Davi's Dailys - Creature Design in Corel Painter

Got some great designs here, davi, that new knight's looking pretty slick! I'm obviously no expert on this, but have you tried giving the helmet a similar design to the chest plate and bracer? I really like how the yellow lines give it that sleek look that sweeps the eye across the figure, down the daggers and cloth, etc, and can't help wondering how it would look on the helmet as well.

... i really don't get why everyone is looking for illustrative shit out of designs and it's starting to bug me quite a bit...

These character designs are suppose to be just that, character DESIGNS, and are specifically focusing on getting design across.

am i wrong or do character designs need to be fully illustrated paintings?

hey I`m with you on this one , Davi dude.
this is what`s keeping me from joining the last 40-50 CHOWs actually.
character design needs to be all about.. well... character design...
full blown Illus are awesome. yeah. but if the focus is shifted from what your character is all about... I believe it`s somewhat counterproductive.

Thank's chuck, that really cheered me up a little to know I'm not alone on there. This forum has a lot of illustration and fine art interlaced and often over-laying design, and I love it for that, but it seems a lot of people are just looking for the most shiny painting ever out of everything.

oh well, here is a scout, part of the other 2's design. I'm probably going to touch this up later, so let me know if you see any major problems; Just wanted to post it now so i can show someone at work in the morning

haven't been here in a while =]. Awesome stuff davi I like the look of this last one.

I'll be a little nit picky because i can't really find much wrong.

The hood on his head seems a little akward, because it looks as though the point that makes contact with the top of the head, isn't actually making contact. Or the head seems mis-shapen because of it. Granted I don't know the shape of the head, it looks like a human skull.

I like the new color scheme WAY better! That texture is pretty bad ass, too. I agree with Oki that the hood seems like it's sitting a bit high off the head. I think it would be nice to see some of that yellow-green color in the shadows around his right hand/torso.

ah i misunderstood what he meant, now i get it... yah i can fix that... but right now im at the point where im sick of uploading the image 15 times every time i see a single texture scribble i don't like :/

now im just going to freak out with painter11 and come up with something nifty maybe.

I wish I knew how to use Painter 11. Looks like you're getting the hang of it just fine, good sir. It's a little dark on my monitor but it's probably because my monitor sucks. Digging all the texture you're getting out of the brushes and such. Nice work, man.

I like the additions to the watch tower. The little guy puts the thing in perspective, size-wise. That fish thing is awesome, too! You might want to add some more murky particles, though; most of the deep sea photos I've seen are pretty cloudy.

trying to come up with a fantasy world that is slightly based on Persia, military uniforms, fantasy, and ww1/2 rifle technology for their ranged weapons..

yeah it's a mouth full and probably a cluster fuck and I'll probably abandon some of those elements the further i go with these ideas.
