    The Fallen

Hey folks, it's been a while since I last posted so I thought it was about time to finish off this sucker! Took me way too long and I regret every single moment *ahem*

Anyhow, I hope you like it, the original painting is 5000 pixels high and it was done entirely in Photoshop. If you have any other questions then feel free to pepper me with them.

    Cheers,

Jesus christ , the more I look at this, the more I noticed. It reminds me of my detailed paintings and how much work I put into them, and I can only imagine how much you put into this. This is so inspirational, since I havent painted in over 2 months for my own stuff. Thanks so much bro =)

A goat face may have been more befitting, but I digress. I like the picture overall. Good job!

man, you really know how to sell an image with the details!
    this is stunning.

the only advice i could possibly offer is to experiment a little more with the gesture.
mostly, i think distorting the head could add a lot more motion to the figure.
    here's what i'm talking about:
    shameless paintover

that's really just a matter of taste though.
this piece is top notch, and your mastery of flesh makes me jealous.
looking forward to seeing more soon.

wow. i think DS's paintover is correct, the elongated head just throws me off.. to my eye the original looks as if its been stretched out of proportion. the rendering though... MY FREAKING GOODNESS.. *dies*

    NICE

The quality of the details is outstanding! I like the different ideas you incorporated into his design as well....really strong work - your best to date I think.

    DS makes some good points.

How long did this take? The idea of painting all these details at that resolution makes my head spin.

Not too shabby... really like what DS did with it, but as everyone else has pointed out, the detail, skill and imagination at work is stunning!

yes.... that`s some mighty crazy detail work...
and the colors are great as well.

Dan did however made a good point about the head`s pose and shape.
the paintover version does have this extra something your amazing piece was missing.

    5 stars from me, friend.

Hey all, thanks for taking the time to reply - means a lot! Anyhow, I shall do my best to answer some of your crits/questions/comments.

    Golden Spiral: I guess so!

SKËTCHtheartist: Glad you like the lava arm, I've been thinking about giving the character a go in 3D just so I can have a crack at animation the lava arm

adonihs: Thank you so much for your kind comments, I did put a lot of work into it and it's great to know someone appreciates it

adam278: I can indeed, I will post it directly after I've posted this, ta for your comments!

    VashTheStampede: Cheers!

inkdrop: I'm pleased you liked the interview and I wish you all the best with your work over the coming year. It'll be great to see what you come up with

Justin Oaksford: Really? Haha, well thanks for the words of encouragement

Sleep_Eden_sleep: Hi, thanks for the suggestion, the traditional goat face was considered for a short amount of time but then I decided to just go with the flow and do my own thing. Not too sure if it worked out but it was an enjoyable experience (sort of).

Lone Wolf: Hey man, thanks for the comments, it's something I've been trying to improve recently. I value surface attributes and strive to portray them accurately so if I've pulled it off for this pic then it's a step in the right direction.

DSillustration: Hey Dan, thank you so much for taking the time to do me a paintover! It's the best form of critique (after all a picture says so much more than words alone). I totally see where you're coming from with your advice and that gestural side is something I hope to work on. I'm glad you pointed it out because quite frankly, I tend to get a bit stiff when going into all the details and I forget about some of the more important aspects (the stiff bit didn't sound right did it? ) Anyhow, I really appreciate your input, professional feedback is what makes this place so great, all the best

    stoph: Haha, cheers man

MattGamer: Wow, the honour is all mine

evidence: lol, not sure about that but thanks for the vote of confidence

Lalilulelo: No need, no neeed.. *hands over the super glue*

j a k e: Me or my painting? Anyhow.. all you need is free range eggs, and judging by your portfolio I reckon you have plenty of them (ta for the comments)

    mrgrumble: er

Mandryk: Hey man, thanks a lot for your kind words, means a lot coming from yourself. In truth, I have absolutely no idea how long this piece took to complete. I've been chipping away at it, on and off, for a few months in all probability (an hour or two here and there). I must admit, though, it got to the point where I was absolutely sick of looking at it, trying to paint details at that res is a nightmare. I detailed the head and then realised it'd look stupid if I didn't give everything else the same attention.

asoir: Cheers, I'm not sure whether it's admirable or stupid, though

    Verithin: Why thank you!

Sovica: One of the few times I'll be glad that you think something is horrible ta!

If I missed anyone out then this is just to say another big thanks to you guys for bothering to post

    (wow, way too many smilies)

    Cheers,

    John
