BATTLE TD!!! draw yourself fighting your opponent (details inside)

OK, me and Frank Wade came up with this. Basically each person draws a bg and then draws themself as some kind of anime ninja (we started the conversation as a joke about Naruto ninjas training) doing your "move".

For instance I would draw a bg and put my character throwing a weapon or throwing some kind of lame chi orb or something. Then, you trade off with your partner, who draws in their character throwing some crap back at you or whatever. The person who had the better "fight" wins! The bg could be really basic, of course.

Hopefully that made sense...anyways dunno if anyone would be interested, just throwing it out there.

This would probably have a large deadline as it requires drawing two characters.

    RULES:
    - our character has to resemble ourselves
    - first month: each participant draw a character base on themselves, with background
    - 2nd month: swap with opponent, draw your own character again on the opponent's piece...but obviously you wouldn't draw it the same...most likely even if you decide to draw the same "move", the way the other character is facing would force you to at least change directions. make sense?

    QUESTIONS (READDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDD):
-Do we have to be a ninja? I'd love pirates, wizard and pole dancers in there?
A: No you can draw anything. Like I said this just started as a conversation about ninjas. ^^ BUT IT MUST RESEMBLE YOU. I don't think we'll check, but come on...i don't want everyone just drawing some stereotypical "marko" character or something.

-Do we pick our opponent after the first month? Just in case some people got things in the way and won't be able to make it after signing up.
A: Yeah, I think we'll do it that way, but just remember that you should have a good idea of whether you'll even get a partner or not. It'd be sad to make a badass piece and have a lonely character fighting nothing inside

-Does the background have to be really neat?
A: Well, I think doing some lineart and coloring it would be fine, just make sure the whole thing blends together nicely. THE POINT IS TO MAKE A PICTURE WHOSE BG AND BOTH CHARACTERS ALL BLEND TOGETHER. which brings me to my next point...

-Does my character have to match the style of the other character?
A: It's relatively under your jurisdiction, but please don't just copy and paste your pencil drawing into their digital piece or vice versa. It'd be nice to have it all working together.

-Do I have to draw my whole character? Can't I just draw like, a really cool eye?
A: @#(*#*@*(#@ try to draw the whole char! If it's because of foreshortening, fine, but try not to cut anything out. If you want to do a selfportrait of your face, do it, but not here.
    -----------------------

the red part would be where person #2 drew on the switched drawing. and person #1 would draw a char on person#2's drawing.

And how do we go about drawing the other person? I mean we do draw both people in the piece, right?

haha YES DRAW A POLE DANCER. i'm actually drawing myself as some kind of non-ninja char, so yeah you can draw anything =P but please do try to draw yourself, i don't want everyone just drawing some stereotypical "marko" character or something.

i think a good deadline would be a month for your own drawing, and then a month for the switchoff.

let me get the rules straight:
    - our character has to resemble ourselves
    - first month: each participant draw a character base on themselves, with background
    - 2nd month: swap with opponent, draw your own character again on the opponent's piece?

    or
    - 1st month: a picture served as profile for yourself
    - 2nd month: choose your opponent, do a brand new drawing with both you and your opponent?

of course it was just an idea...of course we are free to change it up

and maybe more than 2 months, it seems like a large project?

I like that idea. I think 2 month is enough, cause people tend to forget about it if it's dragged out too long.

I'm going to try a crazy perspective and drive my opponent nuts when they have to draw their character on my piece. BWAHAHAHAHAHHAHA!!!! (if i can pull that off)

Do we pick our opponent after the first month? Just in case some people got things in the way and won't be able to make it after signing up.

yeah i think that makes sense. just remember that you should try to make sure there is someone else for you to pair up with anyways though... don't want to make a great image and have no one there.

This is going to be fun. I think we should also try to emulate the other person's style on the 2nd part, so it's both a challenge for us to get out of our comfort zone, as well as trying to make the overall image look consistant. (I probalby will regret saying this)

sounds cool. trying to match styles with another persons work seems like a challenge, esp if people are gonna do environments.

i agree about the matching styles...it's important to be able to try to fit your chars in with an environment....btw remember your bg can be basic...don't overlook it. it can be a simple lineart with multiply layer-coloring.

    kind of like this:

    i wouldn't call that a basic background...
so does the opponent wait for me to finish my drawing?
or do they do their own drawing 1st then we later swap and draw in each others'?

yeah read the part in my post about the 3 rules

1 month for you to do your part, one month for you to switch and draw your part.

it's hard to say how they will be graded, but a bigger explosion doesn't mean a better picture all in all hopefully most everyone will come up with a fun picture together.

and i don't mean to say draw a bg like bengals, so complicated, but rather that you can just color some lineart in that style and it'd be sufficient. you don't have to render out photorealistic bottles and crap.

edit: ORRRRR we can do it as collabs and vote for whole pictures against each other. like me+frank wade vs. look +invinciblewombat?

This T'dome sounds like it would be pretty cool. I don't know how much time I can square away just yet for it. I'll check back when some more people get in on it and the deadline gets more solid. Cool idea for a challange.

i Say we paint simple lineart + multiply colorjob pieces with your character
in focus, and beneath the painting you emote the battle as i goes on...

    Like:
"...And then he makes a quick left turn with his foot up high, swinging it for
Someone's** head with tremendous force, in hope to knock him out cold
    with just one blow."

And just make sure you make room for the other to react.
    How does that sound?

I think however complicated the piece is should be up to you and your opponent. You both can talk to each other on how detailed you want everything to be.

I think the lil caption on the bottom would definitely help.

And please be nice to your opponent, although I said it won't necessarily be graded on who "made the bigger explosion," don't like put your character on the other side...not facing him...unless you can make it work (i dunno, like you teleported or something...or have clones, or whatever). well whatever. i don't know. the point of this is to have fun, so do whatever the hell you want. just abide by my rules on the first post. for all i care you could put a giant bear trap next to your opponent.

i was thinking something more along the lines of this, wolfbane. most people probabl don't have that much time to draw and redraw their char?

the red part would be where person #2 drew on the switched drawing. and person #1 would draw a char on person#2's drawing.

Sounds like fun. I'm in, but how do we match up with a partner/opponent? Do you just PM them and say "you wanna team up?" or do we get assigned or what?

I always wanted to design a ninja version of myself that would kick but in the naruto world.

hehehe yay for naruto! i still might do a ninja from it even though it's sucked but the manga is good! anyhoo, i think how it's going to work is you do your own drawing first, and pm someone to pair up. or we can assign it. it's hard to say. either way i think ppl are bound to drop out, so try to get someone you can badger into finishing their part

It dosen't matter what you draw, Frank Wade's just going to put his boner through your head.
