Hello! My name is Roberto Gomes, I'm a 22y old architecture student from Brazil, which works as a freelance illustrator when asked to =] I'm self-taught with traditional media like graphites, charcoal, oil pastels, nankin ink and watercolors since I was 12y old, but I began to walk on the digital world only recently...November/2009 was my 1 year birthday of digital art =]
I like to draw a lot of things...portraits, caricatures, illustrations, landscapes, and also concept designs like creatures, characters, from mechanical to organic...
I actually started a thread in the Art & Portfolio section...but I believe I started with the wrong foot =P so I'm having some guidance from some friends to get me in the right path here...I hope to have good contributions from everybody (and I hope to give some nice feedback as well) =]

    Have a nice day everybody!

Hey yall, name's Kiril and i guess i fancy meself an artist. Visual art for me is a medium to reproduce what's in my head, wether through 3D mediums or 2D mediums, hell, i'll interpretive dance that shit if i have to as long as my vision is relaid. Allthough i have to say i haven't touched traditional mediums ever sinse i figured out computers.

I have to say though, i am completely self taught, and not through tutorials either but through just messing around with software on my own. And funny that a skill level comparison was outlined on where to post my art..because..well, i'm not even sure what is my skill level anymore, and wurst of all i'm the kind of person that would not be satisfied with such a thing as "current" skill level even if i was an aclaimed professional. Actually i'm lying... I do have a sense to recognise what skill level i'm above, and whatever skill level i'm bellow is temporary. But nevertheless, there's confusion within me on what i should concentrate, what themes and styles i should put more into, what will never get me hired..etc. So this is deffinetly the site for me.

    Howdy Doody.
I'm Matthew from a little hole in the wall, Canada, and I think of making art as an escape from reality, and as an expression of life. I work in various mediums, whether it be 2d, 3d etc..always open to critiques and always looking for new ways to incorporate different mediums into my art.

I began drawing proficiently at the age of 16, working in mostly acrylics and graphite/charcoal drawings. And then I discovered the wonders of Wacom and the Intuos Tablet.

    * footnote - that last post was kind of depressing...

Anyway, looking to be helpful to anyone seeking help, or a critique since I've pretty much have the process down. And came here to improve my art making process as well, any help at all is appreciated, as I advance in my studies.

Hello! I'm Amarok, and I've been lurking around for about half a year and finally signed up. I read all the stuff on here obsessively but haven't been able to bring myself to make any posts myself.

I'm 22 and just graduated from college-not art school, but state school, studying something I'm realizing I really don't care about. I thought I could forget about any lofty art dreams, but since graduating I've realized it's still all I want to do with my life, and I can't let it go. I want to get really serious from here on out and be the best that I can even if I have no talent and can't match up to all the people learning formally or from a young age.

The contents on here are really inspiring to me, so I look forward to continuing my lurking, and hopefully typing a post myself once in a while!

I have really been too shy to show any of my drawings before but I know the best way to learn is to have those more experienced then my point out all my flaws. I am looking learn more about the fundamentals and am constantly trying to improve.

    im vikram ranu.
currently doing undergrad course in Bangalore India.
    Its a small affordable college.
I got very less friends. The reason I joined college is just because of socilization kind of factor which is absent here.
I m very weak in social skills......wants to make friends......talk about art.
some times i fear writing comments..but i want to get out of this phobia.
my drawing skills........... i started drawing since childhood.stopped in the middle due to some reason........and they mental depression.....went to mental hospital also......and then saw some of the drawings from internet......felt like i could even do like that......left main stream education. joined animation college...............now i m know as philosopher instead of mental paitent........- this lines make me happy.
Now i look to meet people of same type.....so that i learn......learn-doesnt mean only art.infact art is universal right........so infact its right to say i want to learn art.

Hi, I'm Banvivirie. I heard of this website as an alternative to DA, I was getting kind of depressed that I had decent artwork and it was constantly getting outshined by anime/furry crap.
I'm finishing up college doing illustration and biology, my hope is that when I'm all done I can go to a big city and start a career in scientific illustration. I like to draw animals and plants, especially with technical pens. I love the idea of painting, but I get shy with real canvases and expensive paints, so I tend to paint digitally...
This looks like a legit forum, I can't wait to figure things out so I can get the full experience from it.

Hey everyone, my username is Esterk, but my full name is Danny Ryba.
I actually started an account on ConceptArt.org because I really liked the idea of the Daily Sketch Group, and have posted in it a few times now. I am currently working towards a degree in graphic design, though I do a lot of recreational art. I am really trying to learn to digitally paint using Photoshop, so I hope the community here can really help me refine that art. I will probably start a sketchbook, it seems like a really cool idea.

    Thanks for the welcome thread!

    Hi!

I am a 25 year old web developer that is just trying to draw again. I was fond of drawing when I was still a kid but somehow got distracted by video games that I never drew again until now. I really like this forum because of its focus on the fundamentals and it is welcoming to newbies like me.

I have not taken any art classes and I doubt I will since I can't find any here in our area. I do believe that the internet may have all the resources I ndeed. Hope you can help me improve

Hello, the name's Zanzawolf, though sometimes go by the name manat3ch. Just turned 22 recently. A 4.5 year student of CCAD majoring in Illustration and minoring in Writing (drawing and storytelling two things I quite enjoy). An admirer of sci-fi, fantasy, furry, cartoony, and well weird art in general. A bit on the shy side so don't expect that much of me amongst the thread conversations unless it really really interest me. Pencils, pens, charcoal, and vector seem to be the only things I can say I have some decency at.

