    Gal in the Woods

Here's one of my first digital paintings. It was really fun but I had the damndest time with the girl. For some reason she didn't turn out how I wanted her too. Whatever. Life goes on.

Hey, woo! This is NICE in the thumbnail view. It really caught my eye, real nice color work, especially as it's a near-complement color scheme with the yellow-green, it sets off the girl's dress quite nicely. The atmospheric perspective of the trees is working well, too. Having something that works in thumbnail is really good, because a lot of times people get so wrapped up in detail they forget to step back, and when they do. . . poof. the image vanishes. That didn't happen here, and props to you for that. You've got good contrast. Good darks up front that fade towards the back.

Negative comments--too much soft airbrushy stuff, and the forest behind the girl turns into a solid yellow. Get a hard-edged brush and work some more texture in there, maybe work on giving the girl a more definite light source. Get some reference for the grass and the bark and the girl and study it closely. Really I think that's the main issue. Sink some more time into this and you'll have a real bang-up piece, good going. --There's a bit of a tangent being formed on the left edge of the image with the broken branch off the tree, but if you just extend that bit some more it becomes a non-issue. Nice piece.
