[Studio Colrouphobia]

This is going to be my little space on here. I'm not sure I will be updating this that often, but eventually I'm hoping that as it gets easier and easier for me to work my tablet (Im a loooong time painter/sketcher, but I only own a tablet since roughly a month)that it will be more frequent updates.

My first sketch is the one below. It's a Moonfish, quick sketch for a project of mine. Put a glowing yellow layer over to show the glowing sensation the fish has. Not sure if it was the best, but whatever.
It's only my second real tryout with a tablet so bare with me.


edit: so I thought I'd add timestamps on the topic. makes it easier to follow when I actually post things in this sketchbook.
Only learning how these fora works now so, things might change and alter along the way.
Tablet is getting easier and easier to work with as well, which I hope the later images show...


EDIT: I added a newer image in this post to represent my current level better.
The moonfish is gone. No idea where it went, it vanished when I updated with the newer image.

So here are some of my sketches.
Haven't been able to do that much with neither pen Sketching nor digital Sketching for about 3 years (children added to the family and those things), and the sketches I found come from my deviantArt account, and most of those are atleast ten years old, but it gives an indication atleast.

The last of the images is a sketch i did a year or two ago, and the link below is the finished work with that sketch as base.

btw, the fourth image, the one with the big monster with a gun. The black spots appeared when I tried to manually edit some areas that should be black...
These are scans from a couple (five?) years ago ad my skills with the level tool in PS were non-existant...

This was ten minutes or so, maybe 15.
Still can't nail down the Tablet and Ps as far as sketching goes...I gues I will have to just practice ALOT.

So I though I'd star doing some conceptuals for a comic I'm thinking to finalize.
This is an idea I have had for ages (we're talking atleast 10 years here), but for one reason or the other has had to be put on old.

The first concept is called 'Wrath - Contained'

Very loose and rough right now. This one is also shrunk down from it's original size to fit better on screen.
Please let me know what you think... I might let you know the story

edit: btw, I know it's "stubbed" in the bottom, I choose for this first conceptual to focus on the tubes and general body of the character. The White-Blueish tube is supposed to be empty, the smaller ones contains some sort of fluid.
I think I need to alter the Big tube to fit more on the center of the back, no? Or does it look correct? The machinery is suppose to sit all over the back, and as a fluke of perspective that one looks odd (the body covers all of it on the right side).

try working from large brushes to smallest, smallest brush size would be final details...

Thanks man! I am trying to work from large to smaller brushes, especially in the last one (the gem) this is true. The "squid" thing was not so much that though...

I have some issues when I get to the too small details, as I am used to viewing the entire image as I get to the details, now I find myself unable to do so (to an extent) because the benefits of working at extreme dpi is that when you get to the finer details- the thing one works at higher dpi for, then I have to zoom in...

In the end, its just practice.

Some WiP's for a slightly more serious project of mine.

This is going to be a large painting - I work at 2800x2300 pixels, the final painting is supposed to look slightly cropped, to emphasize the bulkyness of the character.

Concept- Dark Angels Chaplain (Warhammer 40k world)

I used to play this game 10-15 years ago, but the imagedry of the world is very appealing still...

Last one is a closeup.

Work so far:

Sketch - 20-30 mins (usually the sketching is the most difficult for me, as I have a hard time finding the correct pose or composition, this time it went very fast, usually I can take days for the sketch)

First WiP - 10 mins


Second WiP (Head) - 1 hour

I can recognice some of your influences. swedish roleplayinggames i like(d) them too.

The first digital paintings seemed a little flat, but it looks like you have corrected that issue in the later ones.

I'm sorry but not sure I follow you with the influences, please let me know which ones. I draw inspiration from many things so I also draw inspiration from RPG's. Some of my favoured RPGs are swedish in origins - Kult, Mutant Chronicles, Chill.

You mean the first digital painting of the last post of mine?
That one is a reference sketch for values and lightsources.
If you are refering to previous posts, yes, I have improved alot.... Not enough in my own opinion though, but I improved alot.

Thank you, no problem at all. I am hardly the person to give critiscism, because most of my stuff is second grade at best. The Terminator Chaplain is coming along quite well though... we'll see if I can keep the standard at that level...if I can, well then all of a sudden I will have a side-job...

hope you like.. not eant as a direct copy, mind you... I altered the direction of the face slightly, hence the "narrowed" face...not sure I will continue with this, it was just a study anyway...

I don't use that much references from the miniature range. I do use some references for the Chaplain image, but mainly materials and the skull.
This sketch was free from mind, with some inspiration from Wayne England (that is, I was trying to emulate his style from my mind...a little exercise if you will).

If I end up making a proper painting out of this sketch, then I will most likely use references for materials for this one as well.....very usefull for making it look more "realistic".
