2 environment concepts!

this is my first time posting in finished works and these are both straight from my sketchbook thread.

i'm three weeks in, trying to teach myself to paint digitally and conceptually so crits will go a long way

here's my first 2 attempts!

i definitely like the first one. it's so surreal it borders abstraction.

little guys anatomy in the second one is wonky. also, the contrast is a bit too much for me. especially the uber-white in the upper left. it punches me in the eye a bit.

interesting texture work throughout.

The first one is really cool, however, in the second piece, I can't really tell where the lighting is comming from and it seems to lack a background it's just kind of sky. I'd say thats pretty darn good for 3 weeks of practice though.

thanks for the feedback, i guess i was a little bit heavy-handed with the lighting in the second piece, not to mention the buildings weren't very interesting.

i'm glad you like the first one though, it's kind of detail crazy.. to me, it feels like the area where the rocks meet the sky on the whole right side of the image looks unnatural, but i can't figure out what to change.

my next ones will be better
