    ORTHO - 3 eye masked mechano goblin hunter
    (interpret it as you like)
    Thx Dominus

    It's beginning of October.
    At the beginning of each month we will have an ORTHO as a request. (You need those in your portfolio.)
    The orthos will be used as starting point for the monthly 3D challenge to be featured in the 3D area.
    By submitting your work to CHOW this week you agree to that (your work to be available for another activity here on CA)
    Happy?

    A good ortho looks like this (courtesy of MassiveBlack)

    For info on orthos - see these threads:

    http://www.conceptart.org/forums/showthread.php?t=77705
    http://www.conceptart.org/forums/showthread.php?t=77933

    Now... concept!

    ______________

    Topic elements:

    1 = Mechanic parts
    2 = has 3 eyes
    3 = mask
    4 = goblin or goblin hunter

    Make sure your picture contains these - you will receive 3 VOTES for each topic covered.
    3 extra votes will be offered for the description.

    DEADLINE EXTENDED - 15th OCTOBER

    kind demands and last minute notes:

    it will be nice to have a link to a high res file - this way our 3D guys will not squint or wonder what is THAT detail .
    if you still haven't started yet - you can do an ortho for a sculpture - that means.. you ortho a nice pose.
    make the lines clean - make sure the detail are readable and not just suggested.

    the kind demands on the 3D guys - i hope you will have the generosity to upload the 3D models so we can use them for texturing, animation, render&material challenges.
    for the sculptor guys - it will be nice if you can send the statue to the ortho maker. just to make CA the best place to be and to have this growing.
    all these are 100% optional (CA is the best place to be anyway )

    Final:

    When the evil wizard Ten-neardith set goblins upon the land, he'd had no idea that they'd be so successful. In only two turns of season the goblins had wiped out nearly half of the peasant population and sent the rest fleeing across the sea. To bring the goblin plague back under control, the wizard constructed a Goblin Hunter; a synthesis of corpse, iron work, magic and blades that was powerful enough to slaughter all the goblin tribes. If it, like the goblins, turned out to be too powerful, Ten-neardith could always dismantle the mindless hunter.

    Oblio: does it mean only the winner of this CHOW gets the 3d treatment, or do the participants of the 3d comp get to pick whatever entry they want? And is it an idea to draw the arms seperate in the sideview? Makes it a bit more easy on the modellers.

    This is an very interesting take on CHOW, especially since I model as well. I dont know if Ill have time for this one, but I surely partake in one of these if you keep on doing them regularly.

    pfieuw, this is a toughy! Will do my best!

    final

    Grobna Kritsnok is a "Goblin Engineer". When his arm got stomped by a large orc, he built himself a mechanical arm (with the help of some captured humans, who he killed off after finishing his new arm), to stomp large orcs. Connected to the engine of the arm, Grobna's third eye watches the surroundings for pending danger. The gold mask, that he uses to look important, was stolen from a so called "Sun-god". Since his arm stomps other things dan large orcs too, he had no problem in gaining that precious jewell.

    Grobna Kritsnok is the meanest little pain in the ass, with a huge mechanic arm to help him in gaining control in any situation.

    1 - only winner? NO _ 3D guys will be able to pick ANY of the submitted.
    2 - deadline: i'm planning to make it a 2 week challenge since it's the first time.. but it's not a sure call yet.
    I still think we can do it in a week.
    it' s your call guys.

    3 - mechano/masked etc - there are mainly there to help you guys get a nice wortho. Too organic will have a ton of points to match on the ortho.

    4 - arms straight or separated: YES - the MB ortho is a pain in the *** feel free to make it easy for you and for modellers too.

    Great Great Great Idea

    Mix of Organic and Mechanic will be great exercise for everyone ... and a good chellange for the 3D guys here.

    Can't wait to see your entries guys. I'll try to participate in the 3D part, since i'm a 3D modeler trying to gain some drawing skills it will be so usefull for me.

    it means having the arms palm down at an approx 45 degree angle out from the body
    that way a modeler can build a mesh right over it
    its a pain when the arms are in front of or directly on the body

    two weeks and we could all do amazing things. One might be rushing it. Lol, but I guess in the industry they could whip one up in a day.
