    Music Making Apps

So, I'm looking for a bit of help finding some hopefully freeware or perhaps low end recording software. Along time ago in my parents garage me and my friends would record on a 4track, but I've never given digital a shot and I was looking for an easy starting place.

It would be great to find something as easy as pressing record and playing along on another track like the old 4 track beast. So any help would be a big help, thanks.

Audacity ought to do what you want. It's free too.

If you have a wacom, you can have some great fun with http://www.nicolasfournel.com/wmidi.htm

I know it's not a recording app, but it's still fun. Audacity has already been rightly mentioned.

Thanks abillion. I've been playing with audacity for the few hours and it works perfectly for me.

Now that I have that up and running might you guys have any suggestions on where to find nice sound clips. Ive been looking around but cant find exactly what I want. Im looking for an old school toy lazer sound.

Thanks again, number six, and Ill check out that other link you sent me too Snarfevs.

http://freesound.iua.upf.edu/ - Usually a good place to find clips, although takes a while to find what you want cause the collection is so huge. =D

Also i'm very partial to Skale as a tracker: http://skale.binarydeception.com/

That together with Audacity and you're pretty much set.
For instruments, check the Skale forums, they usually have some free soundfonts linked.
