here is a painting i completed recently. its an oil on masonite, 24x36. i havent painted on masonite in a while, and i forgot how slick it is! anyway, i laid out my ref in ps, printed it, and painted it true to reference. hope you like...-c36

I wish I had anything more to say, but I'm a bit confused about the shadow going along the very bottom of the front persons ear.

*point's to second sentence* It's in oils. I think I'd agree about the shadow at his ear though, it's placed fine, but it seems too dark/too thick a line and I would have thought it would have carried on further under the chin (although I haven't seen the reference, so this might just be me). I really like the effect of the translucent arms though, that's very cool, and the folds in the clothing look amazing. Very nice work.

if the light is coming from the top left, the shadow would extend towards the bottom right....

Lovely. really like the way you composed this one and the colour relationships are nicely balanced. I love how your pieces like this suggest the force of a unifying lineage the graph artists are taking part in, that's what I get with a lot of your graph related pieces. great stuff. gotta check out some more of your oils!

That is a really great painting with a good feeling...

the only thing that really bothers me is the guy in shadows...
although It looks as though you softened his edges, to see him, and then see the blurred lines looks a little weird, at least in the photo you pasted...

the depth between those people is awesome..i didn't know that oils and arcrylic can be done transparently..seems more like pastel to me

michael see: thanks. its only oils, and there is no transparent application of paint here. everything is painted opaquely. its just faceted.

tedsuo: it wasnt that bad actually. its just being true to the ref...

sebsprek: yeah, i fucked up. its not that bad on the original. bad photo. but he is blurry. i wanted him like that...

woohee, this is great elkuruu :>
the only little thing that bugged me a bit is the (front) left guy's arm, which stops without any fading, as in the other elements of the painting. dunno what's best, because making a fade would connect the guy's shoulder to the red arm in the other plane, ... risky.

on the other hand, it would have done a better visual reading from left to right. no "cut". besides, the "visual connection" between both planes cannot be avoided. anyway ;>.. the thing is plain great. the area i prefer is the back dude, focused on his painting, so realistic and true.

thanks, senoir sparth! yeah, painting like this is really tricky. its hard to render properly, while bearing in mind transparency and composition. but thats the bitch of using photo reference sometimes. those arms were a nightmare
but i'm glad you like this one, all in all it was a fun challenge, and i'd like to continue the series eventually. oh- the guy in the far back isn't even a graffiti writer! thats my friend and fellow conceptual artist at shaba, n8, who is a rediculously good artist in his own right.

Nothing wrong with that ear shadow to my eye... Great painting! Wish i had it on my wall if even as a poster.

The only thing i have is that the big guy left upper corner seems to be disconnected from the rest of the piece a bit.

But it is a great impression of the streetlight-lit nightly world of thrills that is writing!
