dude thats an awsome link!
hey man! All I can say is to draw from life as much as you can, imagination and life go hand in hand! draw lots of people around school or anywhere, and tonnes of SPs! do some longer stilllifes and fell your eyes sharpen
This one is awesome by the way, looking forward to seeing it as a painting!
http://i75.photobucket.com/albums/i3...e_hh/mount.jpg
Heya! thanks for the comments:
Blanquish- yeah, some of those are on shitbut i am starting to use a book. Currently drawing from "dynamic anatomy", that link is gold btw. oh yeah, im from canberra (born in sydney though). cheers!
Arch- i hear ya man and yeah i will be doing more observational. Essays are > than my time atm.
anyway updates! i do have more to post but im a bit pressed for time atm:
crappy wemon, reffed from magazine (would love some advice on drawing the ladies)
arm studies
observation of mystery machiene
observation of tap+ doodles
king kong goes ape?
finally, charcoal and chalk pastel thing for school, em gee (final one will be big ill try post a pic later)
cheers!
I like how you are doing anatomy studies, but do slow down a bit and check your porportions and placement on them, they get alittle out of whack. You got some interesting character sketches. Keep up the good work.
Thanks matt, really appreciate the advice- and yeah some of my stuff is way over preportioned.. def gonna work on that
updates! sp, tried to do it faster this time..
pen sketch of a guy in one of my classes
pen anatomy, perhapsl bit oversized in some parts, seems theres a fine line between perspective and steroids..
pen SP and anatomy,
tried to apply some anatomy..
last but not least, head from imagination: pretty happy with this.
aight thats it for now! as always, tips/crits are welcome!
hey man! good stuff from life, I like the dude from class
make sure you really pay atention to those anatomy studies, im not sure if "dynamic anatomy" has anatomy plates (like these for example http://www.bartleby.com/107/illus414.html) but if it dosn't, then you defiently need to get a book that does, As I recommended earlier "Anatomy for the Artist" by Sarah Simblet is a really good book with excellent plates like that. Anyway, pay attention to, and write down where the muscles connect, their names, shape and function.
Keep it up man![]()
hey there Spade! your sketches show alot of energy and enthusiasm. If you don't have some pick up some books on anatomy and proportion. Up above you asked for help on drawing women. I did a sketch and a paint over here to show you some proportion problems that you can check while your sketch is still rough and light. The first one here is over your drawing. you may have made his proprtions different on purpose which is totally okay. If you WERE trying to make it anatomically correct something you can always check in a profile is the brow, nose, and ear relationship. Bottom of ear lobe runs parallel with bottom of nose and so on. (look at the red)
this next one shows the eye, nose, mouth relationship when seen from the front. I actually drew her eyes a tad bit wide apart. generally the distance between the eyes is one eyewidth. There are many books out there that will show this and more.
Keep up the hard work and thanks for stopping by my thread.
Your style is very "comic-ish" which I like, but it will be much more beliveable when you have a good knowledge of anatomy. Keep drawing. Your pencil undersketches will look good with inking, I think. I however am no expert. Learn about anatomy and you will never regret it.
wow, thanks for the comments!
Arch- spoke to you on msn about that this morn, thanks for the feedback!
The penciler- holy crap man, thanks for that! I really appreciate the constructive reply. I do have some anatomy books that im using atm, but im prolly gonna get some more, they seem abit plain. cheers mate!
Q- thanks man, do you mean inking with a brush or just with pen? anatomy is definetly something ill be working on
updates:
SP, not sure if i like it, kinda lost steam and doodled lol
some observations of people in classes, man they move so much =/ basically i tried to do them fast and i recognise there are errors. definatly something ill practise though

ass studies
finally, imagination, some kinda insect warrior
thanks again, would love more feedback![]()

