    =Tang Lung's pointless art=

    Hey guys.

I've become somewhat disillusioned with my art skills (or lack of rather ), and I think I've been losing motivation. So I figured this was a good a time as any just to bite the bullet and start a sketchbook here!

I've made a resolution to draw everyday, as much as possible, so hopefully I'll update a lot. Just digital stuff for the now though, since I don't have a scanner or camera. Don't hold back on the crits, I'm here to improve

I never realized it looked like skeletor haha

Didn't do much digi stuff over Christmas, just sketches, but now that's over I should get back into the digi studies now.

    Thank you Anthriel

Some torso poses from imagination. Bottom right pose was messed up from the start, but rather than salvage it I thought I might as well keep it there as a reminder of my failure

Hey not to bad at all Tangey, good start! If you still have problems with inspiration this site will definetly turn it 'round. Take a look through the FF section n your good to go! Hey check these sites out too! http://jonfoster.com/ http://ashleywoodartist.com/ http://www.allenspiegelfinearts.com/hale.html good stuff indeed. I like the latest pic of yours, the lighting looks good, though some shapes look of. Good work though, an upswing. Keep up the goodness.
Father Christmas will mess you up.

Orifice - Wow! Excellent websites, they're really inspiring, thanks. The FF section has a way of inspiring and depressing me all at the same time

    GeeWesley - Thank you

I found I was growing to hate how 'clean' I made all my colour work look, It's not really the style I'm trying to go for (I'm really inspired by Niklas Jansson's style, but I don't have the skill to pull it off the way he does without making it look cartoony). So I wanted to try and work with darker values and a more detailed approach, which is what this is a WIP of.

great that you have started a sketchbook, and are putting forth the effort to do some studies!

however, it looks like most is from imagination. and what is from imagination really shows what you don't quite understand.. hands, feet, knees - I suggest definitely sitting down with an anatomy book and copying the BONES underneath! Those areas (hands, feet, etc.. and the head too!) are just skin over bones - not a whole lot of muscle and fat (generally speaking). So if you understand what is going on underneath, you will have an easier time dealing with the surface.

and draw them over, and over, and over.. and over again! At least start with front, back, left and right.

    keep it up!

Coo', just make sure you are using reference. Why do just a value study (Still lives are better) when you can do a nice polished anatomy/proportion/value study?