So kind of been lurking around this place for quite some time (was too self conscious to join due to all the pros and such that seem to be around...) but finally got the courage and thought finally join up. Found this place though Deviant Art by accident.

Joining this site so I can actually push to the point that I want to reach in my work that I can't seem to on my own (depression has killed my art output massively) and with the limited sources I have (teachers who seems clueless to the problem and many non-artists friends who have no problem with how I draw).

    Hello, I'm Phantasy.

I've been drawing since high school and currently work as a graphic designer. I like do to some illustrations and painting but they are mostly for myself. I'd like to get into fashion illustration, landscape and learn to be a better digital painter. I am no where near as good as many on here but I am willing to learn.

Been a while since I posted here so I figured I'd re-introduce myself

    Hi everybody.

I'm Will, and I'm somewhat new to the scene, but I've been wanting to be a concept artist/illustrator for a good 10 years now (I'm 30 by the way). Unfortunately, I've had debilitating symptoms of an undiagnosed ailment for almost 20 years of my life - flu-like symptoms on a daily basis - that have kept me from being able to maintain a reasonable amount of focus. Luckily though, I've stumbled onto a cure a year ago and I'm symptom-free! (it was a severe magnesium deficiency, and I just so happen to start taking magnesium supplements)

Basically this year I'm starting over and making a big push to be a freelance illustrator as well as getting into conceptual art for the entertainment industry. I figure I've always been sketching up concepts since I was 10, might as well do it for a living.

Education? I took an Illustration course at Sheridan College 10 years ago, then studied fine arts for 2 years at McMaster in Ontario. Over the years I've also taken night classes for sequential art, life drawing etc. I just taught myself quite a bit of ActionScript 3, designed a website for someone and I'm making Flash animations as a hobby.

    Favourite artists:
    -Alphonse Mucha
    -JW Waterhouse
    -Gustav Klimt
    -Egon Schiele
    -Bellini
    -Andrew Wilson
    -Xia Taptara
    -Andree Wallin
    -Jua Raos
    -Kekai

I'd consider myself a pretty diverse artist, and I'm able to pull off a wide range of styles from cartoon to NA comics to manga to fine art paintings.

I'm pretty good at advice and critiques, hopefully I can get some good feedback here and make a few contacts.

My current projects/jobs are a tattoo sleeve design for a client, contributing to my daily drawing blog and bulking up my portfolio.

Here's the website I made 2 weeks ago:
    http://www.freestylemakeup.com
(if anyone has a better code for the gallery I'd love some help there btw. It destroys the image quality for some reason)

Just bought my domain a week ago, I'll do the site after I have some stronger portfolio pieces:

Hello everyone! I've lurked around the edges of this site for years, but never properly joined or made a post. Well, there's a first time for everything.

I'm 18 years old, and I just applied for two universities - so far I have been accepted to York University for fine arts, still waiting for the other letter (with hopes high, of course!). I love acrylics, pencil and charcoal especially, have started to improve my watercolours, and have recently found a love for figure drawing and realism. I'm not perfect, of course, but I hope to improve!

This site and the artists have always been an inspiration to me, and always a litte intimidating in how great they are, which is why I hesitated in posting for so long.

I've already learned a lot from this site, and I hope to get feedback so I can improve my drawings. Thanks very much for reading this little blurb.

    Hi everyone,
My real name is Petra, but Tomaria is a frequent-used nickname, so you can call me whatever you want. I'm from the Netherlands, I'm a third-year art/illustration student. Actually my education is called 'illustrational design' so I have a bit graphic design too.
I've been lurking on this forum for a while (not too long though),
and I never made an introduction. Though I think nobody cares because there are so many people here. I never really participated here because I think my art isn't good enough. But I guess I can be here too, learning from others is a good thing!

My work can be found here:

Hey all, I decided to join this forum after lurking around for a while. Gotta admit, I'm kind of intimidated by all the great artists, but I know they will be the most helpful in helping my artistic journey. I'm 22 years old, took one semester of college art classes before dropping out. Currently I am traveling the west coast of the US, but I'm originally from Wisconsin. Anyway, I like art. Art is my friend.

Long time lurker, first time poster. My name is Meredith, I'm 20 years old, and I have been drawing and painting since I was 2 years old (as reported by my mother ). Lately I've been doing mostly pencil sketches and some watercolor, but I really want to start working on some complete, finished pieces.

I'm trying to evolve my art style (I.E., make it look like anything other than a poorly rendered rip off of Death Note) and I hope I can do so here. Wish me luck.

I can't believe it's taken this long for me to finally sign up for an account here.
I lurk around here from time to time, but I think now it is time for me to set up a sketchbook, start uploading art, and get some critiques. Probably should have done this a while ago, but whatever.

My name is Vito. I'm an illustration student at Northern Illinois University looking to get into the illustration business somehow. I'll be going to C2E2 next Friday and handing out portfolios. I have a lot of last minute work to get done before then. Busy, busy, busy!

    my dream........?!

hey guys right im 14 years old and my dream job would to become an concept artist for a game company.

I scanned the internet for a couple of weeks and to be honest i haven't found any core information. So can someone please tell me the different fields, salaerys and over all what i have to do? im soo confused.

to help, the subjects iv took in school are art, graphics, i-media. I originally was looking at architecture but i found out about concept art; i have a flare or drawing and designing and iv also been told that i have a great talent.

if anyone knows anything about this can you please post something, id be very very thankful.

    jack.
