Eye floaters. Anybody else suffer from these???

    Hi everyone

Great site, bit of a strange first post but....

Just wondering if anyone else suffers from these, there really annoying. They have become more apparent for me because of staring at white backgrounds more(using photoshop etc)

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Floaters

    Anybody else suffer??

Oh yes, they're annoying as can be. I also try to avoid situations with too much light.

Might be a good idea to have someone check it out, on the off chance it is from any sort of structural damage.

I also get visual snow ( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Visual_snow ), which is super annoying when I go outside. Some days I can barely bring myself to look at the sky because the whole thing looks like a badly tuned tv.

Yep, i have a few of those. As a kid i used to lie in the grass and stare at the sky and study them. But i couldn't look directly at them, because they were sort of just outside my focus field. So if i moved my eyes towards it it would naturally move away from my focus.

I've been reaquinted with them after i got my dual monitor setup, when i look at the right monitor while the left one is very bright i see my old friends again.

It's a good thing you're getting them checked out now. In highschool, I started seeing a lot of them in my left eye, and it got to the point where half of the vision in that eye was gone. Luckily, I went to the doctor in time and he said that my retina was detaching. I had to get eye surgery a few days later. I remember the surgeon telling me that there was a 25% chance of going blind after the surgery. But the operation went fine, woke up after the anesthesia and I recovered faster than the doctor predicted. And then I had to get laser surgery in the right eye because the retina was beginning to detach as well. That was the most horrific thing i've ever experienced.

But that's probably not going to happen to you. You'll probably be fine. Cheers.

    wow frightening story zord.

Yeah i get my eyes check regular because of them but you have to watch out for a burst or large increase of them because of what you had.

is your sight back to 100%?

I was just wondering if they annoy people like mine do??? apparently they are fairly common as the board has shown.

Also thanks for the replies everyone.

I used to have those, but I haven't noticed any in my eyes for a long time. When I did have them, though, it was never severe at all. Just enough to go, "Oh look, there's a little something in my eye. Oh well..." and go on my merry way. I'm sorry it's worse for you.

Yep, I started getting them about a month and a half ago. I have a dot in my right eye and a squiggly line in my left. Optometrist checked them out and said they were just normal floaters, so that was a relief.

Haha, I have had these all my life but have never heard them being described by anyone else.. I remember trying to explain this to my parents when I was a kid and they never believed me. Haven't thought about it in years, but I looked at a white wall, and sure enough, they're still there. I figured they were just dust deposits or something.

I get obsessed with trying to look at them.

Big, big, big mistake... I'll spend minutes at a time following them around my eyes; never able to get a fix on them. It's really frustrating... ooh, there goes one now!

I think my Dog has one of those but it hasn't gone away for months. It obstructs her sight and obviously it hasn't gone away.

I didn't know that people could get it too x:

It might turn out that those "Eye floaters" are actually aliens that came from outer space. Living on eyes is their clever way to hide from humans .

I have them, I also have dirt on my glasses, which I wear all the time.

Neither bothers me. Actually, watching floaters provides entertainment when I'm bored enough

I never, ever realised that other people had these, haha, I just thought I was stupid. Or I was seeing the back of my retina like that guy that mapped the 'canals' on mars.

They don't normally bother me unless i look for them.

Ah! You sure do learn something new everyday.
I used to think I had some sort of microscopic vision and that these floaters I see were particles of dust and debris in the air.
    Hahaha.

Actually Dile, it's not so bad. Just occasionally annoying. I suppose since I've always had visual disturbances, it's something I got used to.

Good thing you're getting it checked out Nigel1210. Usually it's nothing, but very occasionally it can mean your retina is having problems. Hope it's the all clear for ya!

Yes. I've had them for as long as I can remember. I had to get glasses recently for my driver's license, and at the eye exam the guy just shrugged it off saying it's very common and not to worry about it.

I remember as a kid I took a dare to stare at the sun for as long as we could to see who'd back off first. Fortunately, I lost.

On the note of stuff you see in your eyes - when anyone stands up and their vision goes all black do you see green?

Why is it that we see green? Where does this darned green come from?

(also, I like the new edit box, but I swear the position of the posts in the forum layout has changed. I think it's horrible now because of that grey patch at the start of the post. I think the post layout was better as it was before... it did change, right?)
