Emperor FeelFly, also called the Heart Harvester, have an strange ability to "understand" the feeling of other beings.
When Emperor Feelfly tail turns red, it is a good sing of love. That's why lovers buy this little fellas - to try and test they feelings
- and the Emperor Feelfly is the evidence of emotions. But, when the love of a pair is not true,
Feelfly tails become black, and this little animal began to shriek terribly.
That's why Feelfly is also called the Heart Harvester - destroyer of the Unfairly Couples.

This colourful crustacean is known as the Heart Harvester. The bright colours aren't as bright as its cold, vicious demeanor. In cold times of the year, this creature goes on the hunt, clawing its way through the chests of it's victims removing their heart and consuming it.
At the end of the cold season, it burrows back down into the earth from which it had once came, and waits for the cold season to return to once more feed again.

On one such world, from uncounted eons past there yet lurks an unholy offspring named Cthoggu. The cult of troglodytes who worship this horror name it the Heart Harvester in low whispers. To its swampy lair they drag helpless victims and prod them into its fetid hole with their primitive stone spears. Emerging slowly and noisesomely, its sickly yellow hide begrudgingly reflecting the wan light, Cthoggu earns the name Heart Hearvester in a lightning quick strike of blood and viscera. Once Cthoggu has fed on the heart and retreated back to its dreadfull slumber, the cult dash forward and devour the unclean remains of their sacrifice amid many growls and unwholesome slurpings.

This dark, human sized creature haunts battlefields at dusk.
It feeds from the blood of the wounded, ripping their chest to eat the heart while it's still warm.
Its color (dark brown, purple or black...) and its silhouette, with long scythe-like legs gave rise to the legend of the gream reaper.
In winter, the vapor coming out of the bodie's warm chest made the feeding beast look like a leaning ghost inhaling souls.

Life is quite different on the planet Aquilios. Comprised mostly of water, with an atmosphere caustic to human life, a plant known as heartkelp is here in abundance flowing freely in and out with the tides. This plants heart like shape enables it to smoothly sail thru the water while collecting smaller sea creatures on which it feeds. The animals are trapped inside its conical hold and are slowly digested.
Living in conjunction with the heartkelp however are the Kelpicrab, or “Heart harvesters” as they have become known. These chitin shelled scavenger gather up the heartkelp as it drifts in on the tides… creating large stores on the beaches which it viciously defends. Using its large underbelly proboscis it feeds off of the heartkelps trapped prey and then with the incoming tide lets the kelp back out to sea to collect foodstuffs once again.

This massive creature was created by an evil race of tunnel dwellers. Designed to feed off the life force of human beings by harvesting their hearts and blood into their own systems. These creatures have no quality of life, their only purpose being to keep killing humans so that they can survive. The Dwellers made these monsters by creating cyborgs out of the gigantic Scorporion Giants. All of the harvested hearts and blood travel to the creature's own heart-like container where it is absorbed into the creature's powerful life system. It usually requires somewhere around 50 to 60 humans to keep it going every 24 hours, and for this reason they are usually built under heavily populated areas such as cities, where they surface and immediately begin feeding. They are extremely dificult to destroy.

Here we see an adult-sized heart harvester scaring a few pesky scavengers away from his prize. Not that he would go hungry if the buzzards were to spoil this plate: heart harvesters get their name from the habit of storing several hearts - even dozens at a time - in different locations, preferably on stone in the open air, as the rays of the sun heat the rock and accelerate the decay process. After several weeks, that heart will be nice and spoiled - just how the heart harvester likes it...

The Coreguana is a fierce creature. Its favorite hunting method is to keep in hiding and spring forward when a prey presents itself. Its hard beak combined with its tremendous jumping power enables the Coreguana to pierce the torsos of most large mammals. This comes in very handy since it prefers to feed on strong and blond soaked muscles of the heart. Quite how the Coreguana developed this specific diet is unknown. The Coreguana is now almost extinct. It was hunted feverishly when it developed a habit of piercing livestock. It is believed some still remain deep in the forests of the amazone.

This viscious creature haunts the mass graves of recent conflicts.
This sinewy monster is powerful enough to tear injured bipeds limb from limb.
Being smallish in size, they tend to stick to the shadows and ambush wounded troops. Known to travel in large packs. If a Crawler openly stalks you, then the pack is surely nearby.
Their overly large talons are well suited at ripping open their victims chest cavities to gain access to their food source, your heart.
Their double row mandibles puncture muscle and tissue effectively and make quick work of your most vital organ.
The Crawler is the last sight you want to see after night falls.

