All right, it might be me, it might be CA.org or it might be something else entirely! Whatever it is, I've been having a bitch of a time opening some threads, my SB included - so here's my second SB.

Unfortunately I only have one update, but I guess I'll add someof my more recent stuff from my old one...

anyways wonderful ppl drawings...you seem to give your ppl a lot of volume, try drawing some more angular ppl just as practice.

and gotta love that toned paper...unless it's just a bad photo =P

Yeah i know what ya mean bout the threads not opening, had a hell of a time myself with most threads. I like ur new drawings, the top rght being the fave cuz of the proportions and the dark outline. keep it up.

You're making some progress here . I agree with hpslashluvr about drawing some angular people. With straight lines the figure is simplier and this way you can give it concentrate more on volume and pose.

that doodle actually looks kinda cool...the colors are weird but it works for me. i just don't really fancy the pixelated edges.

hey glik, sorry I didn't reply sooner. nice little digital doodle, I like the way you built up the volume on that one. cool moleskine doodles, nice looking head and the room from the second one looks pretty nice. perspective feels a little weird in a few spots, but I assume the room itself was more quickly done. nice work though man, keep em comin.

Really like the digital doodle. You could give it even stronger highlights.
As for some advices. I think you could improve by drawing more with ink (but without shading). Just pure lineart.

hey glik nice drawings, really clean lines on all of these. that first guy looks great! cool pose and nice proportions; definitely good stuff, especially since it's not reffed. I also like the white on the toned paper to show the volume in the hand and the head.. critwise I'd say the lady's torso is really masculine; might be because she has alot of muscle mass (looks like more of a bodybuilder's sort of build). other than that the guy in the first image's right arm looks a bit larger than his other arm (nitpicking a bit hehe).. keep it up!

soorry... been busy with work. Whole crew got an annual pay raise, big boss increased it slightly after some politics. Anger got taken out on sub-boss with a department dinner that nearly hit 4 digits. After that... projects and more responsibilities came in.

will repeat a question from last time... sooooo.... any finished works yet? *pot calling kettle black* Go back occasionally to recheck/relearn the basics, so you don't reinforce any bad habits (like the ones i have! hehehe).

good advice about going back to basics... I want to do more anatomy studies... I've been trying to focus on life drawing, mainly because I had no clue where to start with it.... also been trying to draw the whole figure instead of constantly doing heads...doing something finished? sounds scary....

i do that all the time and go, "AGHH! don't know how to fix it... need more life studies to correct that goof!!!"


btw... i always get nervous when i scan a metal spiral bound book on my scanner... afraid i'll scratch the surface.

hey glikster, nice updates; that digital face has nice volume to it and I like how you did the lips on the second one. didn't realize Zhuzhu had a setting that he had put up, looks like it works well.. gonna have to look into that hehe

this most recent update is looking good as well, first one has some really confident lines. that giraffe is great! hehe love the way it came out; the standing guy next to it has a nice pose as well (kinda reminds me of some of Farvus' stuff for some reason). nice painted page as well, I like the white things you did there... would be cool to see more of those painted pages (if you've got more that is ) anyway nice update again, keep it up!

Hey man.. Keep on pushing your fondations and drawing the manician and under structure of the human. ALot of your drawings are lacking proportion. Also what might help alot is doing blind contours and working from life more.. Good luck mate

I can see you have some understanding of the body in terms of simple forms, however you're not showing this as clearly as you can. The trick of course is perspective and the trusty block, sphere, and ellipse, you will need to look for places that help describe these forms. For example when a cylinder is tilted it has elliptical cross contours, the head can be represented with a cylinder the elliptical cross contour can be gotten with the brow ridge and hairline. The torso is also like a cylinder, the cross contours here can be the clavicles, nipples, bottom of pecs, abs. There are all sorts of these places on the body giving us these depth cues. The choice of forms is of course arbitrary, the head could be likened to a block or sphere. You will see that on the first image of today's update these cues are mostly lacking, except with the fat guy's block head and the reclining guy's torso, I thought the abstraction of the one guy's face into just horizontal lines was pretty cool by the way, nice texture on red head guy too. For life drawing slow down a little, observe for a longer time before putting anything on paper, that hand from life looks bizzare.

Oh... something new . I like this head with burning eyes. Did you paint in or is it some pastel?
The second one with head is very good too. I only see something wrong with the eyes. You could some studies of how eye stays in eye socket.
I also agree with seth1 about the proportions.

coool another painting in the moleskine; nice rendering on the jaw area, cool looking eyes as well. how long did that take ya? just curious really. watch the length of the wrist on the hand/arm in that same pic.. looks like the joint area is a little long. I agree with Farvus on the eye socket study as well (I should do that as well). looking good though man, keep it up

thanks farvus... I used watercolor paint without the water for the bottom of the head and pastels and colored pencils for the top.... I agree... time for more studies...

Drawing from life is the best way to learn. It looks like you’ve got some drawings from life mixed in there – keep going with those. Have you got people around you who would be willing to pose, or are you taking a figure-drawing class? Whatever you can get, draw from life like there’s no tomorrow and you’ll learn really fast.

Think that it is good to do a little bit of color as we learn <> remember

to always think about value as well as hue

When your drawing instrument is touching the surface remember the mass conception (form) that it is traveling over.

nice updates! i like the fact that your sketches are obviously made in educational purpose, not all but some.
just try to do more life studies, and then check the underlying structure or similar techniqual stuff in educational books like loomers.
