Silent Guards of Tectloh - Enviro Concept

    HI!!
It's been a long time since my last post! But I really want to get more active now and post more.
This one is inspired by Pirates of the Caribbean 2. I love this movie!!
Some feedback would be really nice and appreciated! (guess there are some proportion issues?)

ooooh pretty, I really like the mood in there and the green gives it a great sense of age and sinisterness at the same time.

the trees look a little stiff, they need a little thinning out toward the end of their limbs, and you could tone down the god rays (there's tooo any of them), and the borrowed texture on the left hand rock face really stands out

    Thanks a lot, young_paddy1!
I brightened the light source now (with help of a lens flare ) and also weakened the texture on the hill along with some other slight adjustments.

Totally digging this. It's really peacefull.I've got 2 very small pointers.

The small boat you made. The two people are standing quite in the back. The front should be lifted just a little bit or the backside should be a tad deeper.

The left of the two wooden things to settle your boat against( I forgot the name, I hope you know what I mean) seems to be missing the poles keeping it in it's place.

I understand the lighting you're talking about from the film. It caught my eye also. You should add alot more orangy/reds to match the film's. The lenflare's not helping at all IMO. It just makes the image look amateur. Also, observe reflections more.

Nice atmosphere in this one. To the left you've got a nice loth-lorian mood, whilst the house and the boat are rather plain and modern...

The extra contrast in the second one adds attraction, but gives a more spotty, fragmented expression. I think you can get away with the strong light, but I suggest hiding the actual lightsource (which is the sun, I guess) behind the cliffs.

The leftmost jetty lacks reflection, which makes it look as if suspended in air.

In all though - I like the pic. (...and think both trees work fine, but the leafless one lends the place a more eerie and unwelcoming touch.)

This is nice but your missing a bunch of dynamic, since you have a defined light source like that but you have no shadows from all the hills and stuff, there arent really any reflections either that you could pull out of it. Also im a bigger fan of the first one im not diggin the lenzflare much, its distracting. Also use the little lights in your scene to your advantage, now they are currently kinda arbitrarily laying around and leading the eye off the page, when really you could be using them really effectivly to establish interesting focal points. Hope that helps, dont get me wrong its a nice piece and I really like it i just think those things could be easily improved.

Ghostey: Thanks, mate! I tried to fix the things you mentioned...

Kian: Thank you for your thoughts! Well, the lighting doesn't have to be excactly like in Pirates. I just wanted to catch the mood somehow.

Cloister: Yay, that's a good idea. I found the light source to bright for the image as well so I think hiding it is makes the picture better. Thanks alot!

Red_Rook: No, it's good that you mention that! Though I don't excactly understand how to use the little lights as an eye-guider? Tried to improve the reflections as well as putting some shadow. Thank you for the feedback!

Ok, here's the edited version. Hmm, I might have better put this into the wip forum?

Much better, Your taking these crits to heart, that's good.
The house needs a reflection in the water. It should be just about as deep as the house is tall so it would almost reach the shore, broken and fading like your other reflections which you did quite well.

i dont think you'd be able to see that house reflect on the water as much as it aleady is. I was thinking the same, but notice that theres a deck around the house which would cut off the visibility of the windows and wall area reflecting into the water. Not only that but looking at the direction/positioning of the house compared to the terrain that follows (sunlight hitting from behind) would only leave a shadow, which he did quite well.

All together this is coming out great. Its got the whole dim/misty ambience going on in the background. My only crit would be to sharpen up your colours a bit more where the sunlight hits. Other then that great job

The shadow's fine, but a shadow is not the same thing as a reflection. There still would be a reflection going straight down. But yes the deck would conceal part of the walls of the house etc.

Thanks a lot for the good feedback everyone!! I'm really glad that it's better now...
Perhaps I'm gonna draw some more details. I think the foreground is still a bit empty at the moment.

nice image. and it improved alot since the lats version i've seen.
but this image is a good example for paintings i'd like to see a bit larger.
i know you've kinda been raised with that 800px max rule but especially enviroments need more room to really unfold in my book.
anyway keep it up. i always enjoy your posts

Really nice mood so far! Maybe dim down the other lights a bit so they don't distract from the house?

Hmm...actually on second thought, it's working alright cuz' my eye goes right back at the house. But give it a try and see what happens. It would never hurt.

    Good work!
