    LAAFA Atelier vs Art Center

    Hello peoples,
I am new to the bored and have a question for anyone who is attending either of these schools.

What are the pros and cons of these two schools?

Which school will better prepare a student for a career in illustration, concept art and storyboarding?

Does LAAFA have as many ties to these industries as Art Center? (I'm guessing they don't) Do they have any ties for that matter? Any oppurtunities for internships?

How much focus does Art Center's illustration department put into draftsmanship and painting?

    Thanks for helping me out.

    Ben

    LAAFA Atelier Vs. Art Center

Thanks Bennigan for your questions! I don't really want to point out what's better about one school over the other. I think that both schools offer the student with a solid education.

Art Center has been around for much longer than LAAFA and does hold solid ties in the entertainment arts industry. I believe both schools focus on training competent artists well equipped in their understanding of art!

LAAFA has always been geared toward developing students who have a strong understanding of the fundamentals essential to creating substantial work. Throughout art history the greatest Illustrators and Concept artists have been well versed in the foundation skills of draftsmanship and the application of paint.

With our newly launched Atelier program were confident that we will offer students the fundamental skills necessary to work in any field of art they may choose.

    Best,

Hey Bennigan, I'm afraid I can't help you but I got a question myself too if you don't mind..

How much does the atelier program at LAAFA actually cost (can't seem to find that)? I wish I lived somewhere near.. Really thinking about moving someday cause there's really no good art education in the Netherlands.

Edit: Found it, in the application form

Can't afford it (not too surprising).

Well, to cut a long story short - I went to AC, but still after all that, I felt LAAFA would be a good place to continue my studies part time to really concentrate on drawing/painting in a traditional studio environment.
Great to see you guys start a thread in here too.

Coen - no good art education in Netherlands? Rembrandt must be spinning in his grave...
As far as cost, with the prices being what they are AC, LAAFA is a really good alternative if you want to just concentrate on foundation and bypass all the other things that the AC program would require you take.

Hehe yea Rascar Capac, I'm pretty sure Rembrandt & Friends are spinning in their graves, I never got that either.. seems like realistic art has been fading away here, unfortunately.

Compared to schools like AC ateliers offer better pricing indeed, but still it's quite alot of money (and then I'm not even thinking about the cost of moving yet)..

    Hi Matthew,
I would really appreciate it if you could post samples of student work from the atelier program. I would like to get a feel for the level of student talent. Thank you for the info.

    Hey Bennigan,

We will be starting a sketchbook thread where our Atelier students will post work as they move through the program.

He isn't teaching here again until he is finished with The Simpson's feature. After that he will hopefully be teaching quick sketch again!
