the way he is holding the sword seems very unnatural, and his fingers are very small

yeah I did make the hands a littel small on this one, maybe I can fix that up in photoshop if I spend enought time on it. As for the sword, I was aiming for that kind of resting against the hand thing like on the Braveheart dvd cover.

take a picture of your hand holding a sword, or just look at the way hes holding it on the braveheart cover. Reference is key. The hand holding the rose seems to be small too.

Alright thanks for the advice so far, the only real problem right now seems to be the hands so I'll fix that up than im good to go. Not to mention shading at this part could probably help me out a bit too.

start with the confident and dynamic proportion,
and yeah athe hand that holding the sword can be better,
get some reference, or photograph of hand holding something

the deltoid, (muscle on the top of bicep) is too long, may be my mistake, but iim not so comfortable with the extra muscle on the top of right bicep (the hand that holding the sword)

    good luck btw, keep improving

you've got to practice your lines, be more confident and don't pass the pencil so many times over each line, like in the arms or shoulders.
Also try using longer strokes for the shadows.
    Keep i up.
    cheers

Sweet, thanks for the adivce so far, but I was just wondering, what do you guys like about the design or what dont you like.(i.e hilt of sword, blade design etc.) Basically I am trying to create something realistic but also has that fantasy element to it. I was thinking of keeping that sort of thorn design and tying that in with the armor and perhaps addin a little more to the upper body.

Anways lemme know what you think

Still workin on the swordsman pic, but for now I jsut decided to post a little of me messing around in photoshop. Influences for this are Star Wars, Doom/Quake, Warhammer40k and a bit of Halo.

Haha, thanks man, I'm kinda hating how the scan came out though, way too bright so I might darken it and throw it back up

man this has a lot of potential.....get reference! have a friend of yours with decent muscle mass hold a flower in the same pose....that way you'll get the right proportions for the hands and the arms to the body....i really hope you continue this and make it amazing...like i said, great potential!

Definately looks better, although that took awhile to get updated

I'd say it needs some stronger lighting, and more shadows on the armour to give it some depth, it's pretty flat right now, especially the armbands...

Also, HIS right arm is a little messed...I think the hand is a tad small, and the upper arm is a little too long...it could be forgiven because he's a monster dude...but it's longer then his other upper arm and makes it seem odd...

I'd agree with the reference suggestion, or at least for the hand holding the rose....it's *kinda* right, but needs to be tightened up more still...

Finish this up and move on just kidding...
