Last one I can put up for a week or so. Va-k-she-on time![]()
Nice ones! I esp. like the two guys at the bottom, they look like they mean serious business :o
Hehe have a nice vahk-sheeh-ohn and bring some art back for us starving artists to feed upon.
Thx red button
Not much time today to really get into it. Nto too pleased with this sketch....rushed it a bit.
I think I'm done with the Batman DVD....

WIP....a sketch and speed paint combo

Alright, I'm done with this sketch.....moving on:
Who doesn't like Bruce....
Hey, thanks for the commentary. Constructive crits are much appreciated.
I like the dynamic action pose in your Thursday post, rendering forms in space is always a challenge. Looks like you might have some proportion issues between heads and bodies tho. Also, how hard of a pencil tip are you using? I always found the lack of range contrast frustrating in your typical Number Two pencil lead.

COOL STUFF what did yuou draw the early stuff on, it is a weird texture to draw on?

Bludhund:
I think I do have proportion issues....it really shows up when the characters a dynamically posed....working on it. I use a #2 pencil AND I'm a lefty.....so I smudge that soft lead like ah' sunuvabich. Thanx
Evxyza92:
All the sketches are done on newsprint. It maybe the way I play with the brightness and contrast in photoshop. Thanx
like the new stuff. Still on news print paper?

These are some pretty fun sketches brother.
I like the streetfighter 2 type fight scenes. And the Bruce Lee.
Always dig the Bruce Lee.
I think you might just want to use the Level adjustments in Photoshop on your pencils. The same kind of washed out effect happens with my pencils, as my scanner is shite. You can even just use the auto level function sometimes too.
Check your messages, I sent you a PM.
max:.
Evxyza92:
All newsprint![]()
Max:
Got your message....I messed with the level adjustment option a little more this time around. Ya, you gotta love bruce lee. Thx

Hi ho, welcome to the SSG.
Is the latest digital painting in original size? If so, that's amazing.
Sketching from film seems like a good thing for practicing facial expressions.
You seem to be running well now, keep up the steam![]()
Echo on the welcome.
That mini digital portrait on the left side is pretty tight.
Go with that :.
Seer:
Thx much.... the painting is actual size. I was able to use PS7 to zoom in and out of course. Hopefully I will be able to knock out a sketch or two everyday.
Max:
Thx....I think I will continue to play with digital painting. I have a personal project in work now. Hopefully by the time it is ready to be painted, I'll have a better hold on digital painting. Only thing that would make it better is trading in this mouse for a wacom (one of these days when I stop spending all my blasted money).
Went off route a little bit here. Drew from photo references for 30 minutes and digital painting for 30 minutes. Gotta' really buckle down on anatomy here.
That's amazing work with a mouse!
I can't wait to see the damage you'll do with a Wacom.
The sketch figures are pretty nice, but with the exception of the nekkid lady on the bottom right, they all are kind of stiff. See if you can throw a bit more arc into it, exaggerate the angles if need be. Give 'em some of that Bruce Lee motion
I'm loving the daily updates. I gotta do that myself :.
Real potential. Improving. Keep on.
Keep doing studies, your well on your way.
Max: Thanx... I'm not sure when I'll get a wacom. With the PS3 coming out, it will be hard to say. I have plans to start doing speed paintings of the x-men. Downloading some pretty decent references for that. This next set of sketches, I loosened up a bit more and worked more on patterns I saw in the figures. I think it worked pretty well. I'll need some more work to get it down.
Listing: Thank ya' much
Asgardian: Thanks, I'll keep chugging along (as long as my computer doesn't break down ((*knocking on wood*)))
Since I am doing a project on capoeira, I should sketch as much as I can with references pertaining to this. Tonight I was occupied looking for references for a round of speed painting.

Beast WIP
Hey man.
A belated welcome to the SSG!!
Nice collection of works you have hereI like how you're not afraid to experiment with different perspectives, light/shadow etc. Your patman picture looks promising - with some tight'ning up it'd look swell if I do say so myself.
Now. My favourite part.
Tone. You need to work on your sense of tone. Your shading seems kindof haphazard and careless (i have the same problem, really) - you should establish a kind of tonal gradient in your drawings. Where should you put the highlights? The shadows? Wha are the darkest and lightest points, and where do all those "in between" shades sit between the darkest and lightest points? Don't just scribble in the dark bits and leave the light bits blank and call it done. Really. Look closely when you're doing your studies.
That is all for now. Don't forget to check out the SSG's group forum! We've got an "egg drawing" activity doing on now... (:
As the pattern gets more intricate and subtle being swept along is no longer enough.

Interesting subjects. Good pursuits. You're improving. So, keep on.
Heya liquidjack!
Good start on the beast, would like to see that one finished!
Do you work from reference when sketching? Because i learnt a great deal by just doing simple fast sketches from mind, just finding shape etc.
Keep going and i'll check back soon![]()
The beast WIP looks very promising. I dig the capoeiristas.
Bunny had some great points about tone. Try using the side of the pencil for shading and mess around with cross hatching with a pen.
If you haven't tried some tonal bars (putting down the complete variations of value of a medium) do some. They work wonders.
I look foward to your Xmen. With a mouse! Amazing.
The capoeria stuff sounds like a good idea.
Good start on Beast.
Adjust the level in photoshop after scanning your pages. Does this look more like the page in real life?
You may already know all of this but anyway:
I attached an image of how I adjust the levels in photoshop. On the bottom right there's a button which you can use to create a new fill or adjustment layer, click on it and choose levels.
Now, adjust the arrow head thingies so that the black head is on the very left of the black "hill" and the white is on the right side. Now adjust the gray head til the image looks the same as on paper.

Bunny: I get your point here and will work on shading and attention to detail with more sketches in the future. Thank ya much
Max: Tonal bars will definitely be something I'll add to future sketches. I'll also put up a few actual drawings (if I get the time) practicing different variations of shading with pencil and pen. I'm pretty motivated about doing the Xmen (my favorite hero team since Watchmen and Suicide squad). Thanks
Listing: Thanks for stopping by.....drop in anytime.
Beershite: These sketches are referenced, but I have done freestyle type practice and warmups before.....hopefully I'll be doing it again. Thanx
Seer: Thanks for the comparison in level adjustments. I usually adjust to get the background close to white and still try to salvage the line work. I'll give your idea a go on the next round.
Took about 30 minutes to mess with sketching and 30 for the painting. Time starting to cram up a bit with holidays coming fast. Faster than a..... ummmm.... than a really fast thing on rocket powered roller skates![]()
