Hey man thanks for the kind words in my sketchbook!
I have one suggestion for you which is to read up a little bit on edges. Or if not read, then just give a little consideration to your edges in each piece. I say that because your paints tend to look a little like they are painted and then pasted onto the background colour. For a 3-D form to look convincing it should ideally have hard and soft edges (and everything in between).
I have done another paint of your torso modelled below, I hope you don't mind. I have gone a little too soft on the edges generally (eager to prove the point), but it gives some idea of what I mean above. Try to soften edges in shadow, or further away for example. If you look at objects around you considering edges you can slowly learn when and where to use them (what I'm trying to do currently)
I hope that helps.

its neat to see a lot of focused studies pallittle samples of different objectives.
With values in your studies, do keep in mind that all highlights, or all darks, are not equal across different planes. Its something I know that you know, but looking at something like the top armored guy on this page makes me think all the armors highlights are all pretty equal. As well, don't be afraid to bring out a smudger or blend brush so add some softer areas where needed - it will only add more variety and realism. (the hard edges on the Swan clearly make the head stand out, though perhaps the body and wings are a tad too soft?)

hey jakers thanks for your comment!

i never used smudge or blend brushes - maybe its time to try them out

but this time heres just a comission work i was allowed to show (concept for a sidescrolling pirate game - im also doing the gameart for this project so thers a lot to show soon)

huge improvements on your latest digitals! good things are coming, and that EoW looks great.
only critique might be the edges on some of your forms, but it looks like that's been pointed out and your addressing it.
keep rockin' it
cheers
well I haven't done enough paintings myself to judge yours but I have to say they look really good.

wow all of these are interesting and seem to be pushing your skills - I'm all 'design' right now but you're making me want to paint! Killer shark, you nailed the values to a realistic level. The red/green final landscape is really powerful in a simple way so far...I dig it.
The angel's pose bothers me a bit...maybe the head is a little small even given the upshot, and the arm size could be a little off as well...care you post a larger one for a closer look?
Love the main in the suit right below that (with the rim lighting). Be careful to balance the pose though, hes leaning quite a bit imo.
Have fun![]()
