Goran do you use Corel?...the paint is so fresh...I use photoshop and its always so clean and predictable...

Hi William ,something with that head bother me ,if it's in the window of the metal cylinder it should have reflection of the blue light on it let's say top light ,
if the head is protruding out of the cylinder then it should have reflections on the side from that blue plasma light. The texture of the mechanical part and the
movement is great .Just my five cents. Cheers .

goran - Thanks! I'm not entirely sure I understand what you're saying about the blue light, but I do agree that it's not as readable and solid as I wish it were. Both my technique and my vision were pretty confused, and a shaky pic was the result. Glad you like the textures, those went alright... It's well that I'm continuing to dabble with the brushes somewhat.

Crustacean - The feeling of a solid, weighty, metal body is very tangible to me in your pic. So, too, is the sense that this guy has definite ideas about where he is going. He reminds me of a bulldog patrolling the yard... He hasn't heard any intruder, but he's at a grumpy readiness. Great job.

Gidz - Lovin' the bike part of this.

Mitze - I think you understood the topic perfectly. Good one. I'm partial to the mechanical leg area... Good sense of depth and form.

goran, again - A very cool pic from you today... Great colours and textures. The red-tinged round thing on the front totally makes this piece.

dan liimatta - Great face and chunky hand! I wonder if using some cool colours for the shadowed areas might not have popped this a lot more? The vertical line that's set up between the arm and the leg bugs me... Gotta watch that. Cool character.

Trashy - Very amusing. Good shapes and contrast. Structure's sorta confusing.

Supialoctopod - Maybe quick, but rather groovy. I dig it.

Filter - I think we were on the same wavelength. Not only by orienting the face low on a vertical barrel shape, but with regards to the feeding tube. I imagined that my guy would kinduv hunker down, with his back to us, and depressingly gain nourishment from some filthy straw plunged into something horrible. I love the expression on his face, and the little robotic limbs. Background's like a carpet, and barrel's a bit disappointing. Good job.

burrito - Hmm... Sorta hard to read this. Instead of the giant profile face, I wish we could see his legs or whatever. Good face, but this composition's kind rough.

Charcoal - Cool body shape. I wish you'd thrown in some asymmetry... I wonder if maybe the tubes/cables would've worked better for you if you'd fleshed them out with a dark paint and then highlighted them, rather than trying to describe them with line and then doing your best to shade in around them? Just an idea.

I love the bulky concept & the man truely look miserable

All in all it really makes me miss my old texture brushes (I cleaned hose recently and are slowly remaking them).

As for your feedback, I thank thee - and I've made a fast revision to it and I'm currently divided; given that I did see it clearly before, which is no surprise considering that I drew it, and have taken heart in the old rusty red ~ I'll let loose the revised version for now.

Good design, though I somewhat agree, especially since William pointed it out, that the perfect symmetry is somewhat disturbing.

goran - Hmm... Those paint-overs're kinda tiny... maybe it'd help if you just cropped the face area? That said, I think I see what you're getting at and I agree that further work on communicating the orientation of the face, as well as the structure around it, would've been smart on my part. Good crit.

dan liimatta - Thanks, dan! Don't worry, you'll make even more kickass brushes than before! And when you do, you should save them in a file so that "cleaning house" in the future need not be so brutal. As for your revised version... I absolutely prefer it. My feeling is that the colour contrast helps pop the forms forward (whereas the original had a very flat and muddy look), and also that the variation in colour gives us a context by which to judge the pasty paleness of the organic bits. I should probably mention that I do miss the nice greasy highlights you had on the original's face.

Anyway fixed, as it was never my intention to remove them - saying some on how sloppy that revision of mine was

As for the brushes, I have all the old saved - I just got to a point where I had so many various brushes that I would spend as much time looking for what brush to use, as if I had made a new one. Besides I wanted to break free from the usual routine by throwing them out. Then I made 2 for this piece and 5 for the serpent so I'm probably crawling in them again soon

Thanks for the input guys. I really did make it perfectly symetrical by mirroring one half of the drawing over. Not quite the effect I was going for though. I'll play around with the shape a little bit and see what I can do. The rendering of the wire makes total sense too. I knew there was probably a more effective way to go about that.
