Well, I did this last night. Its one of my first reall nature scenes. I thought the texture made it look spiffy. What do you think?

what program are you using? Nice job now you have to work on fleshing out the details.
Photoshop....I did the painting then got a rough paper/canvas texture and overlayed it and adusted the options on it. I thought it looked rather cool.
There is a great danger with Photoshop and other art programs: it is full of effects that do neat things that can easily distract someone from actually learning to paint and draw. The overlay effect is one such distraction. If you would really like to learn to do this, then try just painting, without any filters or overlays or effects.
I think you are awesome, and I wish you the best in your endeavors, but I am tired of repeating myself, I am very busy with my new baby, and I am no longer a regular participant here, so please do not contact me to ask for advice on your career or education. All of the advice that I have to offer can already be found in the following links. Thank you.

Ditto with Burn/dodge tool.
I have a challenge for you;
Paint this digitally, do NOT go over it with lines first. just put it next to a new document and paint it; NO COLOR PICKER EITHER.
I stand corrected. Thanks, for you comments. I'll definitely be doing this here chalange...
