    James Stanton~

    James Stanton~
The year is 1875. After the Civil War ended, the Union marksman, tracker and scout was out of a job. The only suitable job left for men in Stanton's position was bountyhunting... after all, hunting men is what he does best. Armed with two Army issue Colt 45 Peacemakers, and an 1873 Winchester Deluxe Lever Action Short Rifle, James Stanton hunts down the baddest of the bad. The lowest, most dangerous scum of the earth that prey on helpless caravans, killing the men then raping and selling the women for ammunition and cheap whiskey. Stanton has no tollerance for this kind of lifestyle, having lost his wife and daughter to simillar brigands. Now, after 5 years, he has made a name for himself as the fastest gunslinger from Missouri to the Rio Grande. Outlaws beware! Stanton aims to send them to meet their maker via the bullet train express!!

Yeah, that's my topic. Not sure if I'll have to time to do anything anytime soon, but hopefully people have fun with it. Peace!!

    ~daniel

    Awesome! I'm in!

WIP #1 - He will be standing on a rock kinda on a cliff, well at least that is my vision of what he will be doing.
WIP #2 1/14/07 - Still working on it, just blocking in colors at this point. Trying to meet the deadline. I am still learning to paint with PS so I can't say that I have a process down yet. For example I know of the color and multiply layers but I do not yet know how best to use them. If anyone has any insight into those layer settings it would be helpful. I do these weeklies so that I can learn, and I learn a lot by looking at you guy's works. Thanks.

1/15/07 - Well I will finish this one, but I couldn't make the CHOW deadline. Still a good learning experience though. There are some great entries for this CHOW.

I started sketching some stuff, haven't done this since my first one like last march. Tried a couple times but never even got finished but hopefully i'll be able to pull this one off. I have been checking out the posts from time to time though....

here you go, i'm probably gonna go with the last one ....my final will most likely be just a ink drawing

i'm gonna attempt to incoporate the actual jacket from an officers uniform, sorta give him a tie to the past he can't let it go, Sense of justice all that crap..lol...

i'm on a widescreen now so i'm not sure if this is too small to view though let me know if it should be a larger file ect....

well strap me down and call me lucy!

Whipcord thin James Stanton strolls in to town. Wearing parts of his old uniform (faded blue jacket and a couple of buckles) and still wearing his medal of honor he is quite the character. Wearing one holster tied down and one hanging loosely on his hip,he certainly looks like a gunslinger. Stanton doesnt do hats, he likes wicked men to see the cold hatred in his eyes before he takes 'em out. Law abidin' God fearin' citizens have nuthin to worry about, but the lawless and vice ridden desperados better turn their guns on themselves rather than risk Stantons fury .

So far, Mr-Nick has my vote.

That pose totally captures the manga-cowboy feel I liked from Gazelle of Trigun.
Kudos. Hope to churn out something soon myself.

    Edit: Updated my Final.

Ah...mine's just a bit late...some good painting practice...I have so much to learn. Feel like I lost something from my original character design by trying to make it all dramatic. Meh. Rushed, hence the sloppy. Next time I'll start earlier!

    Wow...you guys are good.

Hi Folks. Here's my share for this topic.

~I thought I'd make him old and kinda push the idea that he's obsessed. He served in the civil war, probably earned a couple of medals there and is now in retirement with enough money from the army to keep him fat and happy for life... But he still chooses to do the job. Simple love for the work, or vengeful obsession? The latter is more interesting. And it's a good reason to put some bloody textures behind him

    and a few roughs:

I wanted to play around with the idea of a cowboy that was a really shnazzy dresser, like he doesn't like to get dirty when he does his "work."

Fedezz, I really enjoy yours, the colors work really well together and that hat is just fun.

cakeypig: Why is his face purple? Nice picture though - just can't warm up to the crazy skin color.

Ashab Excellent pose and attitude!!! Had you rendered him just a [I]little[I] more, I would have given you my vote!

D-Baker Also very cool pose. But yours also lacks detail.
B-Nine Nice picture - BUT, arms are way too long and his hands, guns and feet are enormous...

It came down to ahbeejieh, Phuzion and fedezz. Man, tough one. I just decided, after looking at all three again - fedezz gets my vote! That background is so goofy and makes me smile (since it's not ment to be real carnage - it's just silly - I hope it's alright for me to enjoy this kind of black humor). Phuzion though came ultra-close to getting my vote - excellent clear execution!