No one knows where they came from, no one have seen their nesting ground. The Hell Harvesters travels at night and can hear the heart beats of living creatures from far away, as they track down their prey, they dive from the air and accurately chisel the front of their head into the prey's chest and launches their spike-like feet and tail to penetrate into the chest around the area of the heart. Just as quickly, the harvester push its body back with its powerful tail and wing, with the help of the saw-like hooks at the back of the feet and tail, it breaks the ribcage and rips the heart out. The inner-lining of the tail and feet contain soft short tentacles to hold the heart firmly in place while not destroying it, the harvested then fly back to the nesting ground with the harvested heart.
For some strange reason, the Harvester actaully does not eat the heart, but instead later returns to feed on the prey's corpse. No one really knows why, perhaps it is to mark their territory to fear off any intruders. Some rumors that they're creatures from hell, minions of death and bringing and end to the world...

The harvester strikes at a sleeping target. It begins by injecting a paralytic poison, then climbs onto the victim's chest and begins to saw through the skin, flesh, and rib cage with its forelimbs. Once these obstacles are out of the way, the harvester slices the arteries and veins so that the heart is no longer connected to the victim's circulatory system. The harvester then turns around and opens the three petals of the pod on the end of its tail. The pod is inserted into the chest around the heart and then closed. Once pulled free from the chest, the pod is swung onto the back of the harvester so it doesn't unbalance the creature while it is moving. Small spiky protrusions on the creature's back keep the bloody pod from sliding to either side during transport. Since the harvester is designed to retrieve living, viable hearts, the pod protects the heart from the elements, dirt, and other contaminants. Its cargo loaded, the harvester sprints back to its master to deliver the heart.

In a world where bison still roam the planes you will find the Hahonata; this solitary creature normally stalks bison waiting for opportunities to take a kill and feast. Once a year when the bison gather for their mass migration male Hahonata gather in groups of five or more, they search out a natural bottleneck, such as a rocky crag, where the bison will pass. There they wait and prepare for the ambush. When the huge herd is well congested in the bottle neck…the kill begins. The Hahonata hurl boulders at the trapped bison often killing with a single stone to the head. The powerful Hahonata outweigh even the largest Bison. They kill as many Bison as they can, first with stones, then as the kill progresses they jump down into the herd killing and maiming with their dagger like claws. Although they seem to be working as a team this is a purely selfish endeavour for they are after all solitary creatures. The killing spree continues until one of the Hahonata tears into a Bison’s ribcage and pulls out its hart…the harvest begins! The Hart Harvesters begin to feverishly consume as many Bison harts as possible ripping and tearing their way through the massacred corpses. When the Harvest is done and the last heart has been eaten the Hahonata disband and head for the breading grounds. The more harts a Hahonata has consumed the more attractive his sent will be to potential mates.
The people of the planes also hunt the Bison, when hunting season arrives and the Bison herds are small the people say Hahonata has had a good year.

The Fireboar is a distant cousin of the common pig. They are substantially larger than your average boar, and are notoriously bad tempered. Although mostly vegetarian, these creatures are actually omnivores and are known to eat humans too. Their size makes them almost immune to predators.
They live in solitude for most of their life, but once a year the inevitably has to happen: Springtime. Since Fireboars can't stand the sight of another Fireboar, they have a slight handicap when it comes to making the next generation. The solution to this is not unknown to humankind: they get horribly drunk.
The Lotus flower originally grew in the wild in warm regions, but since humankind discovered that the hearts of these flowers contained alcoholic liquors, they immediatelly began to cultivate it.
The Fireboars however made the same discovery ages back, and now find the Lotus aplenty on the cultivated fields. In springtime, the Fireboars gather on the fields and are able to destroy the whole harvest in just a couple of hours. Farmers are wise not to interrupt their party because the boars being dangerous already when sober, being drunk they're twice as dangerous.
The Fireboars lower jaw is ideal for eating these flowers, since its front teeth are shovel-like and break the flower at the stem so that the membrane won't brake and all the alcohol would spill on the ground.

The Beaver-tailed Heart Harvester is a specialized and drastically oversized worker of the Harvester Ant species. The Heart Harvester preys solely on Three-toed Sloths because of the precision work of detaching the heart unharmed requires a minimum amount of movement. Once led to a sloth by scouts of its species (Heart Harvesters have compromised their antennae for a smooth snout so they are virtually 'blind'), it prods the sloth's chest until the four points of its forceps fit neatly into the slots between the ribs in the upper ribcage, wraps its prehensile abdomen and forelegs around the nearest branch, and uses its sharp and powerful mandibles to neatly cut loose the heart from its place.
Once free, the heart is swallowed and kept in the Heart Harvester's Pelican-like pouch where it is bathed in a nurtient-rich gel to keep it beating. It is carried into specially cleared lower tunnels, about as wide as a man's upper arm and below the underground nursery where Harverter Ant drones grow the colony's food. The end of the tunnels terminate as a apple-sized chamber with three to fourteen smaller tunnels branching off from that.
The Heart Harvester vomits the heart and the protective gel into the chamber, angles it properly, then returns to the sloth's carcass to feed.
The sloth's heart provides a pump to bring underground water sources to the nursery, and will last for little over a week until it needs to be replaced.

