Darktwin: Thanks a lot for your visit and nice words. I'm struggling with the actual learning-parts of the learning-process, but I'm slowly realizing it's really worth it. Drawing from my fat anatomy book hasn't kept me motivated tho, I need some life drawing classes! Or maybe pay a hooker to pose for me *drifts off*

Nivec: Happy to hear you like the mood. Complementary contrast is the most powerful contrast to me, it works every time and you have a lot of possibilities.

Some mere form/light/color-studying. It went terribly wrong for the first two, and now looking at the bottom ones, I realize they're green, not golden. Uhm...

Ok, here's a girlie. Reffed the lines (badly) and had the values as a rough cut. Then I went with a tutorial about skintones posted on IRC (I guess it was a painter tut though), that's why I named the mixers. Something went wrong tho, I couldn't get the neck and throat area to look right and all I got was this rash-looking purple. Quite happy with the facial colors though. The eyes look wrong tho.

hey, it's nice to see you doing some figures and characters. you've got some really great environments, but it's good to broaden out like you are.

when looking at the faces, i just assumed it was your style to set the eyes farther apart than in real life. if not, that's probably what makes them look off. for example, with this last one, you drew the face straight on, where as the girl's head is actually tilted to the camera and shows more of the side of her head next to the left eye. it might help to draw the head as a 3d shape and place a contour line down the center and across the eyes/nose/mouth at the beginning. hope that helps

Alright, here's an update. The first one is latest, and it was quite a pleasure to see the results of constructing and working from rough to fine. Clean version will follow, then I'll color it. As you can see in the pic with the colored "shemale", I still don't get skin colors, or realistic colors in general. Sucks.

Oh yeah, I've been doing lots of analog-sketching too. Nothing worth showing tho, I find the boundaries of a sheet of paper very limiting

EDIT: As the kind of equipment- I am, and out of boredom just before bedtime, here are my core tools. Most of them collected and inherited from my father and grandfather (first being a graphic designer just as I am, latter a late artist - he made beautiful water color paintings). The yellow LYRA pencil is the latest addition to the collection. Like every piece of high-quality equipment, it isn't manufactured anymore

So I'll try to have as much fun with it as I can. Never had a better pencil. Awesome feeling and flow. Not on the photo are various copics and other markers. I don't use markers too often anyway.

Oh, and yes, I know I should be drawing instead. And I know that these tools won't a) make my penis larger and more importantly b) make my art better. But I love my tools.

You're a constant source of motivation. Thank you so much. I'm actually lazy as hell. One pic a day, after that I most often watch TV, browse youtube or read. But I know motivation increases with your skills. And I feel a lot more comfortable working on pictures than a few months ago.

About the electric eraser: Yeah it's F*CKING EXPENSIVE, but I barely use other erasers since I have it. Just make sure to buy additional eraser nibs, there are only 5 in the package.

About the Wacom Art Marker: Hehe, I bought it after reading ChuckWadey's COW63 tutorial and asked him what it's like. He said something along the lines of "It's cool, but I don't use it as often as I thought when I got it." Same here. It's a nice tool and the rotation aspect is really nice in some cases, but I just don't use it as often as the Grip Pen. It's too light-weight (about 1/3 of the Grip Pen and a lot shorter) and has no rubber grip. But that's not the point. The point is you just don't HAVE TO use it often enough. So you stick with the Grip Pen most of the time.

Danke. Ich bin mit der Dame eigentlich ganz zufrieden, aber der Typ sieht aus wie eine geschnitzte Holzfigur. Total steif. Außerdem ist die Perspektive natürlich total off und die Anatomie stimmt nicht. Cool finde ich im Nachhinein die Farben.
Wegen Wols werde ich mal schauen. Bin kein Kunstkenner, daher sagt mir das jetzt auf den ersten Blick nichts.

Stress and the antidote have kept me from making anything special in the last week. I wasn't even able to visit the forums regularly, so I can't blame it on CAorg. So, here's some random junk. All Painter, I'm beginning to like it, especially for sketching lines. It's easier to sketch and feels more natural. Again I had problems with colored pieces. Painter keeps messing with my colors and won't let me paint the colors I want. Instead it always uses the paint of the point where I begin painting. Weird and really annoying.

Thanks, m0uS3r (< I tried to type the nick and almost broke my fingers). I have the rotrings now and almost exclusively draw with them. I'll update the tools-picture as soon as I can.

HELP!
I've been thinking my brains out as to what portable painting device I should get lately. I was a modbook-disciple since the day it was announced, but I've reconsidered. So maybe you guys can help me.

What I have right now is an old Apple Cinema Display which works fine for it's age. And an A5 ( 6x8 ) tablet.

Option No.1 is:
Modbook. It would cost me 1780 euros. I think the only two reasons for a modbook are:
- painting directly onto the screen
- getting laid

Option No.2 is:
MacBook 13" black (1450) and WACOM graphire A6 (100) for the portables
and
Sell my Int3 A5 (will sell for about 200) and get an Int3 A5wide/6x11 (330) for use at home
Total: 1680 euros

I don't know. Anyone here with experience carrying around a laptop AND a tablet? I always have a robust messenger bag with me and the stuff would fit in there.

... and a piece of graphic design I've been working on some hours last week. It's what some people would call a WIP.

... and another one that first was in the above, bigger piece. It didn't fit in there stylistically and got it's own stage.

Tomorrow I have to go on a canoe-trip with some of the kids of my school. I'm actually looking forward to it, I haven't been canoing for years. But with 8 difficult kids on the river? So if I'm not back until tomorrow evening, you know I drowned.

Here's a midnight portrait-pooper. It will probably look absolutely wrong when I look at it the next time. Anyways, it was fun. How do I make the eyes look more male and serious? These guys always look like they're near to sleeping in.

About the rotrings: I wish I had a black one, the metallic one really hurts your eyes when you're painting in bright sunlight. I don't use the other pencils now I got the rotrings. Hope they make it to 2060 when I retire.

Woah,your enviros are sooo cool!!

You are in the right way with faces,just keep an eye on proportions!Do a lot of studies before paint portraits,because these use to be very frustrating,so it´s better to draw from imagination....and maybe strange faces or comic faces instead of realistic faces,is more fun and better for practise in my opinion!
