Elisas sketches - with oilpainting, nudity and life-sketches. Updated 19 feb!

    Hi there!

My name is Elisabeth and this is my new official sketchbook!
I am actually not new here, I had an account for some years ago, but recently I have both the inspiration and time to draw every day (I am not a working dude, only a student on summer-holiday).

So here we go. (I am a little nervous, I have seen a lot of amazing artwork here)

    First some old oilpaintings:

    A selfportrait: (in oil)

    My recent sketches:

    From Life:

    Pastell on pastellpaper:

From life - a friends old car:

    Comments and crits are welcome!

Hey nice work! theres some anatomy mistakes on some pics
well not so much as errors its more like some times you guess some
areas that you dont fully understand, and that makes things
look a bit weird, like on this one
    http://i4.photobucket.com/albums/y14...ownmyspine.jpg
it seems you got a bit confused, as to how the structure of the
back muscles goes, so the volumen looks rigth cause you know
your lights and darks, but it still lacks the inner structure to make it
go to the next level, oh! and post some more non referenced drawings,
    to evaluate your visual memory.
I really like your work, keep posting and ill keep waching!!

    Extra info:

Download this zips while you can, REALLY they might be gone
by tomorrow and you will be sorry not to have this information
    http://raven.sixdot.net/Kevin%20Chen/

This is the man who did all the drawing on those zips,
he knows pretty much all you need to know about construccion,
anatomy and thinking in three dimencions, study him a LOT!!

    Hi again!

maxetormer: thank´s a lot for your comments and crits! I think you really pointed out what I really need to practice more on; anatomy. The links and tutorials will be very useful, thank´s! And you are right about doing more non-reference stuff, I have become too much comfortable with having a reference when I draw.

    ewing: thank´s a lot

    Anthriel: tack tack

Mindflaw: man tackar! hehe, don´t put the pressure on me, man!

Todays update: - With non-ref stuff! yea

    Ref-nudes:

Some quick oil-sketches, for practicing (tried to paint with only 4 colors, a red, a yellow and black and white)

    (bad photo)

Here we go! the non-reffed heads!

Nice start on your sketch book Elisa. Start thinking about edge quality and placing the right edges in the correct areas. Your work could use a lot more softer edges. There are hard, soft, and lost edges. Keep it up.

Very nice work. The oil portrait is coming along real well. Good job on the foreshortening on that arm in your last post, very nicely done.

hey, thank´s a lot for your comments!

Smitherines: thank´s for your tip, I will try to use more softer edges. Thank´s for checking in!

Todays drawing- a wip in charcoal, but it is rather messy. I am not finished with the tree to the left, but I will give it a try later.

    Crits are welcome!

    Hey elisa

Muchothanx for dropping by my thread. Like the BoneDoctor said, great feel for form. Like the way you are playing with lines and shapes to reveal more areas of the drawing. Only advice I can give you is to keep on drawing!

    muchthanx,

here is an update for yesterdays and todays work -not much though, only some small practicing stuff

quick figure studies with ink and black marker:

And some sort of a WIP-selfportrait in oil. I am satisfied with the colors, but the mouth is fucked up, and I´m going to repaint it later.

Saw "oil" in your title and decided to check it out - glad I did: that oil rocks! Very believable, mouth does feel a bit off but don't think it's that big a deal. Colours are awesome, think you've nailed that one.

Markers and inks are also really impressive, like that you are attacking the markers, your are using them in a very energetic and lively manner.

Really impressive stuff, have some stars.

WOW youv got some pretty eyes girl!
    http://i4.photobucket.com/albums/y14...lisan/sp-1.jpg
now thats one hell of a good selfportrait!
about the ink stuff, its looking good, but it still
has that rought *peakry* look, maybe try to do some
were you wouldnt lift your hand from the paper?
and try not going over the same place more than twice,
its a hard excersice, but you might find it usefull,
I mean doing pen work is fcking hard anyways but
it always fun to find ways to challenge your self,
another thing you could do is to slowdown, in the
swordfigthing drawing I presume you used photo ref
(unless your uni happen to have a sword team in wich
case ill just shut up ) so if you have time try
to really copy with as much fidelty to the model
as you can, doing that in inks will increaste you line
control a lot, Im just in the process of doing that bw
Thats about it, just keep working your doing just fine!

    :Edit:
Oh I forgot to ask, it the SP from mirror, photo
    or a little of both?

maxetormer: haha, thank´s! The sp is actually from a photo, I didn´t have the patient to sit and stare in the mirrors for so long, hehe But I am thinking of using a mirror next time, I think it will be a good practice.

You have some really good advice about the ink stuff. I have to slow down a bit to get the lines right. I think I am generally a bit uncertain about drawing lines. (And yes, I used photoref - but having a sword team around would be the greatest! Thank´s a lot for dropping by!

Hi again all! I have been a way for some days and I haven´t been able to draw as much as I wanted. But here are some few stuff:

    Some non-ref. and ref. stuff:

    Life studies:

And one painting in oil i finished today, (it took about 4 hours), done with raw umber, black and white

I dig your stuff very much, lovely oil paintings. Very cool to see that you only used 3 colors on your latest piece, gives me all sort of ideas and inspiration what could be done with a minimal pallette

    Keep it coming!