Nessy is a prehistoric heart leech. She attaches herself to the underbellies of her prey (whale sharks, orcas, and the occasional manatee) and consumes their hearts. The two front fins are used to mount the prey, and then the back fins keep her balanced. Only the females harvest the hearts for the spawning pools on the abandoned coral reefs. The males care for the babies while the female harvests. The male takes in the hearts during breeding and the hearts turn into the eggs inside their reproductive systems.

Living througout the rocky plains in secluded caves the heart harvester is both feared and hunted by the surrounding villages and towns. Victims of this creature are found mostly intact except they are always missing their heart...apparently this is the creatures main reason for its attack on humans..only eating the remains as an afterthought. The creatures always attack its victim by encircling the body and then piercing it with its sharp talons...then while the victim is immoblized the heart is torn out with its sharp tongue like appendage.

You need to think more about presentation and finishing your piece. Don't know why you added the soft overlays on some edges, which make the shape dissolving. Forget about the border and anything which distracts from the creature. Draw the whole body and think of the design and finally work out the details.

Well, the reason why your piece is rejected is the most important one for me when it comes to conceptart actually. There is no (and i think i mean absolutely no ) design in your creature. It is a squirrel, which is drawn 1:1 from a ref photo i suppose. I mean, where is the sense behind this?

You are supposed to think of a new creature...i don't want to sound rude, because i am not, i am just trying to open your eyes and what i am writing here is not only meant for you, it is for all artists, who need to understand some things about their passion, so they can improve and don't waste their time.

If an art director demands a new creature for his game or movie, what would he think if he gets an ordinary squirrel as a suggestion from you?
Creativity has not to be in the concept only (as in your entry), it has to be everywhere. In your design, rendering, colors, details, approach, style etc

You have to open new doors on many floors. Some will show you rooms you and others already know, but then sometimes you will open a room which is completely new and brings light to anyone who enters it. It is our goal to find these special rooms, but you can't find them if you don't open the doors.

So, continue open as many doors as you can.

Your entry opened to less doors But i see a nice approach on the leaves at the bottom right...i like them more than anything else on your image. There you can continue your journey

First i skipped your entry, because it was obviously unfinished for me. Than i looked through your sb and i saw that all your work looks like that. I wanna give you a serious advice here, if you think your work is finished it is not, in fact it is only a base of shapes you can start to work details on it. Really, you have to invest more time in your works, all of them look like quick studies.
When we compare this with modelling a sculpture, you would call it finished already when we only have a vague form, where you can guess what it could look like, but you have to go further. Grabbing the knife and fine tools to work out the folds, details, scratches, texture etc
So this said, try to work 3 times longer on your next piece, give it a try, your work will benefit from that i am sure
Oh and the reason why i took your entry to the poll is, that you will get c&c for your work, which i think will only support my view

This round was awesome in all aspects!
And this round was very tough - a big bunch of superior works. I have so many favorites... but, as I promise, I vote for VegasMike work - just because this work blown my brain. The concept of mixin' up the owl, pelicano and the vulture is too brilliant for me. Superb.
And, of course, JakkaS and Njoo create absolutely perfect pics, with gorgeus colors and ingenious drawing skills. Perfecto.
Vorace, Supervlieg, Chuck,Mate and Madcap also show us fantastic skills. Love all of those pics. The best round for me

It wasn't easy. I was really torn apart between vorace and vm. Vorace's color is amazing and the rendering is really tight.
But waht did it for me on vm's piece is the intimidating sillouette and the character on the face of the creature.

This round feels a little awkward. The reason for it is that VegasMike rocked so hard that he is likely to win it quite easily, even though there are several very strong pieces here and even though they too are pro looking pieces - the poll outcome wont be a fair representation of their skill. They all should be given 10 votes by default

i voted for Beesfis- i think it looks almost lifelike and i liked the concept, even before it was fleshed out. i think it's a funny idea, and the creature doesnt necessarily kill anyone or anything to gain hearts. aaaw. how sweet.

a question about mine for fozzybar or anyone else-
does my work really look that Obviously unfinished? before, when i posted a wip, i only got one comment on putting more details in the face.
dont want to put anyone on the spot, but i can pick out at least four others whose work looks, to me, more unfinished than mine.
what can i do to fix this? i cant even see whats wrong with mine other than some anatomy problems
