Should the photo challenge schedule be changed?

In the (botched) poll thread I brought up a question about shifting the photo challenge times so that the weekend would be included in the "shooting season", as that's when many of us like to take pictures. A couple of other people felt it'd be a good idea, so I'm starting a new thread.

The possible schedule could be like:
- topic is given on thursday evening/friday morning
- poll opens tuesday evening 6-8PM GMT
- poll closes thursday morning

This'd give you friday-tuesday to shoot pictures, which would be good for us weekend photographers; we'd possibly get more/better pictures and less use of "old" photos.

Possible difficulties include remembering to vote on tuesday/wednesday as well as checking the results and setting the new topic thursday night (especially if you're not online a lot during the week).

Not very much to discuss, you are right! I would prefer Thursday evening and not Friday morning to start the challange. Sometimes i start the weekend on Fridays.
And taking photos on weekend is much better then comment those from the week.

Isn't it always amazing how it's the obvious things no one mentions?

I'm sure we've all thought at one time or another, 'hmm, what about the weekend?' and just didn't say anything.

Kudos and Cheers to Fingers for actually saying something. It seems the forum agrees on it, Le Gab, ClaudeEgypt, Samsite and co. have yet to voice their opinion, but I think we can already see the general thought on this.

So... Thursday to Tuesday[vinc]? That seems the best idea. Thursday get it, Thursday-Tuesday take photos, Poll on Tuesday? for Wednesday, then off again. Now all we have to do is agree a time for voting. We have a couple from Poland, a few Romanian posters, an Egyptian, a few Germans, Englanders, a Jamaican, then we jump over to America and carry on with all that business. So uhm, who wants what?

The Rules seem to work on GMT+2. I say we use Finland/Egypt and everyone else inbetween time. Eastern European Time, 18:00. How's that sound? It means accomodation for any South Africans also. As far as I can tell everyone here (except any South Africans if he have them) observes Daylight Saving Time, just in case you were fretting.

The main thing with the voting schedule is that there should be a full day for both Europeans and Americans to vote. 6PM Tuesday evening to thursday morning measured in GMT+2 will do fine; it'll be up all day tuesday for US, all day wednesday for EU.

Basically the poll should be closed first thing thursday morning (late wed night for US) so you'll be able to find out if you won by checking any time during the day. Then the winner will set a new topic as soon as he can, or before midnight GMT+2 on thursday night. This is 2PM thursday for US west coast. If he doesn't, the runner-up does... Maybe a final deadline of noon friday, after which the national guard is called in if there's no topic.

It's going to be a bit tight on thursday morning for the west coast, but I'll find out if it works when I get back there next month

I also propose that if the person who set the topic is not available to start the poll within a few hours of the correct time, someone must volunteer to do that and announce it in the challenge thread before starting the poll so there won't be multiple polls.

There's one problem with your plan though.
The National Guard is kinda restricted to the US. I suggest we call in Interpol instead.

In answer to that I shall refresh your memory... photoediting. I say we sort these sorts of things out whilst we can to avoid strops later.

It's good to change things anyway, it stops it from getting monotonous and it's just good to review things everynow and then.
