I tried the random line things once, and it worked at first.. then I just decided it wasn't worth not controlling the outcome just a little bit. So what you do;
Draw a few things on one sheet, leaving space in the middle. Then you pic shapes out of what's in the middle. Then you can create a great composition and stuff without pondering for minutes what you're actually gonna draw.

never really tried the random lines thing, like your idea tho pixel. good exercise for creativity. i really think the panda bat works better as a pencil drawin, more angular, which is all good. the colouring isnt bad, it just takes that element away from the origional drawing.

figure on the second random lines page looks promising too, keep it up.

Tex, when you had painted this char do you have a line drawing and paint over the line drawing then hide the drawing, or do you keep the line drawing on through the whole process?

That depends on personal workflow. What I do is just block it in over the line drawing on a separate layer, so I can toggle the coloring layer to see if I'm losing anything that I think is important. Some people will put the line drawing on top of the color layer and set the layer to multiply-then work underneath the lines. I'm sure there are a bunch of different ways to do it.

Pixel, I'm not really concerned with a composition when doing these. It's more of a warm up thing or to get an idea-jump-start. Maybe I should try to get entire compositions out of one...

Your stuff has this weird, freaky vibe to it. Like it is alive and shouldn't be. It being whatever creature you've drawn. The first sketches are very haunting. Keep at it, and post ore, as often as you can. =D

Your figures and brush technique are really improving. Keep expirimenting with pose and composition. Try to stay away from profiles and static poses and really just keep doing what you're doing and do a lot of it. Like I said, I definitely see a marked improvement. Your stuff seems a lot less confined and isolated and I can see that you're thinking more about the entire image instead of just the subject. That's something I sure as hell struggle with. Keep up the great work, dude.

Let's see some with environments next.

Gotta say, i like the idea behind those first drawings. I never thought of something like that. I did, a while ago, try to just draw a mass of shapes and forms in painter, then try to carve out something which popped out, but didn't really work too well, so i scratched the idea. Cool to see you made it work for yuh.

I've been waiting for a sb thread from you.

I'm loving the creatures you're pulling from abstraction, I would say you should try redrawing the ones you like in a different pose, taking the basic structure and shapes that you found and seeing if you can make it work another way.

the paintings are looking good, try using bigger brushes though, you're getting caught using too little to try to say too much.

I've got to say I like your pencil drawings far more than your digital paintings. Your pencil shading is a real asset. I'd tell you to focus on drawing, but it certainly doesnt hurt you to be working on both your traditional and digital art at the same time.

As with what Easy Tiger! said, your abstract stuff is cool but to keep on your toes try taking some of those abstract figures and orienting them in a number of additional views and poses other than the original abstraction.

Keep at it and keep posting my friend.

Got to stay sharp Tex, keep at it and do it as frequently as possible.
You got to loosen up a bit in the linework become a little "sloppier" in some way.

All the usual follows, practice from life bla bla bla bla, I'm sure you know it better than me.

another kinda slow day at work. I kept changing my mind on the slumpy guy, and killed him. printer paper+random pencil with bad eraser= don't make any changes, or it'll look like ass.

I'm happy with his feet and pants for the most part though.
