thats pretty f'in wild. how did you do those ribbons? the thinnest thing i have accomplished was the wings on my demon girl and that was tricky enough. those look paper thin!!!

and i would definitely like to see some close ups too. thats one hell of a sculpt!

Very impressive. The cloth is a particularly nice touch... great technique and makes it really jump to life! Any chance we can see the sketch your using for reference?

Ah cool, I was waiting to see if anyone from ACAD was on this forum. I saw it in the main mall a couple months ago. Nice work, my favorite of the show.

I really like the pose and the drapery, has kind of a spawn feel to it.

The detail and movement look good. But it's soo busy, it doesn't read very well. I think some areas need to be simpler, just so it's clearer what it is.

Hey all, thanks for the compliments:

A little bit of backstory to it for those interested. The Death of St Sebastian is a painting by Mantegna that has always captured my imagination. The sculpture is very loosely based on the painting in form, but very strongly on the feeling I get viewing it.

Anyway, I'm adding some detail shots to the original post for those that asked, and personal responses to crits follow.

Vash: The ribbons are about half a millimetre thick and I held them up with an inner armature of rebar wire, which is this ridiculously sturdy steel wire thats super thin. It's usually used for tying rebar (hence the name) together for pouring concrete floors and junk.

Insomniac Zombie: The arrows are just undersized... I don't really know why, I just thought they looked good that size.

Praesagus: Other then the painting, which I didn't have to look at while I was sculpting, I haven't been using ref photos or presketching my sculptures lately. References are by far the most important tool a sculptor has at their disposal (y'know, besides the actual materials themselves, eh?) but I've been trying to see where I stand without that crutch lately.

Dark_Wraith: Yah ACAD! Thanks for the compliments man, what department are you majoring/going to major in?

Crusoe: I agree, its very busy. I'm going to be painting it in the next week or two and I hope to use colour to direct the viewer to the areas that matter. If that doesn't work its a lesson to me in over detailing...
