Some real nice painter work mate, did a nice job on quite a few of these, dig how you lay down the brush strokes.

you do have some sweet robot designs. Iam particulary fond of your Cyberdactyl concept. You can tell straight away that your very talented with painter. I am Photoshop fella.

Have you thought about spending some extra time on your strongest designs, to make the shapes and the overall painting tighter? That would look ace with your already bloody awesome designs.

    Keep em coming man!

thanks AK, I do enjoy painter, I still use photoshop allot, I just like the straighforwardness painter can provide, and find that its brush simulation can make the process go faster. I still use photoshop to touch up my pictures when im done though. Allot of the designs lately have been pretty week. I am going to move forward for now, ,and when I have 30-40 pics up, maybe ill choose two of my favorites to work on more. but for now, the goal is simply to get me back in good habits.

    these look really cool.
I really enjoy the brush work and the spontaneity of all of them. definitely seems like good practice.
Are you using artists oils on these? if so care to share your settings? I've never been able to get them to work right =/

Im flattered you say i am "in the zone". Im hopeing pure bulk of work will make me a better painter. It probly wont help me with skin and organics much though as lighting is different with that. what do you think you need help on with painting?

The samurai pay attention to there swing of there blade, they would practice calligraphy never stopping there brush, so that it would all be completely fluid, with speed came form. they were maximizing the effitiantcey of every stroke to convey the most amount of information in the simplest way.

With my robots, I honestly just paint a shape in black and then use Grey to give it shape, for the first 5 min I don't even know what i'm making. I just look at the inkblot like i do with clouds and wait for a shape to "appear"

I like to use the soft grainy impasto, or the wet oily impastos in the artist oils for these. I tinker with the resat and opacity a smidge, but there pretty close to defults. They blend well and still retain the main color for just the right amount. I really like your sketchbook b-9, soft muted colors are good, how are you doing the "coffie spill" look?

thanks for the heads up on the brushes, I always assume people are using the artist's oils for some reason, probably because I can never achieve a similar look.

Thanks for the compliment, the spilled coffee look is actually scanned in ink drips that I just play with the layer properties. I think I still have the scans somewhere, if you want, send me a message and I can give them to you.

b9 - it would be good to see how you did that, i've heard friends who crinkle up paper and soak it in coffee and use it as an aged texture.

loop - it takes anywhere from 15 min to an hour each, but i try to keep them to 30 min. that normally is more than enough unless its not just "happening" with a peticular piece. the ones i most like however took me 15 min, like 6 legs and manbot

    heres the latest:
