This is all looking really good. I really like your animal studies. Great job.

Hey, thanks for checking out my sketchbook Piranha- your child portraits are awesome they look amazing like so simple and clean and pure, just like children huh? Til they grow up that is. I dig the anatomy the torso and arms you have there it's really clean and impressive. Yet I kinda feel a lack of motion of really flexing the muscles this might be because they are exaggerated and such yet I just get the sense- nevertheless really nice sketching style you have going on. Thanks for stopping by my SB again, I'll be keeping an eye on yours.![]()
callouses on the fingers. If you don’t have any, you’re not drawing enough.
I will be an Artist or nothing! ; The Sketchbook
Geez.
I'm thinking I should really wait one day before critting any work. I came back for another look at Batman, and only with this second look noticed the white outline, which totally gives a context to the white in the eyes, and also helps with his "baby blues".
So...never mind![]()

OK, I guess some replies are overdue. Here goes...
dkounios, Old Noobie, Yacob, GunTrover, Flaskpost, ExilE, Chaotic Knight, atlantik, Teh Gosu, jim b, Fahad, cmoreland, Graphite Revolver: Thank you all so much and welcome back to a few of you. I always appreciate all your time and support.
Hunter Killer: I think I remember you too, but I think you commented on some stuff I had in the critique center awhile back. I loved my childhood, the 80's was the best! Stop by my SB anytime, man.
electricmoonshine: You're right about the lips, thanks. Lips are somewhat hit-and-miss for me. I'm working on it.
nethus: I regret the strong outline on the collarbones/chest. Oh well, it was more of a study for anatomy and hatching's sake than linework. Good eye.
Guilemo: I'm flattered, thanks. There's many more talented artists around here to study from, though. But feel free to stop by anytime if it helps you!
Sketch: I thought that too, but I wanted the eyes to be the emphasis. I was also trying to imply that a cast shadow was covering the bottom of his face, hence not much of it showing. I might go back and touch it up, though. Thanks for your observations.
Talking Jello: Motion is something that's not always easy for me to capture but something I'm working towards. The pose was pretty static, however, because the reference was a picture of late 70's Mr. Universe-era Schwarzenegger. Maybe I should have noted that it was him in the original post...you're not the first to suggest that the anatomy is exaggerated, but he was HUGE. It's not really exaggerated if you were to see the photo I was working from. I do appreciate your observations. Stop back by soon!
Cory Hinman: Don't think about your crits too much...truthfully, I always want your first impression, because you're frequently correct and very helpful to me. I think you were totally right the first time about the white of the eyes. I have always just had this reflex...eyeballs, white, done...without really thinking about the roundness and the shadows and all you suggested. It's something I'm going to work on, so thanks. I'll probably go back and touch-up that Batman portrait, see if I can't remedy that. The intense blue...well I like the icy blues, I think I'll leave them. Cold and stony, chilling the blood of evildoers, you know. The white outline...outlines bother some people, others not. I think outlines look good, if used in the right context. In this case, I think the strong white outline worked. Plus it was the only way to make his profile stand out on that black bristol board. That stuff's fun to use.
Thanks, everyone. I'll be checking up on you all soon!
Hey dude! It's been awhile. I gotta say, your icon made me crack up pretty hard.
I agree with Sketch about Batman, it'd look much better if the jaw was visible. I like the greyscale one better, the bright blue eyes just look too unrealistic compared to the rest of it. But man do I love Batman. You should do a joker one. Jack Nicolson style. Totally.

The Bat's mask might be lookin' just a tad wide there... I dunno
And what fantastic highlights on those redz. Hot like wasabiLol..
Look, see! Nifty art!http://www.conceptart.org/forums/showthread.php?t=99803
Hey! Check out my blog here
It does look wide, but so does Matt's ref for this picture. I rmember thinking when the Keaton movies came out that the cowl design really made Keaton's head look "wide".
Matt, I love what you're doing here, making the paper part of your palette. My fave is that red Imperial guard.
man I would hang that latest Batman in my house. Nice. Methinks you are a Keaton Batman fan. The one and only Batman of course...

Hey thanks again for keepin in touch, look at you with 6 pages. I'm behind!!
Anyway, when do you find time to draw? This coming from another dad, I never freakin have the time to sit down and draw! When I do I'm usually dead tired and can't concentrate!

nice stuff dude! give me more eye candy tbh! that last batman pic was awsomewell, since u wanted me to comment the bruce lee drawing, i will
(if that was what u ment) although it's been a while since u did it.
his left eye seems to be a bit too far up, and a bit small, and i would like to see more dark values ;P
when it comes to your work in general, i would like to see u work with more loose lines.(prob because thats how i like to work though xD ) try not to trap the drawing inside some really thick lines. try to take a huge paper and work with something you like. sketch it up fast and use loose lines. and try your best not to use the eraser, just place a new line next to the one u miss placed. thats about what i have to say i guesgl, and keep on posting ^^

Haven't posted since Nov. I suck. Nothing original, as usual, also because I suck. But hey, these are for a guy on ebay, and they're what he asked for, so...
Still have some work to do on this one:
See you guys in a few months...![]()
A sketch:

You've got some awesome stuff in here. I especially like the last one. You captured the face very nicely...![]()
That Venom costume is great! haha. I dig the Snake Eyes pic but I do dig pretty much anything that has Snake Eyes in it. Great portrait in your last post.
Thank you for your comment!Whoah, so much pretty drawings here, I love the latest batgirl sketch, it's simple and clean.
That's some great Batgirl ref you've got there, Matt! And the Venom pic looks like great Joker ref to me. I'm thinking about it...I love the GI Joe guy on black. Is that ink and Prismacolor? the graphite one's coming along nicely too. Overall good job on the perspective of Batgirl's up-tilted head, except the mouth is a little off-drawing. While it does have the right "wrapping around a barrel" feel, it's too horizontal. You need to place the corners of the mouth on a diagonal parallel to the diagonal running through the eyes.
Inspiring stuff, overall, thanks!
Who's the Batgirl and Venom?
Finally some updates.Need more!
thanks for the comments man..im glad you like my chows..they havnt been getting the votes id like them to get but oh well..gotta try harder..my medusa was in the top 5 though..i was pretty happy to see that..but yea. i definately see an improvment from page 1 to page 6 here...just keep drawing and painting as much as you possibly can..and just be real observant and pay attention to everything. and maybe try staying away from line for a while..use line to establish value, i.e. cross hatching, or scribbling, but try not to use line by itself..see what comes of that..you gotta always try different stuff or your work will just stay the same...ok man, talk to ya later.

Thanks for your continued support everybody, it's nice to be encouraged by a group of such talented people.![]()
PredatrHuntr, Sketch, Maried: Thanks for the Batgirl props. She got lots of looks and compliments on Halloween too. My girl rocks.
Cory: Good to hear from you again. I see what you mean about the mouth slant now...thanks. Snake Eyes is nothing more than white prismacolor on black paper. I really enjoy that combo for some reason, using the paper as part of the palette. It might have something to do with not wanting to shade a bunch of black/darks either. Laziness at its best. I would be totally stoked if you used my Venom pic as a joker ref; you have to now. DO IT!!
HunterKiller: Those are both Halloween 07' pics of myself and my daughter, respectively. Good times.
DeKal: Thanks for your observations. I agree. I'll keep working on it.

Ok, so here's something different. Anybody else ever draw on a bowling pin?
![]()
I dig how you're being creative in a lot of different ways! Now I need to go find a bowling pin... jeez! Actually all the bowling alleys in my city shut down, a sad day indeed.
Sketch: Thanks, meng. Had my girls' 9th birthday party a few weeks back at this new place called Main Event. Part of the package was bowling with a personalized souvenir pin for the b-day girl. The staff usually does it. They said I was the first one since the place opened last Oct that asked if I could do it myself. It was quite difficult, drawing on a curved plastic suface. Done with colored sharpies. Fun. Thanks for looking.
Lolz! Bowling pin birthday drawz! And yes, curved surfaces are teh hard; doing it in Sharpie doesn't make it any easier
Madd skillz, sir. *doffs cap*
HmmmWhat stands out to me in terms of crits is the Batgirl sketch... I think the line outlining her left nostril is a little dark, so it kinda makes her nose look a bit funny. In the orig. pic, you can't see so much of the whites of her eyes, which changes the look of the sketch. And Cory's right, the mouth needs some work -- notice the lipline in the orig. pic: (her) right corner of the mouth isn't actually the outline of her lip. The pink part of her lip curves down before the actual corner... see? Also, watch the jawline; it's not as smooth as in your sketch -- the soft curve of her cheeks kinda extends to the jawline.. Little stuff like that makes a big difference
Hope this helpsEagerly awaiting the next PC's Artz installment!
Cheers![]()
