    Question [PhotoshopCS2] Saving Guide Slices

I am doing a car modelling tutorial for 3D studio max.

Right now I have just finished making a correctly sized schematic to model from.

Part of the tutorial was saying that I should use the guides, to "create slices from guides". Now after I do that, how do I save the parts I want independantly?

I know other ways to do this but ofcourse it always helps to learn simpler methods and get more out of this tutorial.

    Thanks for da help!

from my experience of slicing... I never used the 'slices by guides' feature, I always used the knife tool and the guides and cut everything up by hand. I'm not 100% what you're asking here, but it sounds like you want 'custom pieces' cut from within the 'slices by guides' feature. I don't think that's possible (tho I may be wrong). Personally after saving the main pieces out, I'd reopen the file (or work from a duplicate) and then cut the specific 'extra' pieces I need.

I'm guessing you've saved out all the required slices, and now want to cut up some specific 'other areas'? And as using the knife tool will just create loads of unwanted slices, I would simply marquee out the area I need, cut and paste that into a new canvas then save it. (or you could re-slice an existing slice I suppose).

One thing you could do (if I understand the problem) is use the knife tool to cut up the slices that you want (real simple if you have the guides in place and turn on 'snap to guides'). Then use File>Save for Web. That will bring up a window where you can select the slices you want to save (Shift Select, Ctrl Select and all that for the chosen slices). There will be a dropdown at the bottom of the save menu when you're choosing the name (not the first menu when you click on the slices, but what pops up after that) and in the dropdown there should be an option for "Save only highlighted slices" or something like that. From there it will create a folder and in it it will have FileName_03, FileName04... etc. Rename those as you please, and you should be set. Also, if you don't want the lossiness got from save from web, just set it on jpg at 100% quality.

    I hope that helps.
