you really have some confident brushstrokes firstly they are quite impressive but on second thought they come along rather messy and a bit too rough for my tase... mybe you should try to bring in some more controll and keep an eye on the textures... I know this is a sb and stuff in here is not suposed to be finished... hehehehe

however this is good stuff in here and I'll keep watching your progress

Woo! Love those enviros, dude. How long did it take you to make one? Looks like it was a speedpaint. I wish I can paint enviros like this, seriously. Did you channel yourself some Bumskee? It has that same epic feel, which I think is awesome.

Also your painting, it has a great illustrative style. no crits ;-) i mean i like giving constructive critisism, and sometimes i look at a sb and know right away what to say, but on yours i'll just go with a "keep up, man"

Dude I'm pretty impressed with your experimentation with your brushes in your landscape studies - its like a step further than I was willing to take mine...how long do you spend on each one approximately? are you able to paint these without color sampling or do you like to double check your color choices a lot? great

()nion- Hello there I'm studying from a single photograph for most of the studies. The key thing I'm trying to get from these studies is value and color so I'm not aiming for all the details. I'd say the paintings are a alot looser then the actual photos. Hope that sorta answers your question. thanks man.
lilou- Thanks lilou. Yeah, these are sorta on the loose end of the spectrum. I'll continue to tighten up these pieces for sure as I progress.

lukavi-Great to hear from you man. Yeah most I guess I would pit in the speed paint area. Most ranged from 1-2 hours at most or less. sometimes they do vary though. Dunno, sometimes I can nail it down fast...other times not so much. Definitely channeling some Bumskee and Idiot Apathy. I love those dudes. Well, been away for a tiny bit. College started again so I sorta had to get into the swing of that again. I think I'm rebounding now though so I can get back into a painting frenzy. Only got one little update for now but I'm gonna

Reminds me of this one UFO video I saw on youtube... these people were in an elevator looking over a city and it was zooming around right in front of them. Way intense. Hahaha.

so slick work, trashy. love the clouds and water painting. very vibrant sky! I just felt that the water could use a little bit more color, maybe. would't it reflect a bit more color of the sky at least?
and sky train turned out great. looks like it was right up your alley with all those sexy clouds and futuristic glowy lights everywhere.

@staticpen- Thank you sir. Man they have some really rad UFO videos. They had a video that I think was shot pretty close to Tucson that had these huge triangle shaped lights appearing over a city. I need to get that tin foil hat over my head again and buy some jugs of water

@monotony Thanks man and your right about that water. Couple weird things going in it. I had to step away from it for awhile to really see that stuff now. I used roughly four brushes. If there is one thing I do like about Tucson it is the sun settings. We get alot of cool cloud formations here so I take photos often for inspiration. Look up some Maxfield Parrish for cool cloud paintings...guy is damn amazing. Dude is one of my number one sources for inspiration right now.

So back from alittle hiatus. Got swept into the whirlwind of politics this election and that evil school...well okay it's not evil I just like saying that anyway. Anywho just been doodling alot. Starting to ramp up some work again and get back into alot of activities here and over at cghub.

I've been in a thumbnail mood lately. Doing those long studies just brought me down. I like being fast and just banging out quick ideas. So I planning on doing far more of these especially the ship and environments. The stronger thumbs I'll then do more full blown illustrations. I plan on doing three illustrations from this batch of thumbs. Any thoughts on what stands out to you guys I would appreciate.




Here is a quick environment thing I did. This is actually part of my business card I working on. This appears on the backside of it.



This is another portrait piece I wanted to work on. I'm still sorta trying to work out my progress for these kind of pieces. I think I'm getting alittle better at it but one of friends did point I tend to paint things flat when it comes to faces. There is sometimes points were I think I get sloppy when building up the face...so still learning my process. Anyway leanred alot again from this.

So...college semester is OVER....*woop*...hey and it's almost Christmas!!!...*double woop*

Anyway I'm going to be real happy with graduating out of there next spring. I really need to move on and get the hell out there and start doing what I really enjoy doing most. So I gave it some thought and decided to really start honing my works even more into environments.......I absolutely love doing this stuff. Got some industrial stuff underway also.

So another update today from me. I think this is a step up for me alittle bit. I struggled doing really industrial cities with all those lights for quite awhile. I always got frustrated on how the heck I was going to do all those buildings and flying ships of traffic. Anywho let me know what you guys think.

@staticpen- Hey man good to hear from you and see you back here. Daniel Cacouault work is pretty sweet...I bookmarked his page. The lights are pretty easy actually. I'll get a small tut together for that. Basically I block in the building shape first and in a new layer I draw lines over the building and take the eraser tool and erase parts of the lines to make them look like lights...erm sorta in a nutshell there.
