Thanks for the attention and the kind words, all!
Magicgoo, thanks! I'll try to remember to do that - I notice it in almost all of my stuff, but I think it's cheating too much to fix it in PS... unless it's really bad

Mach, ugh, sorry to hear that. if you wanna vent some time, try PMing me. Thanks for the tip... 3 most important things... anatomy, anatomy, anatomy... (yeah yeah.. and composition, and story, and ...) Smug? No, I just can't smile without looking goofy...

    Onir, thanks!

Helzon, thanks, and great talking to you!

Farvus, thanks, your SPs gave me the initial kick to hurdle this last improvement hump... (if you don' mind mixed metaphors)

Mentler! Thank you! For a while I was despairing of ever getting past that point... good to hear from you that some of the work is paying off...

For now, just another update to what I already submitted to the 2-faces-in-1 challenge.

And another Self portrait... using the Fine Art painter brushes... I need to figure out how to model form using brushstrokes instead of blending....

hey man you just keep improving with digital stuff. I like the 2 in 1 portrait, nice smooth transition between the faces and the skin tones. not sure if it was intentional but the guy looks sadder than his female half. the self portrait is really nice as well, great color choices on the skin on this one as well... only real crit I have is that you look a bit cock-eyed and the left side (his right) feels a bit flat. nice stuff all around though, keep em comin.

The second self portrait looks nice. It will help if you think in warm and cool colours. Keep updating

thanks onir and farvus! Good point about the color temps.... and I had a weird face in that photo.. I think I'll try it again....

work is insane because we had some stuff that screwed up all of our production data, so I was on the emergency team to find out what happened...

    quick crap in painter...

hey man cool doodles, looks like you're getting alot better with Painter; achieving some pretty cool effects on these things (I really like the face at the bottom).

nothing really to crit, just a question though; I take it this page is from the digital watercolor section in Painter, but what is the second face you did a post ago with? just curious really.

    oi glikster~!

you're developing a pretty neat caricature style in some of those studies at work~! If you could stylised or ref some of the hands in those, they'd be perfect. The larger foreheads look better too... though some of the skulls still need some more volume.

hey glik! nice to see an update; would have replied sooner myself but been busy with school stuff (I can imagine you've been busy with things as well though). great update, you're getting really good with pen man. favorite things for me would be specifically the guy in the glasses with the little paper in his hands (great expression and form on him; your shading works really well too) and the eyes you did on the last page you posted (all of them have really nice emotion in them, and the line quality is just wonderful). not sure what exactly to crit on.. your heads have shown great progress, even within just these pages too. All I could really say is when doing some of your profiles (doesn't really apply to all the ones you've done here) don't be afraid of the size of the nose; I think we have a tendancy to shorten the nose a bit when we draw it (I know I do). I feel like that was a bit of a stretch of a crit, but hey I tried

great work and nice to see you around again!

I see some improvement in drawing faces. However your figures tend to be very short.
http://conceptart.org/forums/attachm...1&d=1165412428 - for example here his legs start at the level of navel. Maybe divide torso into few sections so that it's easier to draw some difficult foreshortening.

    I hope you didn't give up .

    gliksterz~~!!!

sorry, haven't been posting much too. Dang earthquake at taiwan took out 6-8 major undersea cables. Mid feb is the dateline for recovery.

anyway, one of the faces from your last update was really neat... so did a Glikster Study (tm) to understand the good bits~! Mine is pretty crappy compared to your original, couldn't get the fine points i wanted (and i had the benefit of "undos").

The shading in the recessed eye socket in yours is goood. So are the shadows under the neck, where the shirt is. Good treatment on the hairline and the combover too (*gets killed by glikster's co-worker*). I think you simplified on the hand though, went automatic, used clipart from memory, and didn't observe.

Hmm... did you stop? I see fantastic improvement in your figures. Maybe some Bargue drawing exercise would help you with proportions. It needs lot's of patience but I think the results could be great.

Hey Glickster. Love the self portraits on the last page, and your figures are looking nice. It would be nice to see you post some really thorough illustrations (i hope I'm using the right word here). Really show your abilities! Maybe something environmental?

    Back from the dead!

A bashful apology to my friends here.

Full-time job + getting ready for law school + toddler + baby due right when school starts = No friggin time!!!

Unfortunately this represents the majority of the drawing I've managed to do.
This ink was during an ENTIRE DAY MEETING (soooo boring) and the pencils were from photo ref.

    Thanks to everyone!

he's back! hey glikster, nice to see ya back buddy completely understandable about not having time, you've got a whole lot on your hands, much more than many would be able to manage I'm sure. great drawings too, love the inks; some of the tiny heads (that look like they are from life) have a great feel to em. pencils also look great, looks like you were really observing what you were drawing from.

I would say if possible just keep doodling away, even during really random times like waiting in line or something.. just so that you can stay fresh. hey, for all I know though you already do, and if that's the case than disregard that either way great to see ya back man, keep workin at it!

so... in my brilliance I decided to wait until a quarter of the way into Fall Semester to start again.

I bought James Kei's video and it is AWESOME! Completely inspired me.

Of course, as you can see, I need to work on my proportion more.

    Dammit.
