Hi my name is Rossouw, i am 16 years old and i live in Tring, near watford in England. My family is highly artistic, and i would like carry on the trend, i have recently taken a keen interest in my drawing skills (or lack there of) and stumbled accross this site while looking at the brilliant art of Jason Chan, i was amazed by the helpful and nurishing community that is the base of this website.

I would be very grateful if you could tell me anything i am doing wrong, and try to steer me in the right direction, although i have ofcourse drawn before, this is the first time ive tried to conciously improve, so bare with my crappy (for lack of a better word) drawing ability.

I will atempt to draw at least once or twice a day from now on.

excuse my inadequence, but i fail to grasp the method by which one attaches pictures, to make my pictures eligable for the attachment it must be made rediculesly small, am i doing somethign wrong? my pictures arn't that big, about as big as any other picture on the forum.. how can you guys get your pictures to be nbig and detailed with the filesize restriction??

If you really can't get the image attatchment manager to work, upload it on some other site like http://www.photobucket.com (you will have to make a free account) and use the insert image button in the reply box. Once you click that you just paste a direct link to the image. However its very unusual that the attatchment manager isn't working. It always works with me.

No register, no hassle, just upload it and it will show up three links afterwards. You choose the one that says "bulletin boards/forums" and copy&paste that code into your post. And hit " Submit Reply"

the manager is working, its just that the size that the image has to be is like 244.1KB and to make my image that small i either have to make it smaller than a thumbnail or i have to decrese the image quality so much that you cant see it anyway, ill try fiddle with my images again, see what i can do, but thanks for the help guys.

Rock and roll, bro. Really great stuff, it's a good beginning. The drawing of that lamp base is really nice, I would try and get more contrast going into the drawing though, when you work on things for a long time you tend to forget to look at the drawing as a whole. Try squinting your eyes to see where the big dark and light shapes are when your looking at a subject.

Great drawing from V for Vendetta, really great use of detail, it looks very rich. The ipod looks good too, again I think you could sharpen up some of the details.
Try to not draw too many lines when you just need to draw one. Try and draw the line you want with just one stroke, it might not seem helpful at first but the more you do it the better it gets.

Thanks Savi. Sorry i havnrt posted in a while, im still drawing though, just not as much, ive been revising like mad you see, exams start tomorow =/ wish me luck.

Yey, ok, exams are over now, and went alright, but now i can focus on the really important stuff drawing.

Over christmas im starting my anatomy study, got a few nice books from my brother and gonna be working through them over the next weeks / months.

Nice start with studying the figure. One thing I want to definitely suggest is getting a bigger sketchbook *_*;; ... it looks like your figures are fighting to fit into the page. That or let some body parts flow off of the page!

Hey. i like the way you did your work , i think you know HOW to draw things but on the way from your head to your paper there you missed one or two things...

but nevertheless.. looks nice.. try to use more shadings with pencil around 4 - 8 b

Hey dude, you have still a long way to walk, but I bet that I wasn´t working as hard as you do when I was your age. I´m sure you´ll get better than I´m now, and probably in a not so far future.

I don´t see any inner lines in your drawings, so I guess you draw from the outside, focusing on the shape of the object. If I´m right, you should forget about it and start to seriously analize what lies "inside" the object or body you´re drawing. Reduce it to coordenades, points and lines in space, and then start to render it slowly, understanding the structure of what you´re analazing.

heres some new stuff, but i havrnt been drawing much, i got my first exams in about 3 weeks, so im revisng right now, and not got much time for drawing, but after that ill have lots of time to do lots of thing, hopefully one of them will be drawing

I like the hand studies. I would suggest working on shading, pushing the values, light and dark.

Hey guys, ive been a bit bogged down with exams and stuff, so i havrnt drawn much but ive had an apifony(sp?) lol i rememebr that back in the day when i struggled to draw stick men i really like steampunk stuff (i only recently learnt it was called so.. :o) stuff in the style of the leage of extra ordinary gentlemen.. but the problem is not a lack of enthusiams.. but a lack of inspiration, ia lways struggle to come up with concepts for pictures.. anyone got any techniques that might coem in handy? or ideas for steampunk pictures??

For inspiration I suggest you look through the best thread-section here at CA. Also look through other peoples sb's. I myself find a lot of inspiration in music, actually. Keep up the good work, i hope you'll get inspired soon!
