finally i bought a wacom and finally i finished my first painting using it.

Beautifull colour and texture, the subject's a bit odd but cool.
Couple of crits though, the straight line in the background that kinda lines up with the crase of the shirt under her armpit.
The shirt at the top of her back, gives her really solid looking shoulders, I dunno whether it follows the ref. but if iit does it damages the overall look of the image.

I really like this piece and the direction its going. However, it feels like her bottom half is lacking the attention the top received. Her waist down feels a little flat. Especially, considering how much depth the pose gives to the piece.

I appreciate the Z shape flow of the background but compositionally when I open my eyes they are stuck to the area around her upper body. I have to make myself look around to enjoy the rest of the composition.

Lastly, I agree about the 1 line flowing perfectly into the shadow of the shirt. It’s a little odd.

Really nice work though, I wish I could paint like that.

BEAUTIFUL! Wow this is really nice. The tie and care you put into it really shows. love the rendering of her skin. It's great!

The line that other people are talking about doesn't bother me at all. Looks like a giant spear that the figure in the upper right is using to hook the octopus. In looking at the picture, I don't know how that line could be placed better. It highlights the form on her lower half quite nicely. Excellent work!

My only critique would be the hand holding the knife, it looks slightly off angle and because of that makes it slightly unbelievable that it's holding the knife. Not sure exactly how to put it, but that's the only thing that bothers me, and even then only a bit.

This is going direct into my inspiration folder. Thanks for sharing!

So am Rande: Vielleicht hätte ein etwas extraodinäreres Messer noch n bißchen cooler ausgesehen...?

Love the skin tones! her upper arm seems a little big - usually on a skinny girl the forearm looks huge compared to the upper arm when you foreshorten. And the line of her panties does not follow the shape of her body, which is what's flattening your piece down there. The back part is waaaay lower than it should be. Her butt would be hanging completely out.

The arm looks a little large for the foreshorten hand. Perhaps make the hand a bit larger. Overall, very nice.

Wow man! Really nice! Very realistic looking textures and shading and stuff. Especially on the shirt and that hand is amazing!
A couple of people have mentioned that the bottom half of the figure looks a little flat, and I think that's because her underwear isn't in any kind of perspective. In fact, the way it raises in the middle around the leg-hole makes it looks like the perspective is wrong. I figure the horizon line is probably eye-level with her-- maybe even a bit lower because of the angle we're seeing the knife, so that means that we're above the panty-line, so we should be seeing it from a higher angle.

Another thing that I noticed is in the tapestry in the back-- which I love by the way-- the firgure at the top is done very carefully and precisely and looks like it's part of the tapestry, but the octopus tentactles look really rushed, and you clearly didn't put as much care into them. What gives, man?
Still looks great, though. And for the record, I totally didn't even notice that line that the other guys were talking about. It took me a few seconds of looking around the piece to even find it after they mentioned it, so I certainly don't think that's a problem.

But in any case, very nice piece!

sweet work and rendering man, my crit is that her hair is flat at casual looking, and even on full investigation i can only find some hints of higher values in there. As-is, it's a kind of big, dark depth-killer in an otherwise marvelously deep and dimensional piece.

Great work, but I'd have to agree with bob.Also, the sleeve of the shirt looks quite flat aswell. I aslo wanted to mention the lack of the other arm. I mean, I know exactly where it is placed, and that it is completely physically possible. My gripe is that it doesn't fit the pose. I think that if you exposed a part of her arm or a splayed out hand, her posture would look more balenced and concentrated. For some reason I feel like she could tip over backwards.

Other than this, it is a beautiful piece, keep up the amazing work.

about the "line" mentioned by paddy and chirp: i worked a little over it. it used to be there, but i think it´s better now.

@zeichentier: danke, in den ersten skizzen hatte sie noch ein schwert, fand ich aber zu abgedroschen. du wohnst in hamburg? -plane gerade meinen umzug dorthin.

@reilly: nothing about the size of the panty, i love it so (except on sigourney weaver in alien). but guess your right with the perspective and the tentacles. thank you.

yes dile, for the rendering i shot some reference-photos of my wife i did mention it in my skethbook.

highlights on her hair i also tryed but i didn´t like it.

hmm i won´t change anything on this picture, but i will think on these (critique-)points in my next piece.

lol holy shit, for a first painting and any level of painting at that..Just...Unbelievable. Your colour choice is great, however, the only thing that throws me off is the top portion of the body compared to the bottom. Someone already mentioned it, but i think the upper portion might be a bit too....how the hell do you say this...Masculine? Could just be me, but no worries. Still looks great

Arne - Jo, Home sweet Hamburg, was mich angeht. Vielleicht sieht man sich ja dann mal!
...N Schwert wär im Falle des Bildes wirklich etwas abgedroschen gewesen. Ich meinte auch eher speziell den Griff des Messers. Sieht wie das billigste Küchenmesser-typische Plastik aus (was auch wir inner Küche haben).

Nichtsdestotrotz paßt es filitier-mäßig auf diese Art auch wieder gut zum Oktopus-Hintergrund...