hm, could be abit busy with school so this might be all for tonight D:
SP tried working some darker values, bit rushed.. didnt quite have the focus.
studies! pretty interesting, ill be doing many more
worked some more on this:
yet another WIP, concept for a giant (possibly zombie, but we shall see) wyrm
and finally, Temple designe, its a bit sloppy, but i enjoyed doing it alot.. would love some feedback!
thats it for now! as always crits etc would be great!
hey man, your SPs are improving already, and good work with those studies! remember to look at your own muscles and see if you can locate them, move them around and such, also, dont wory about the deep muscles just yet, this one is pretty much unescesary: http://i75.photobucket.com/albums/i3.../IMAGE0044.jpg
Keep it up dude![]()
What archipelago said. Out of all of these drawings my favorite's gotta be the Kong one. It shows the most confidence in what you were doing, since there's not as much redrawing... or going over the same lines over and over, whatever you wanna call it. If you're working from a figure, or photo or whatever reference try and spend less time looking at the page and just zone on the subject... see whatcha get. I'll be honest, the first few times it's just gonna be... GROSS but it's a good exercise. Bust thine ass![]()
thanks for the comments!
Arch- thanks, yeah im still getting into the swing of drawing alot so i sometimes forget what i should be doing lol
Troy-thanks for stopping by! haha yeah im trying to spend less time looking at the page, its hard not to thoughglad you liked the kong pic!
on to...
updates! i had plans to do alot more anatomy today, but i really should start some written piece for school. If time allows ill get round to them and post them up later!
SP, using a horrible pencil D: .. still a poor workman blames his tools
hand studies, gah! and some random face...
School observation:
mix of reff and imagination
bit more work on the wyrm,
scewing around with markers:
anyhow, time for soul crushing schoolwork D:
thanks to all who have a look!
um, almost forgotpld:
that is all, for now...
Your off to an excellent start with studying anatomy, I commend you for that, but looking at the marker rendered drawing just then you seem to already have a good handle on markers, I suggest you expand and do some more pictures, imaginative or studies from still life (spoons/forks/dishes/pots/or move to bigger objects like cars/trucks/planes/ships/buildings/etc) and using the markers to render them, they look like one of your strong-points.
Keep those anatomy studies up, and as a small idea, try to practice with what you've learn't so far about the anatomy, in this case well use the arm you just posted as an example, draw it at different angles and at different positions, and compare these with your arm - lifting your arm, lowering it (If you train/excersise at the gym - perfect opportunity, otherwise, just moving it is good enough, but excersise shows the muscles contract/retract and tense under stress/weight). This is because you really get to see all the muscles and bones in action, the knowledge will act as a library when you want to refer to structuring poses, gestures and cross-referencing with pictures that you may be unsure about the anatomy on. Also, head construction is key, the bitch about getting heads right is usually if you misplace a single line, it can change the expression entirely, you'll have to work a bit more on practicing with heads, The Penciler nabbed the ear problem well, for example.
Know your body, Know the bodies you draw. And keep up the good work! Your off to a great start and hope to see more.![]()
excellent work on those class mates and ref/imagination pages, that wyrm is looking tasty too![]()
I think you are definently on the right track, stick with it at you will be rewarded![]()
This is really important though, allways, and I mean allways be aware of everything around you, notice what kind of clothes people wear, what a lampshade looks like, how clothes fold, what peoples arms look like, peoples faces or an interesting piece of machinery, etc, etc. All of this will build up your library of forms and shapes in your head, even when you are not drawing , draw! otherwise your head will just be stuck in your sketchbook.
After a while of doing those anatomy studies and SPs, you will notice forms that youve never even thought about and thats when this way of thinking will help you emensly.
nice work man, although i think some of your stuff could use some contrast
with this one, http://i75.photobucket.com/albums/i3.../IMAGE0046.jpg , have a look at 3 point perspective and try to apply those rules to your drawings of buildings and stuff.
cheers
haha, cheers to all who made comments
Fafnir- Thanls alot for the advice; I really apreciate it. Yeah Im planning to do more work with markers as I kick into gear, although what you see there is probably the best and atm extent of my ability with them lol D:, thanks you for the anotomy advice.. Ill put some of that into practise as soon as i can
Arch- cheers brotha, yeah ive been pretty arty in my head atm, thanks for the advice- Ill try push it further
Rodrigo- wow man thanks for stopping by, I agree about contrast its something id like to get better at. Ill start doing some more perspective work, I feel its abit sloppy atm
Updates, not real happy with this mornings drawing. Have more school shiz hanging over my head so Ill be busy with that later D:
WIP, I have no fucking idea what is going on with the pose =/
some school observation, tried to draw some smiling chick .. didnt draw fast enough lol. I only had a couple of classes, and had to pay attention D:
Arm studies and head construction,
hand studies etc

If I can find some time later tonight ill post up an SP and some more shiz, thanks for looking people!

Heyo, finished the school crap for now- so i have the long weekend to chill out and draw. Today seemed to be abit of a grind, stuff didnt flow that well and my SP is horrible.. ill do another after some anatomy stuff later.
anyway, updates!
SP- ya well, eyes are wrong, planes of the face are wrong. It makes me look like a criminal. Really frustrating..
heads
school observation
yeah thats it for now, i did work more on some WIPs but nothing really worth showing yet. I also started a drawing on canvas that i'll try post up some time later this weekend.
Thanks for looking guys, so far this thread has really helped motivate me. Ive gone from sporadically sketching a page every few days, to doing about 35 pages in the past 4daysas always I appreciate any coments/crits etc, cheers!
nice stuff
We all get bad days, and belive me, that one will not be the last, but what is important to remember is that through those bad days come days that make it all worth it, you will probobly see what I mean later on but yeah![]()
Just keep going with those SPs, you know that already though![]()
Real nice school stuff, you seem to make people too bony though, Im not sure what it is but I think it might be the hard planes.
35 pages in 4 days is tasty btwIts great that you are giving art a swift kick in the balls, its the only way to improve!
Keep this shiz up biatch RAWL
Thanks archi! I apreciate the kind words, man. Definatly agree that my people are too boney.. ill try work on that.
anyhow, updates; not showing much cause alot of the stuff i drew last night was rubbish D:
SP garbage, really need to work on these
