Finished!, Tried to keep this loose and fun

Here's a process image. I started with a really loose line drawing that looks like something a toddler created so I don't know if it's worth showing in the process.

I wanted to paint some really simple monsters tonight after doin a bunch of loomis for some reason, so I started thinking of what made me enjoy monsters and I remembered monster in my pocket.
I really loved the simplified designs and wanted to take a shot at it and I ended up making a mini tutorial.

Note, this was just for fun and it's not the only method of course.

I also apologize for my terrible hand writing.

just went through your SB, nice progress... spending time on purely studying head and figure anatomy and structure will help you a lot.
Try playing with complimentary colors and use cold vs warm in your paintings to balance them out.

@Samurai_Nik, No problem, I appreciate the kind words.

@Danny_K Thanks Danny, I'm working on all of that stuff, I just don't post it, mostly because my scanner blows, but I'll do some more digital studies. Faces and hands have been my bane for a few months. As far as colors go, I'm always experimenting in fact I'm working on something right now to push it further.

Ok so, I'm working on a personal project to paint 100 monsters, the idea is to try and get really creative with design, but to also push my self to work more on construction and color as well as speed up a little.

I'm also going to name every one and try to write a short description, maybe it will turn in to something special when I'm done with them all.

Here's one of them I did today, Help me name him!
EDIT* heres a demon to go with him
Edit2 added a quick sketch of my next monster, smelter skelter

Nice smeltor skeltor, i'm looking forward to the pun-galore

Why not up the game even more by say for example, do x amount per week/ month just to add a little heat.

oh and maybe some material studies? characters like the log monster could benefit with some well informed textures.
Its all about pushing yourself and taking that extra step.

@ Lumens, hey thanks, I'll work on my materials, as for setting a goal, it was going to be 3 a day, but I keep sort of over thinking them and it's taking me much longer than my first few monsters.

    Berry Demon from today.

Little higher res than my other monsters.

This is a lot of crap so bare with me.

Hopefully photobucket doesnt take a poop too

Your updates look good, definitely on the right track with all those studies! For the latest painting of the girl, I would say to tilt her a little more forward in space and exaggerate the space between her legs to give it some more drama. She looks like she could use some highlights, since some of her brightest colors stay in the mid-tones for the most part. Try setting up a new layer, fill it in with black, and select the overlay mode "Color" for insta-B/W to better gauge your values. Maybe do the same with some paintings you like a like/admire to help figure out what you're looking for? Just an idea!

    Keep at it!

Uhm, I'm not sure if this is just me, or not, but in this last sketch of the girl, it looks less like she's running and more like she's falling over. Uhm I guess you could try to adjust the legs, or maybe the torso...to make it look more dynamic. I dunno...like I said it might just be me O_o

    Thanks guys,

@ psychobuddy, shes supposed to be swinging the staff to create a sand storm, I need to re-evaluate the pose and stuff, definitely a learning experience as far as dynamic posing goes.

@sapphirelullaby, thanks, I'm definitely not done rendering as far as lighting goes, even though i'm pretty deep in to my process, I'm starting to become pretty dissatisfied with this image, I'm going to keep trying to push it to finish but the technical hurdles are really killing it for me right now.

I do the greyscale trick every now and then, I need to check it with that image, I know its very midtone heavy right now.
