heroes, prefer him than most. because he's not ridiculously powerful, he's human and he's got the right tricks up his sleeve.

the new batman movie coming is to theaters and the evolution of batman is there. Being a super rich business owner who wears a cape-laden spandex suit at night to fight crime and restore order to Gotham city. but his suit keeps changing and as it evolved it made more sense. now it's a high-tech combat suit with a memory cloth cape that turns into a glider. I guess as today's tech is evolving, batman evolves.

what if batman was put in a different time setting? a completely different century? medieval times? steam age? i tried drawing what i thought batman would look like if he was put a more ancient time period. I even considered doing something where he was a mutant that had traits and complexions of a bat, but that would totally change his alter-ego.

here is an update on some painting studies. the approaches can be pretty different between traditional and digital. digital seems so much easier but at the same time it's so much to work with.
    crits please.

Hey dude. Thanks for droppin' by my SB.

Got some interesting things going on. Air brushes are interesting.
Experiment with different mediums, but also experiment with the same medium. There are many ways to use the air brush, if it's what you enjoy then go nuts with it.

The chick on that one is nice. Keep doing that sort of work.

Keep up with the reference work, and do lots of life drawing.

    Peace.

man i love those airbrush pieces you did. so refreshing and you really used the limitation of the stencils to make something you would otherwise not come up with so easily i think. really cool designs, reminds me of some simple but very powerful aztec and african statuettes.

thanks man, i never thought of the airbrush work that way, i was just messing around with the airbrush my dad gave me. Iwata Eclipse, nice airbrush, but i haven't used since it last a piece and needs some major cleaning, been using differen paints with it, airbrush paint, acrilic paint, and ink. Ink works the best, easy to wash out and doesn't screw up the valve. main reason i picked up cause i was so inspired by HR Giger's paintings, so i had to try airbrush.

But yeah, I've seen lots of African art before, friend's house is full of that stuff. and of Aztec, that always gets me thinking of Aztec warlocks doing creepy rituals and removing hearts from sacrificial "volunteers". lol

If you don't already have Anthony Ryder's "The Artist's Complete Guide to Figure Drawing," grab it! And then read the chapter on Gesture a couple times every few months or so while you take life drawing classes. I promise you it will get you on track to improve everything else

Thanks man, I'll be sure to look for it. I've read other books like ones by Burne Hogarth or some others. i can't find the Loomis books anymore, which used to be available on many sites for download. But Local bookstores art book sections are being invaded by "How to draw manga" books...

im not really one to critique but if i had to point one thing out it would be that a lot of your characters have the same expression with their mouths. i would practice a lot of energetic expressions to add more life.....
