some concept work based on scott robertsons technique of using marker to sketch up some abstract shapes and then look for starter colors and shapes for paintings.
one of the better ones to turn out. Still not finished, any critiques welcomed.

Well, the colors make an interesting atmosphere, but the city dosen't look very destroyed at all. take some chunks out of one of those skyscrapers, and have the rubble piled up on some of the buildings below, that would help.

good point,
haven't really gotton around to destroying the tall buildings yet.
Did some work on the bottom rubble, bringing out some of the detail here and there.
will go back and tear up the taller buildings soon.

There we go, the rubble is showing up a bit now. Now it's looking a bit like a demolition project. Lets make a little story for this picture. It will give you some direction in developing it. How was the city destroyed? If it was under siege by some army, then realistically it seems that the tall buildings would have been taken down first, unless certain buildings were specifially targeted, then it seems like there wouldn't be a lot of destruction going on. Is it the end of times? If so then bring out the fire and brimstone in the skies, and make the whole thing a hellish mess. Hope this is helping, I'm just shooting in the dark here.

thanks,
actually this started as some experiments and has turned into something worth spending some time on.
Definately having some backstory seems to help. I've noticed that to be a good working habit for most concept artists.
i'm going to work on it a bit more and think about it,
thanks for the advice, it definately points out one of things I know to do but haven't done yet.

I liked it. A kinda ruined city. Huh...reminds me of something I wrote one time.

i gotta point out the perspective.. its a bit unclear. it looks like this destroyed house is on a street corner, the street leading into downtown with all the sky scrapers in the backgroud. but in the foreground, we stand in a lot behind a fence, looking at it all?? if thats the case the buildings size/proportions need to be re-examined. good colors, give a very desparate mood. - JAG
it's only after you've lost everything, that you're free to do anything..
hi, may i ask are you using photoshop or painter? are this totally painted?? it looks awesome!!! how long did it took to get to this point?
to tell you the truth jag,
I hadn't actually thought about that when I started. I really just started working what was on the canvas and this grew out of it.
At first, i purpousfully made buildings that weren't vertical and offset, and as I start going, fixed some perspective stuff.
I'm thinking about it now, and the wacked perspective doesn't bother me too much, although, as much as I'm rendering this out so far, I think it may be a good idea to go back and reassess some of those issues you pointed out.
thanks for the feedback.
