    hi Smoke,

you are dealing well with atmospheric effects, your environments are interesting

but last two figures studies are flat and the color is grimy

i know that doing what is working out is satisfying but leaving the safe shelter will bring progress

hope you get what i meant

    cheers

Thanks for stopping by my sketchbook!

I really lke your lanscapes, although sometime I think it would pay to adhere to the rule of thirds more closley, I noticed that you often leave a main feature to close to/ pointing to the outside of the frame, causing the eye to leave the frame and become confused.

Ide also say that your gestures could use a bit of stretching out and balance, I think you might be getting too caught up with fitting them into their notches on the page and not concentrating enough on their flow and dynamism. -- that said, I'm only just getting into the habit of using gestures and the body construction system, so I might be talking out of my arse.

but yeah, nice landscapes, my favourate in here is the zeypher valley ambush.

Really beautiful sense of atmosphere/space on your environments!

If you're feeling frustrated trying to paint the figure in your studies, don't forget you can always draw instead to keep things simplified until you're feeling more confident in you anatomy and proportion skills.

I like this version more. Would the light from the globe light up the ground more, too? Not sure.

    Hey!

Some nice observational painting up in here! I think with some of your imaginative stuff it would help if you bumped up the variety in your compositions especially in some of your shapes and mark making. I'm noticing some repetition and almost "stamp" tool marks in some of them. Keep up it up though, the narrative environment stuff is looking good.

    Cheers

Klandestineone - Yeah I really should fix that.

GrayHouse - Thanks. You're right about compositions being a bit boring an repetitive, I hope to be improving in that area through studies.

    Here's a WIP master study.

Only two things. First. Try avoiding pure black in your pieces. Second. Make images you're posting a bit smaller. Not everyone have huge screens ;<

Hey, nice post here. The value structure is looking good and I'm enjoying the limited palette and the warm light, but the thing I noticed is that you're missing the focal point! You have this nice warm light cutting through the mid ground and and it's not being put to work. Throw a figure in there, or an object, anything to tell a story.

    Best,

    g.

Thanks guys. I've resized these for you.

I've also been spending more time on basics, it doesn't show here because these are relatively old, apart from the necromancer baby thing. I'm trying to think more about what makes an image work rather than what makes an image look nice.

I will finish the forest at some point, I think it deserves some more love, if only because it was a spontaneous piece.
